John Travolta returned to television in a full-length role after nearly four decades in Ryan Murphy’s The People v. O. J. Simpson: American Crime Story. His last TV role was Vinnie Barbarino in Welcome Back, Kotter which lasted from 1975 to 1979. It was not an easy decision to take on the role but Travolta had a personal Hollywood ‘consulting’ team to advise him. This esteemed group of people included Steven Spielberg, Tom Hanks, Rita Hanks, Oprah Winfrey, and Michael Eisner.

The Saturday Night Fever actor played the real-life character Robert Shapiro, the famous American attorney who was part of O.J. Simpson’s dream defense team. The series received critical acclaim, however, Travolta’s performance had more polarized reactions.

Home viewing charts inspire deja vu: “Anyone but You,” a hit as a PVOD release, just debuted at Netflix. It knocked out Netflix’s expensive “Rebel Moon — Part Two: The Scargiver” from first place after two weeks, falling to #6.
Similarly, “Dune: Part Two” returned for its second week as #1 at both iTunes (ranking by transactions) and Fandango (which calculates by revenue).
The “Dune” sequel fended off challenges by two recent theatrical releases. Dev Patel’s “Monkey Man” (Universal), once intended as a Netflix original, is #2 at iTunes, third at Fandango. The family-oriented “Arthur the King” (Lionsgate) took second at Fandango, but only #6 at iTunes. Both initially are available to rent for 48 hours for $19.99.
Two new home-play debuts also made top 10 lists. “Cash Out” (Saban) is #9 at iTunes, renting at $6.99; starring John Travolta, the critically reviled title may be getting as much attention for its little-known director Ives. That’s...

It’s nothing fresh, no mind boggler, but it purely works on the entertainment factor. The John Travolta starrer Cash Out is tropey in every way, and it still manages to not be boring at any point. Long past his prime, Travolta plays Mason Goddard, a swindler with a skilled crew carrying out heists. When a simple bank robbery goes haywire, Mason and his group must find their way out of it.
Spoilers Ahead
What happens in the movie?
Mason and his girlfriend Amelia visit a private jet exhibition, and they don’t seem interested in the aircraft. Mr. Perez, the man who invited them, takes them to show his collection of luxury sports cars. Out of all the Porsches and Lamborghinis, Mason’s eyes shine when Perez shows his most prized possession, a rare Pagani. Mason’s crew was already present in the exhibition, and they took over the garage,...

If you’ve been wondering when a heist movie would wed traditional bank-robbing sequences with the current fixation on cryptocurrency, “Cash Out” is here to answer that question. And yet little about this John Travolta vehicle feels new or even timely, as the would-be thriller directed by Ives trades exclusively in shopworn tropes that by now are de rigueur for the genre. It is, as you might imagine, the story of one last job before our protagonist can finally hang it up for good — which is also how one imagines the role itself might have been pitched to Travolta.
The actor, who at this point is like a past-his-prime slugger dragging down his career batting average, brings a familiar name to “Cash Out” but none of the vibrancy we’ve seen from him in the past. He stars as Mason Goddard, whom we meet as he and his femme-fatale inamorata...

Earlier this month, as you’ve likely heard, John Travolta, Samuel L. Jackson, Uma Thurman, and Harvey Keitel reunited at the TCM Classic Film Festival to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Quentin Tarantino’s classic 1994 film “Pulp Fiction.” The filmmaker himself was sadly not in attendance, presumably busy with his reportedly endless writing on the now scrapped tenth and supposedly final film, “The Movie Critic.”
TCM Host Ben Mankiewicz interviewed the cast in a fascinating and enlightening conversation about the interconnected, talky gangster movie set in Los Angeles.

Cash Out opens with Mason Goddard and his crew stealing an outrageously expensive supercar as what he intends to be his last heist. Things don’t go as planned however as one of them, his girlfriend Amelia no less, is an undercover FBI agent. He barely escapes, and since he was already planning to retire, takes it one step further, he fakes his death and drops out of sight.
Three months later, his brother Shawn drops by trying to interest him in coming out of retirement for one more job. That doesn’t work, but when another member of the crew, Link calls he’s packing and on his way to the airport.
The next thing we know, Mason and Shawn are kidnapping a bank manager and the plan is in motion.

