- DirectorRoger DonaldsonStarsPierce BrosnanLuke BraceyOlga KurylenkoAn ex-C.I.A. operative is brought back in on a very personal mission and finds himself pitted against his former pupil in a deadly game involving high-level C.I.A. officials and the Russian President-elect.Weak script but good acting - semi-entertaining yet hollow movie (Dollar Store)
- DirectorJared HessStarsZach GalifianakisOwen WilsonKristen WiigA guard at an armored car company in the Southern U.S. organizes one of the biggest bank heists in American history. Based on the October 1997 Loomis Fargo robbery.Funny and dumb, worth a watch but maybe not the rewatch. (Dollar Store) *watched before 12/15 but listed so I don’t forget*
- DirectorIrwin WinklerStarsSamuel L. Jackson50 CentJessica BielThree soldiers struggle to readjust to life at home after returning home from a lengthy tour in Iraq.Watched 20 minutes. Could tell I wasn’t going to enjoy the “always a million miles away” storylines. (Dollar Store)
- DirectorRob W. KingStarsChristina RicciBrendan FletcherVicellous ShannonA couple moves to an isolated, modern, safe apartment building with CCTV after the wife has problems with nightmares. However, something's not quite right with the building.Ricci did a great job, Cusack did good, and I like the other main dude. Good concept, worked out a bit cliche though. Could have been deeper and more cohesive, but not a bad story overall. Creative shots and angles, but not a fan of the “subliminal messaging” moments and how they were edited. Lots of unnecessary flashing. (Dollar Store)
- DirectorDanny ProvenzanoStarsFrank VincentVincent PastoreLouis VanariaUsing the Internet and global satellites, a group of gangsters pull off the biggest bank heist in the Mafia's history.Found on a 10-in-1 $1 DVD and full of great stars. Well written and shot. Aside from a few funny moments that come with low budget movies (lines that could have been redone, silly blood effects), definitely worth a watch or two. (Dollar Store)
- DirectorMike JudgeStarsLuke WilsonMaya RudolphDax ShepardCorporal Joe Bauers, a decidedly average American, is selected for a top-secret hibernation program but is forgotten and left to awaken to a future so incredibly moronic that he's easily the most intelligent person alive.Classic. Watching to knock off Vudu purchases.
- DirectorAlexander PayneStarsMatt DamonChristoph WaltzHong ChauA social satire in which a man realizes he would have a better life if he were to shrink himself to five inches tall, allowing him to live in wealth and splendor.Funny and entertaining for a while, but begins to lose focus and roll on. Some characters were rough. Enjoyable cast though. (Dollar Store)
- DirectorBen FalconeStarsMelissa McCarthySusan SarandonKathy BatesAfter getting fired and finding out that her husband is cheating, Tammy hits the road with her profane, alcoholic grandmother.Entertaining moments and good performances, but lacked an overall focus. (Dollar Store)
- DirectorJosh GordonWill SpeckStarsJason BatemanOlivia MunnT.J. MillerWhen his uptight CEO sister threatens to shut down his branch, the branch manager throws an epic Christmas party in order to land a big client and save the day, but the party gets way out of hand...Saw about 80% of the movie on TV. Great cast, funny moments, but could have had a better story and been funnier. May have enjoyed it more if I saw the beginning, but even without the first 20 minutes, the story is pretty easy to decipher. Might have to rewatch to get a better idea of the movie though.
- DirectorAsh BrannonStarsLuke WilsonEddie IzzardJ.K. SimmonsWhen a radio falls from the sky into the hands of a wide-eyed Tibetan Mastiff, he leaves home to fulfill his dream of becoming a musician, setting into motion a series of completely unexpected events.Fun but generic kids movie. Good moments and soundtrack, but could have used more music in the story, as well as more importance to music. Felt a bit rushed and the voice acting could have used a few more takes. Featured a Radiohead song though! Not bad for a non-Disney/Nick/CN kids movie.
