If you were entertained by Russell Crowe in a cassock (and tootling around on a Lambretta) as Father Gabriele Amorth in last year's The Pope's Exorcist (and its $76.9 million box office off the back of an $18 million budget suggests plenty of you were), you'll no doubt be happy to hear that, according to producer Jeff Katz, Crowe will be battling demonic forces once more in a sequel.
Katz hit social media to announce that he'd gotten word of the sequel decision.
The Pope's Exorcist, which was directed by Julius Avery, finds Crowe as the real-life Italian priest who performed over 100,000 exorcisms for the Vatican. His latest mission took him on a tricky quest to help a possessed American boy and ends up uncovering a centuries-old conspiracy the Vatican has desperately tried to keep hidden.
The end of the film teed up sequels, but there's no word yet on what case the new movie will feature.

It’s been one year since Columbia Pictures / Screen Gems brought The Pope’s Exorcist (read our review Here), a supernatural thriller starring Russell Crowe, to theatres. Just two weeks after the film was released, our friends at Bloody Disgusting heard that a sequel was in development… but then things went quiet for a while. Crowe recently said that The Pope’s Exorcist was meant to kick off a trilogy, but the franchise’s progress had been slowed down by “a change of studio heads.” Things have apparently been worked out, though, because producer Jeff Katz of Worldwide Katz has just taken to social media to announce that the Pope’s Exorcist sequel has been given the greenlight!
Katz wrote, “Amorth Nation — I just got the call. It’S Officially Happening!!! “È un seguito, amici miei.”* Thank you to the amazing #ThePopesExorcist fans. You made this happen. Gas up your Lambretta – and get ready to ride.

Russell Crowe will save souls and ride Lambrettas again: "The Pope's Exorcist" is officially getting a sequel! Producer Jeff Katz took to Twitter on Wednesday evening to announce the news, posting, "Amorth Nation -- I just got the call...It's Officially Happening!!!" Katz followed up with an Italian phrase, "È un seguito, amici miei," which translates to "It's a sequel, my friends."
Never one to miss a chance to reference Crowe's character's motorized scooter (aren't we all?), Katz also wrote, "Thank you to the amazing #ThePopesExorcist fans. You made this happen. Gas up your Lambretta - and get ready to ride."
"The Pope's Exorcist" was both a slightly campy novelty and a surprise box office success when it dropped in April 2023, earning nearly $77 million worldwide against a comparatively slim budget of just $18 million (per Variety). The film blew past initial expectations -- the Variety article cited above guessed it would earn $10 million in U.

It may not seem like it but The Pope’s Exorcist was a hit at the box office last year, scaring up $76.9 million on a production budget of just $18 million. Academy Award winner Russell Crowe plays real-life exorcist Gabriele Amorth in the horror film, and it didn’t take long for Screen Gems to start thinking about a sequel. It seems it’s now actually happening.
The Pope’s Exorcist producer Jeff Katz took to Twitter last night to officially announce The Pope’s Exorcist 2, tweeting: “Amorth Nation — I just got the call. It’s officially happening!”
Katz added in last night’s tweet, “Thank you to the amazing #ThePopesExorcist fans. You made this happen. Gas up your Lambretta – and get ready to ride.”
According to a recent interview with Russell Crowe, a trilogy had originally been planned at Screen Gems, which could end up happening if the sequel performs as well as the first film.

It looks like Russell Crowe cannot leave behind the horror and mystery genres so soon. According to an official update from The Pope’s Exorcist’s producer, Jeff Katz, the 2023 film will receive a sequel soon. The horror film was a sleeper hit at the box office and, despite not being perfect, was liked by many.
Russell Crowe in The Pope’s Exorcist
The Pope’s Exorcist mostly earned mixed reviews from critics. However, it seems like the makers want to mimic the first film’s unexpected success. Earlier this year, Russell Crowe discussed the possibility of numerous follow-ups to the Julius Avery directorial. Jeff Katz has now confirmed that the universe will expand and follow the blueprint of the Planet of the Apes franchise for its title.

Chris Hemsworth had his career-defining role in 2011 with the MCU film Thor. Since then, the actor has been in multiple Marvel films, playing the God of Thunder. While the actor has also appeared in films such as Extraction and Snow White and the Huntsman, he became a worldwide star and one of the highest-paid actors with the Thor and Avengers films.
However, the fourth solo film in the franchise, Thor: Love and Thunder was not as well-received as its predecessors. Despite being a commercial success, the film was criticized for its shoddy VFX and writing. Hemsworth has now come out and taken responsibility for the film’s disappointing response.