Very few filmmakers have achieved what Quentin Tarantino has in his years in the film industry. Despite his films often igniting controversies, the filmmaker and his unique works have always remained on top of Hollywood. The man knows how to push boundaries to the perfect limits to give cinema fanatics something raw every time and Pulp Fiction was no different.
Quentin Tarantino’s Pulp Fiction
Whether it was the use of violence or the taboo topic of drugs, Pulp Fiction was not without controversy. Still, the film made waves at the box office and found a place in the audience’s hearts, establishing itself as a classic. Even legendary actor Bruce Willis couldn’t help but fall head over heels for the script as he tried everything in his power to convince Quentin Tarantino to make him a part of the film.

In 2022, horror director Ti West released his homage to the slasher films of the past, simply titled X. The first of a trilogy, X was a critical and box office hit. Now the trilogy is about to be completed with a number of big-name actors, including Kevin Bacon – in a role that may create an in-universe paradox.
The Trilogy Kicks Off
2022's X takes place in 1979, and follows aspiring film producer Wayne Gilroy (Martin Henderson) and his much younger girlfriend Maxine (Mia Goth) who dreams of being a movie star. Along with a small crew, Gilroy rents out a building on a farm run by an elderly couple, not telling them that they are making a pornographic feature.
When elderly farmower Pearl (also played by Mia Goth) is drawn to Maxine's resemblance to her younger self, she is reminded of her lost youth and her own dreams of superstardom. Pearl...

Quentin Tarantino’s career was supposed to be concluded with an epic tenth film pretty soon, but now it’s all obscure again since the proclaimed director dashed it all to pieces canceling his upcoming movie.
Numerous speculations about the never-happening project’s creation process and its plot have never stopped circulating ever since the news broke, but one recently emerged detail will surely absorb everyone’s attention again — mostly due to the fact that it looks pretty much similar to what the MCU has been up to recently.
According to The Hollywood Reporter’s thorough investigation, Tarantino initially had at least four different ideas for his final film The Movie Critic — starting from the one that would focus on real-life movie critic Pauline Kael and then going to the expansion of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’s universe by telling the story of Cliff Booth portrayed by Brad Pitt.

Last week, Quentin Tarantino shocked the entertainment industry by ashcanning what was to have been his 10th film, “The Movie Critic.” The two-time Oscar-winner and highly influential auteur has yet to publicly comment on why this has all gone down, but the snoops at The Hollywood Reporter have dug up some details.
For starters, there’s ample evidence of Tarantino developing something and then pulling the plug in the past. You can look at the Wikipedia entry for the man’s unrealized projects and do a whole lot of imagining. It’s just rare that something gets this far along in the process—production was due to start at the end of this year, and a tax deal had already been set up with the California Film Commission. Although no distributor was officially on board, there was an understanding that Tarantino would work again with Sony, after the successful collaboration...

Photo credit: “Shutterstock.AI” The ’90s marked a major turning point for John Travolta. After his iconic Pulp Fiction comeback, he continued his winning streak with films like Face/Off. Directed by John Woo, this action-packed thriller was a recipe for deliciously twisted fun – especially with Travolta and Nicolas Cage swapping faces (and personalities!). Turns out, Travolta had just as much of a blast making the film as we do watching it. In an interview around the time of Face/Off’s release, he dished on his favorite scenes. When Quentin Tarantino makes a film, critics and audiences sit up and take notice. The quirky genius has carved a niche for himself with his unique brand of writing and storytelling that has won him a lot of acclaim. With his seamless blending of genres coupled with the ability to incorporate heavy dialogue with stylized entertainment, Tarantino has proved that there is no one like him in the industry.

It is apparently official: Quentin Tarantino's 10th and final film will not be "The Movie Critic." I say "apparently" because Tarantino briefly abandoned "The Hateful Eight" when the screenplay leaked to the internet, so maybe "The Movie Critic" still has a shot at going before a camera. But this feels final. It sounds like the concept got away from him, and he would've done the one thing he's talked about but avoided his entire career: he was going to make a sequel.
If The Hollywood Reporter has their story straight, "The Movie Critic" began life as a 1970s character study that was, in Tarantino's words, "based on a guy who really lived but was never really famous, and he used to write movie reviews for a porno rag" before expanding into a Hollywood yarn that involved Brad Pitt's Hollywood stuntman Cliff Booth from "Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood.

“I trust myself as a writer, I trust my process,” Quentin Tarantino declared onstage at the Adobe Max creative conference in 2016. “I never try to take anything out too soon. If I do, I realize it, and I put it back.” The acclaimed filmmaker added: “Not every film needs to be made. Not every movie should be made.”
And one of those movies that will not be made — as the world learned April 17 — is The Movie Critic, which was billed as Tarantino’s 10th and final film. The project initially focused on a writer working for a fictional porn magazine in the late 1970s and then it quietly evolved, amid a flurry of rewrites, into something resembling a spinoff of his ninth film, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood (with some potential meta twists, as we’ll explain later).