- DirectorGregory PlotkinStarsChris J. MurrayBrit ShawIvy GeorgeUsing a special camera that can see spirits, a family must protect their daughter from an evil entity with a sinister plan.Part of rewatching the series for the new one. Not my favorite in the series but probably the most action packed.
- DirectorWilliam EubankStarsEmily BaderRoland Buck IIIDan LippertMargot, a young woman who was abandoned by her mother as a baby, travels to a secluded Amish community with a documentary film crew seeking answers about her mother and extended family. After many delays, finally got to see this one. While the core elements are there (found footage, witchcraft connection), this one felt vastly different than the other five. I’m not sure that’s a good thing, but it isn’t necessarily bad. The highly HD cameras and slow motion shots felt out of place for a PA movie, but it’s probably realistic to how the footage quality would have changed from 2008. The story felt a little all over the place and shallow, disconnected from the series. The acting was solid though and I liked the characters. Not my favorite PA, but I will most likely revisit for the 2023 movie.
- DirectorTrey ParkerStarsTrey ParkerMatt StoneApril StewartWhat happened to the children who lived through the Pandemic? Stan, Kyle, Cartman, and Kenny survived, but will never be the same Post-COVID.Interesting twist on the characters. Fun to watch. Curious to see how the next part goes.
- DirectorTrey ParkerStarsTrey ParkerMatt StoneApril StewartIf Stan, Kyle and Cartman could just work together, they could go back in time to make sure Covid never happened and save Kenny's life. Traveling back to the past seems to be the easy answer until they meet Victor Chaos.I liked this one a tiny bit less than the last but they’re definitely an entertaining duo of episodes.
- DirectorNorman ApsteinStarsClint HowardJustin IsfeldAnndi McAfeePoor Gregory. After being released from the Wishing Well Sanatorium, all he wants to do is make the children happy. So Gregory reopens the old ice cream factory, and all the unappreciative brats are reprocessed into the flavor of the day.Watched as part of Joe Bob Ruins Christmas. Definitely a so-bad-it’s-good with a bunch of famous stars from the 80/90s. Fun but sloppy. Terrible 80s acting and editing. No logic. All in all, a good time and fun to watch with Joe Bob and his crew (devoid of a few awkward rants).
- CreatorValerie ArmstrongStarsAnnie MurphyRaymond LeeEric PetersenA look at the secret life of a sitcom wife.Watched season one - loved every episode! Such a dynamic, interesting show. Switches between King of Queens and Good Girls in an instant. Can’t wait for the second season to be released.
- DirectorPaul Thomas AndersonStarsAlana HaimCooper HoffmanSean PennThe story of Alana Kane and Gary Valentine growing up, running around and going through the treacherous navigation of first love in the San Fernando Valley, 1973.Beautiful cinematography, solid acting by everyone, stellar cast, incredible soundtrack and score (Johnny G!), but man, nothing really happens. The plot doesn’t feel super connected, doesn’t really have a decent flow, and it’s hard to care for the characters deeply. Many small ideas are dropped in as aesthetic (sexual harassment, racism) but don’t really add to the story outside of time and place. Fun to watch if you don’t expect deep emotional connection (purely from the construction of the story). Hoffman killed it for a first role, or really just in general, and I can’t wait to see the Haims in more movies.
- DirectorJason MooreStarsAmy PoehlerTina FeyMaya RudolphTwo sisters decide to throw one last house party before their parents sell their family home.Seen this one a few times. Pretty funny but generic movie. Enjoyable moments and awesome cast. Worth a watch every once in a while.
- DirectorAlfred HitchcockStarsJames StewartJohn DallFarley GrangerTwo men try to convince themselves they've committed the perfect murder by hosting a dinner party after strangling a former classmate to death.Incredible movie for the time. Acting was superb and set was impeccable. Fantastic cinematography, of course. All around great movie. Script was interesting and story flowed well. Could have used a bit more out of the story, but I blame that on the following 70-odd years of movies raising my expectations. Would watch again.