Crowe plays an irascible army veteran opposite Liam Hemsworth’s rippling rookie field agent – but stunts overshadow suspense
We’re in the “try anything once” phase of Russell Crowe’s career, and he’s wearing it well. There’s a looseness to his latterday choice of role, with none of the stage-managed strategy of a hungry star with Oscars in their immediate eyeline; he’s done all that. He is in his improvisational free jazz phase, and it has given us Big Russ as a deranged road-rage maniac (Unhinged), the pope’s personal exorcist (The Pope’s Exorcist), and an appearance at WrestleMania 39 in character as said pope’s exorcist – to say nothing of the gigs and music videos. Actor Liam Hemsworth seems to be enjoying Crowe’s current energy too – having worked with him on Poker Face in 2022, he’s now re-teamed with him for Land of Bad, a...

Chris Hemsworth Reveals He Was Getting Frustrated With His MCU Role As He Opens Up On Thor: Love And Thunder’s Failure (Photo Credit – IMDb)
Chris Hemsworth is best known for playing Thor in the MCU, but his last solo movie, Thor: Love and Thunder, was a disaster and was faced with much criticism. It seems Hemsworth is still not over the film’s bad reception among the audience. He has also revealed being frustrated with his role as the God of Thunder. Keep scrolling for more.
The fourth installment in his solo franchise was released in 2022, bringing back Natalie Portman as Jane Foster; in addition, the MCU movie featured Christian Bale as Gorr the God Butcher and Russell Crowe as Zeus. Despite the ensemble cast members, the film failed to create the desired magic on screen. It was deemed too silly, and director Taika Waititi was slammed for excessive comic elements in the movie.

Thor: Love and Thunder had all the makings of the best Marvel Studios movie ever. Heavily inspired by Jason Aaron's Thor run and featuring both The Mighty Thor and Gorr the God Butcher, the sequel has a lot going for it.
Among those plus points was Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi. He'd successfully reinvented the God of Thunder in that 2017 blockbuster and fans were excited to see what came next. Unfortunately, the result was a movie which largely disappointed fans and let down both its new and returning characters.
Waititi, who was given perhaps too much freedom with Thor: Love and Thunder, has largely shrugged off the complaints. Chris Hemsworth, however, has addressed them head-on and doesn't shy away from acknowledging where the movie fell short.
Talking to Vanity Fair, the Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga star made it clear he still hasn't forgiven himself. "I got caught...

Why The Nice Guys Stopped at One Ryan Gosling believes that the chances for a sequel to The Nice Guys are slim, primarily because The Angry Birds Movie dramatically overshadowed the original comedy during its crucial opening weekend. We could have received another popular cinematic universe if Universal had been successful in kickstarting the Dark Universe. Sadly, 2017’s The Mummy, which was supposed to kickstart the universe involving the classic Universal monsters failed hard and the plans were scrapped. However, the failure was taken very positively by The Mummy director Alex Kurtzman.

Alex Kurtzman’s The Mummy, starring Tom Cruise, was a reboot of the classic Mummy franchise and featured a unique take. It was very different from the iconic Brendan Fraser movies most audiences were familiar with. The critics and the audiences bashed the film for several weak points. Despite being such a massive mess, Kurtzman stated that the film taught him a lot.

Few people in Hollywood have track records so diverse and unique as Ryan Gosling. It’s hard to think of a genre the actor hasn’t tackled yet, and whatever he does, he does it brilliantly. In 2016, Gosling joined forces with Russell Crowe to create the most iconic mismatched duo of private investigators, and the movie they made both revived the greatest cop bromances of all time and brought a fresh take to the table.
The Nice Guys Is an Underrated Hit

And yet, 2016’s The Nice Guys managed to surprise the audience and critics by adding their own spin to the classic.

Sony’s Spider-Man Universe had a good idea at the start: bring together key characters from the Spiderverse. But they forgot something important: Spider-Man himself. Despite a few movies already, the universe hasn’t been received well, except for the ‘Venom’ series, which is ending this October.
The latest disappointment was ‘Madame Web.’ This December, we’re getting a movie about one of Spider-Man’s top villains, Kraven the Hunter. Let’s see what we know about it.
The movie will be rated “R”
We don’t have much info on the movie’s plot, but the villain was supposed to be in it earlier. Execs held off because his stories are pretty intense for older viewers. The movie will likely be rated “R,” but we’re still unsure which story it’ll use. In August 2018, Richard Wenk was hired to write the script, following his success with ‘The Equalizer 2.