After several decades of long-standing and astonishingly successful career, John Travolta may be one of the most renowned actors in modern Hollywood, but back in the 1990s he could’ve lost it all after a bunch of significant box office flops.
Travolta’s reputation was quickly restored after he made an appearance in a cult movie of that decade — and he owes this incredible stroke of luck to his knowledge about finance management.
Travolta recently attended the TCM Classic Film Festival that also happened to be a celebration of the 30th anniversary of Tarantino’s iconic crime film Pulp Fiction. Being reunited with many of his Pulp Fiction colleagues like Uma Thurman, Samuel L. Jackson and Harvey Keitel, Travolta got yet another chance to reminisce about the movie and how he made his way to it.
As the actor recalled, he first met Quentin Tarantino in the latter’s apartment...

The John Woo identity switch film Face/Off is one of those 90s action movies that is memorable for good and bad reasons. With such a far-out concept and a beautiful excess of mayhem mixed with some fun drama, it’s easy to see why it made a mark the way it did, much more than Woo’s previous American effort, Broken Arrow, which was a more run-of-the-mill action movie. It’s also a film that seems like a one-and-done for the stars, no matter how much Paramount would want to franchise the title.

Quentin Tarantino’s Kill Bill films are considered cult classics and amongst the director’s most iconic works. While the two parts of the blood-soaked revenge drama were filmed together, they were released within 6 months of each other owing to the filmmaker’s reluctance to fit the narrative into one film.

Kill Bill: Volume 2 completed 20 years on April 16th, and was a fitting finale to the saga of The Bride played to perfection by Uma Thurman. In an interview a few years ago, Tarantino had a discussion with his lead star and spoke about the scenes he would have hypothetically cut off if he had decided to condense his story into just one film.
Quentin Tarantino Would Have Done Away With This Scene In His Cult Classic
Quentin Tarantino’s Kill Bill series worked magically thanks to the director’s decision to execute the revenge saga over two films.

It’s safe to say at this point that the most well-known role of actor Samuel L. Jackson’s long and storied career is as Nick Fury in the MCU. But while that will likely remain his most recognizable character of all time, Jackson credits his leading role in Quentin Tarantino’s 1994 feature Pulp Fiction as the one that proved the biggest game-changer for his career.
Cinephiles are already aware of the lasting effect Pulp Fiction has had on pop culture and filmmaking itself. The film was only the second full-length feature Tarantino had ever made and is widely considered his best work to date. A twisting tale that deftly weaves together violence and humor, Pulp Fiction traces the journey of several characters whose lives intersect in strange and unexpected ways across Los Angeles.

Quentin Tarantino is arguably one of the best directors currently working in Hollywood and has amassed critical and commercial success like none other. Actress Uma Thurman worked with Tarantino on three films, including his crime-drama Pulp Fiction, which is considered one of the director’s best works.

Face/Off 2 has been on the cards for years – and now it looks as though Nicolas Cage and John Travolta might be back.
Face/Off remains as one of the most high-concept action movies of the 1990s – no small feat considering this was an era when the genre was stuffed to the gills with interesting and inventive movies trying to reframe explosions, fisticuffs and gunfights in new and unique ways.
The first film (in which Nicolas Cage starred opposite John Travolta) remains a stone-cold action classic to this day with its bizarre ‘face switching’ premise only furthering to distinguish it from the deluge of other brilliant haction movies from the same era.
Over the last three or four years, talk has circulated that a sequel to Face/Off is on the cards. John Woo wouldn’t be returning and the film would instead be helmed by Adam Wingard. Wingard’s latest action blockbuster,...

The iconic action film of the ‘90s Face/Off is reportedly getting a sequel after almost three decades. The John Woo directorial starred Nicolas Cage and John Travolta as the leads, swapping faces to best each other in a cat-and-mouse chase. The film gained a cult following upon release and earned $245 million at the box office.
The sequel was announced back in 2021, with Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire director Adam Wingard taking over the reins as director. At the time it was reported that the film would recast the leads, despite taking off from where the first film ended. However, an insider reported that Travolta and Cage might return for the sequel.