- DirectorRobert KurtzmanStarsTammy LaurenAndrew DivoffAngus ScrimmA demonic djinn attempts to grant its owner three wishes, which will allow him to summon his brethren to Earth.I don’t think I’m super into corn-syrupy creature features. I can appreciate the creativity and talent that goes into this film, from writing to acting to production, but the whole so-grotesque-you-can’t-look-away thing just doesn’t do it for me. The script is mostly solid with a bit of wonkiness and cheese, but I dug the story and the dialogue. I could do without things like one dude’s innards acting another dude or jaws ripping off, but I may even feel differently had I known walking in. Maybe I’ll need to rewatch, maybe I’m good.
- DirectorDavid KoeppStarsKevin BaconZachary David CopeKathryn ErbeAfter being hypnotized by his sister-in-law, a man begins seeing haunting visions of a girl's ghost and a mystery begins to unfold around him.Great plot, twists and turns. Fantastic acting from a great cast. Fun combination of thriller, mystery, and paranormal. A couple funny FX choices but overall, impressive movie from the turn of the millennium. Definitely rewatchable, even if to just look for clues.
- DirectorRichard KellyStarsJake GyllenhaalJena MaloneMary McDonnellAfter narrowly escaping a bizarre accident, a troubled teenager is plagued by visions of a man in a large rabbit suit who manipulates him to commit a series of crimes.Watched with Original DVD commentary for theatrical cut - Arrow Video release. 10/10 would do again.
- DirectorJames WanStarsVera FarmigaPatrick WilsonMadison WolfeEd and Lorraine Warren travel to North London to help a single mother raising four children alone in a house plagued by a supernatural spirit. So good. Probably my favorite of the trilogy.
- CreatorBo BurnhamDan LaganaStarsBo BurnhamTom WilsonKari ColemanAfter recently graduating high school, young Zach Stone opts out of a college to pursue the New American Dream: becoming famous with no talent whatsoever.Fantastic show. So bummed it was cancelled on the cliffhanger. Everyone is awesome and Bo kills it.
- DirectorJudd ApatowStarsSteve CarellCatherine KeenerPaul RuddGoaded by his buddies, a nerdy guy who's never "done the deed" only finds the pressure mounting when he meets a single mother.*listened to commentary of director’s cut*
- DirectorLana WachowskiLilly WachowskiStarsKeanu ReevesLaurence FishburneCarrie-Anne MossWhen a beautiful stranger leads computer hacker Neo to a forbidding underworld, he discovers the shocking truth--the life he knows is the elaborate deception of an evil cyber-intelligence.Rewatched for posterity
- DirectorLana WachowskiLilly WachowskiStarsKeanu ReevesLaurence FishburneCarrie-Anne MossFreedom fighters Neo, Trinity and Morpheus continue to lead the revolt against the Machine Army, unleashing their arsenal of extraordinary skills and weaponry against the systematic forces of repression and exploitation.Watched in bits and pieces - need to rewatch for analysis
- DirectorLana WachowskiLilly WachowskiStarsKeanu ReevesLaurence FishburneCarrie-Anne MossThe human city of Zion defends itself against the massive invasion of the machines as Neo fights to end the war at another front while also opposing the rogue Agent Smith.Watched about half before seeing the new Matrix in theaters
- DirectorLana WachowskiStarsKeanu ReevesCarrie-Anne MossYahya Abdul-Mateen IIReturn to a world of two realities: one, everyday life; the other, what lies behind it. To find out if his reality is a construct, to truly know himself, Mr. Anderson will have to choose to follow the white rabbit once more.Visually impressive, awesome cast, great callbacks but the story was lackluster and felt unnecessary. Also, I could do without the human bomb scene and the WB self-aware meta dialogue.
- DirectorDonald PetrieStarsSandra BullockMichael CaineBenjamin BrattAn F.B.I. Agent must go undercover in the Miss United States beauty pageant to prevent a group from bombing the event.Fun, lighthearted movie from the turn of the millennium. What is there to complain about?
- DirectorMichael HanekeStarsNaomi WattsTim RothMichael PittTwo psychopathic young men take a family hostage in their cabin.Last movie of 2021/first of 2022!