Sony’s Spider-Man Universe started with the best intentions, it was supposed to gather the most important supporting characters from the Spiderverse, but they forgot one important thing, Spider-Man himself.
Despite, by now, having several installments, the cinematic universe wasn’t all that well-received with the exception of the ‘Venom’ franchise, which is scheduled to get its last installment this October. The latest flop in the Ssu was ‘Madame Web,’ and this December we’re bound to get a story centered around one of the most notable Spider-Man villains, Kraven the Hunter, so let’s see what we know about the movie.

Sony Pictures is playing a little release date shuffle this Friday evening. Kraven the Hunter, the upcoming Spider-Man spin-off starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson, was originally slated to hit theaters on August 30th, but the film has now been pushed back to a December 13th release. Kraven the Hunter‘s fresh release date was already occupied by the new Karate Kid movie, which has now been bumped to May 30, 2025.
Kraven the Hunter has been delayed several times already, but hopefully, this will be the last move. Coming on the heels of the less-than-impressive debuts of Morbius and Madame Web, this Spider-Man spin-off has a lot to prove, but with an R-rated edge, it could just turn the tide. Director J.C. Chandor has previously described the movie as a tragedy. “Sony probably doesn’t want me to lead with this. but the story is a tragedy,” Chandor said last summer. “When the final credits roll on this film,...

Remember how Liam Neeson, at one point in his career, decided he would play only action heroes and how most of his recent characters were basically Bryan Mills from Taken in a different context? Well, it seems that another acting legend has chosen the same path, as Oscar-winner Russell Crowe is once again going to play an exorcist in the upcoming movie The Exorcism, which is set to be released on June 7, 2024. Now, the first official trailer for the movie has been released and we are going to show it to you below.
Now, our introduction was – in case you do not know – like this because Russel Crowe starred as an exorcist in the 2023 movie The Pope’s Exorcist, which – believe it or not – has absolutely no connection to The Exorcism. It seems that Crowe liked the previous role so he decided to reprise it but in a completely unrelated movie.

Before I ever saw William Friedkin's classic horror film "The Exorcist," my mother gleefully shared with me all of the horrific urban legends and unexplained mysteries that surrounded the film's production. She believed, as do countless others, that "The Exorcist" was one of many cursed films. The face of a possessed Regan MacNeil was terrifying, to be sure, but movie magic meant to scare me couldn't hold a candle to the inexplicable dread that had me convinced filmmakers daring to tell this story made them a target for actual evil. While I'm old enough now to know better than to believe in cursed films, it's still a fascinating rabbit hole to fall into. Hell, the horror movie streaming app Shudder even has a two-season documentary series called, you guessed it, "Cursed Films" discussing cinema's most controversial and conspiracy-surrounded film sets. Now, a new narrative horror film is dabbling in the world of cursed films,...

It may not have been his plan, but Russell Crowe is capitalizing on the return of the iconic “The Exorcist” franchise with separate standalone religious horror films “The Exorcism,” out June 7, and 2023’s “The Pope’s Exorcist.”
Crowe leads Joshua John Miller’s “The Exorcism” as an actor facing demons — maybe literal ones. Russell Crowe plays an actor playing an exorcist in the first look at his meta horror movie. Check out the The Exorcism trailer below…
Earlier this week, we noted with some surprise that Russell Crowe – who memorably played Father Gabriele Amorth in last year’s The Pope’s Exorcist – is set to don his priestly garb once again for a new horror movie.
At the time, The Exorcism (previously known as The Georgetown Project) was but a twinkle in the UK release calendar's eye. Despite being picked up for distribution by Vertigo in the US, a UK date was, and remains, somewhat elusive.
But that won’t stop us from getting unreasonably excited about the film’s first trailer. Check it out below…

Another year, another exorcism horror movie for Russell Crowe, who may have found a new go-to role in this stage of his career. But “The Exorcism” isn’t in the same vein as “The Pope’s Exorcist” from last year. "Can he be saved?" Vertical has revealed the official trailer for a horror thriller film titled The Exorcism, starring Russell Crowe - though it's not related to his other exorcism film The Pope's Exorcist from last year. This was originally titled The Georgetown Project, but they gave it this new title that will confuse people into thinking it's related to the classic The Exorcist. Though it sort of is. This film is made by Joshua John Miller, son of actor Jason Miller, who played the doomed Father Karras in the original Exorcist film. It's inspired by his experiences growing up knowing his dad played that role. A troubled actor begins to unravel while shooting a horror film. His estranged daughter wonders if he's slipping back into his past addictions or if there's something more sinister at play. Also starring Ryan Simpkins, Sam Worthington, Chloe Bailey, Adam Goldberg, Samantha Mathis, & David Hyde Pierce.