When the 2024 TCM Classic Film Festival kicked off with a 30th anniversary screening of “Pulp Fiction” on Thursday night, Uma Thurman, Samuel L. Jackson, John Travolta, and Harvey Keitel reunited at the Tcl Chinese Theater to celebrate Quentin Tarantino’s seminal film. But while much of the discussion was devoted to praising Tarantino’s impact on the film industry, Thurman found time to have a laugh about the auteur’s lengthy production processes.
As all four actors recalled their first encounters with Tarantino when he was a young cinephile looking to prove himself in Hollywood, Thurman joked that “Pulp Fiction” was the last time Tarantino made an effort to keep his shoots on schedule and stick to his script.
“I think it was probably the last film Quentin made that was on schedule, where he actually tried to make his days and make his weeks,” Thurman said to laughter from the audience.

"Cheers" was the third highest-rated show on television when Shelley Long opted to quit the series at the end of its fifth season and pursue movie stardom. Though the show had long since settled into its ensemble groove, the on-again/off-again Sam Malone and Diane Chambers romance was the primary generator of water-cooler chatter. Moreover, the chemistry between Long and Ted Danson was the stuff of a series showrunner's dream. Their banter was worthy of Spencer Tracy and Katharine Hepburn. You don't just go out and find another Katharine Hepburn. Could "Cheers," brilliant and popular as it was, survive Long's departure, especially when fans had so much invested in Diane?
This was the conundrum faced by casting director Jeff Greenberg, who'd joined "Cheers" during Long's last season. He knew chasing the next Long was courting disaster, so he looked for an actor who could hold her own with Danson and...

Brian De Palma has often been called the second incarnation of Alfred Hitchcock in cinema. During his long career in Hollywood, he earned a reputation as one of the most provocative and versatile directors, equally at home directing gory horror films, brutal gangster dramas, and commercial hits.
His works became a reference not only for the creation of other movies and music videos, but also for musical careers; for example, Al Pacino's scream from Carlito's Way opened Jay-Z's second platinum album. And another of De Palma's cult films was the inspiration for Quentin Tarantino to create the best character in one of his most famous flicks, Pulp Fiction.
Tarantino’s Choice for The Role of Vincent Vega Was a Surprise to Many
Tarantino likes to choose actors at his own discretion and gets very upset when one of his chosen stars is not available to participate in his movies.

It may be hard to believe, but it has been 30 years since Pulp Fiction changed the landscape of cinema both independent and mainstream, taking home the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival, earning seven Oscar nods and going on to be one of the most heralded American films ever. To celebrate the occasion, some of the cast gathered for an event to help open this year’s TCM Classic Film Festival. One attendee was Vincent Vega himself, John Travolta, who remembered just what Pulp Fiction means to fans and himself.
Speaking with People on the red carpet, John Travolta commended the ongoing support of Pulp Fiction, suggesting it may not have landed in a different era. “It was epic and it evolved. The audiences made this movie what it was, and it wasn’t overnight. It took about a year of evolution. In those days, movies stayed in the theaters for a year.

Quentin Tarantino loves film. Few filmmakers can boast such a wide knowledge of movies, especially the B-films and grindhouse works that have inspired his greatest cinematic accomplishments. Tarantino also loves to talk about future projects. Put those two passions together and you get a guy who often teases movies he never actually ends up making.
Of course, it’s not always talk. Many of his best movies, including Kill Bill and Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood started as ideas that he blabbed about to anyone who would listen. But while that approach builds excitement, it also sets up fans for disappointment, such as when it was revealed that he had abandoned The Movie Critic, which for months was teased as the director’s 10th and final film.
Now including The Movie Critic, here are the most intriguing Tarantino projects that never got made.

Two years after he leapt to the forefront of the New Hollywood with The Godfather, and just months before he picked up the threads of that operatic crime saga with the magnificent sequel/prequel The Godfather Part II, Francis Ford Coppola released a quiet movie, one in which sound itself — and, more specifically, its surreptitious recording — is the narrative engine. Arriving during a particularly fertile era for American film, The Conversation was not a hit, but it is one of the period’s most subtle and shattering features. Half a century later, it resounds as hauntingly as ever, not merely as a cautionary tale but as a searing portrait of where we are now.

Martin Scorsese is ol’ blue-eyeing a big new project.
Variety reports that Scorsese is developing a Frank Sinatra biopic that will star Leonardo DiCaprio as the legendary crooner and Jennifer Lawrence as movie star Ava Gardner, Sinatra’s second wife. It would be the Oscar-winning director’s seventh film with DiCaprio and a reunion for DiCaprio and Lawrence, who worked together on the Best Picture-nominated dark comedy “Don’t Look Up.”
The 81-year-old filmmaker plans to tackle the Sinatra biopic after “Life of Jesus,” his independently financed religious film that is expected to go into production this year.
