Second in a series on broadcast network series renewals. This is a rarity — it’s still mid-April and ABC has already made decisions on all of its existing drama series.
The popular Nathan Fillion cop series The Rookie was the last to get word yesterday with a Season 7 renewal after some intense negotiations with the show’s new lead studio, Lionsgate, which acquired The Rookie producer eOne in December. It joins recently renewed Grey’s Anatomy, 9-1-1 and Will Trent, with The Good Doctor and Station 19 ending their runs.

When it comes to complex and challenging roles that require submitting oneself fully to the process, few actors can claim to have achieved what Tom Hanks has. The two-time Oscar winner is synonymous with some of the most iconic characters in films like Forrest Gump, Philadelphia, Cast Away, and many more that have showcased his prowess as a performer.

Hanks is also famously known for voicing the iconic cowboy toy, Woody, in Pixar’s animated masterpiece Toy Story, a franchise that pioneered a whole new revolution in Hollywood. Tim Allen is returning to ABC in a new comedy [*Tool man grunt*]. The Toy Story star is a veteran of the network, having starred in the popular 90s series Home Improvement for eight seasons, then coming back as the lead in another sitcom, Last Man Standing, which had a run of nine seasons. Last Man Standing had concluded its last season in 2021 and Allen will now be starring in a new show with the current working title Shifting Gears. The series will be written by Mike Scully, veteran writer of The Simpsons and Parks and Rec, along with his wife Julie Thacker Scully, who has also written for The Simpsons.
According to Deadline, Allen will also be joined by fellow sitcom vet Kat Dennings. Dennings would star in the CBS show Two Broke Girls, which would run for six seasons. Dennings is also on board as a producer for Shifting Gears. The plot according to Deadline says,...

It isn’t uncommon for sitcoms to get off on the wrong foot and eventually find their footing along the line, and similar was the case for Larry David’s Seinfeld. Often regarded as one of the greatest sitcoms of all time, during its original run on NBC, the sitcom didn’t begin on a high note, as its pilot was completely different from what the show would become later on.
Similar to some of NBC’s other hit shows, which were too off to a rough start, the reception to Seinfeld‘s pilot was brutal, but the network decided to stick with it nevertheless.

In great news for fans of Baby Yoda, Buzz and Woody, and Disney princesses (as well as Disney shareholders), Disney announced a blockbuster slate of films set for release in 2026.
First up, on May 22, 2026, is “The Mandalorian and Grogu,” a feature expansion of the Emmy Award-winning “The Mandalorian” series that introduced the world to Baby Yoda. No word yet on whether star Pedro Pascal will appear as the title character as he’s done in the streaming series. Jon Favreau is aboard as director.
Next, on June 19, 2026, is “Toy Story 5.” Little is also known about that project but Disney boss Bob Iger revealed in 2023 that another installment of the Oscar-winning franchise was en route.
Finally, on July 10, 2026, Disney will release a live-action version of “Moana” with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. This is not to be confused with an animated “Moana” sequel that Disney has set for release later this year.

It's astonishing to look back at John Lasseter's 1995 film "Toy Story" and regard how rudimentary it looks by today's standards. "Toy Story" was the first widely distributed CGI-animated feature film, and it felt overwhelmingly revolutionary at the time. Many were astonished at how expressive and fun CGI characters could be, and the film's success effectively ushered in a sea change in the animation world. In 2024, traditional cel animation is incredibly uncommon, and CGI is the naturally assumed standard.
CGI characters are designed to essentially be "puppets," in terms of their elasticity. Animators, at least at the time, were forced to stay on-model, only able to expand eyeballs or raise eyebrows so high. It wouldn't be for years that CG characters could mutate, squash, and stretch the way hand-drawn characters could. "Toy Story" benefitted from being about, well, toys. Patricia Richardson is shutting down those Home Improvement reunion rumors that have been circulating.
The longtime actress played Tim Allen‘s wife Jill on the series, which ran through the ’90s.
In recent months, Tim has alluded to the possibility of getting the cast together again for a new series. However, Patricia made it abundantly clear that this was not happening during a recent interview.

While on the Back to the Best podcast, the actress said that she was not remotely interested in playing Jill again. That is only one reason that a reboot wouldn’t happen, according to her.
“I mean, Zach is now a felon,” she said, alluding to Zachery Ty Bryan‘s many legal issues (via EW). “Taran [Noah Smith, who played Mark] hasn’t acted since he left the show; he’s not an actor anymore. And Jonathan [nm4763476 autoTaylor Thomas...

Patricia Richardson, who played Tim Allen’s onscreen wife Jill in the 1990s sitcom Home Improvement, is driving a nail into hopes of a reboot.
Richardson says she was never approached about a possible reunion — Allen has made comments about how the entire cast was on board — and adds she would not be interested.
“It was so weird, I would hear he was coming out publicly and saying this stuff about everyone was on board to do a Home Improvement reunion, but he never asked me and he never asked Jonathan [Taylor Thomas],” Richardson said on Thursday’s episode of the Back to the Best podcast.
“I called Jonathan one day and said, ‘Has he asked you about this? He went, ‘No.’ So why is he saying everyone is on board when he hasn’t talked to you or me?” Richardson said.

Home Improvement‘s Patricia Richardson is setting the record straight when it comes to chances of a revival series for the former ABC hit co-starring Tim Allen. In an appearance on the Back to the Best podcast, Richardson spoke candidly about her feelings toward the rumored revival that Allen had teased in November 2023. When asked if she’s return, Richardson stated plainly, “No.” “I think [that’s] the reason that Tim is now going on to do another show,” Richardson clarified, referring to Allen’s recent pilot order at ABC for Shifting Gears. Tim Allen’s former sitcom wife is calling Bs on the alleged Home Improvement revival.
Even before Fox pulled the plug on Last Man Standing in 2021, Allen spoke to TVLine about his desire to revive “The Tool Man” and check in with Tim Taylor’s family. “I just think it’s a marvelous idea,” he said at the time, adding: “All the actors think it’s a great idea.”

Uuuuahhhhhhhhh?!? Patricia Richardson is perplexed by Tim Allen’s recent claims about a Home Improvement reboot series. Richardson played Jill Taylor, the wife of Tim “The Toolman” Taylor in the 1990s sitcom, whose iron grip on the Taylor household helped keep the family unit from falling into disrepair. Expressing confusion about Allen’s claims that the entire cast is ready to reunite for a reboot series, Richardson confirmed she’s disinterested in reprising her iconic role.

Comedian and actor Tiffany Haddish had a wake-up call in a big way following a DUI arrest in 2023. This was the catalyst that helped her put the bottle down. So, how did she finally do it?
Tiffany Haddish Arrested For DUI In 2023
Tiffany Haddish’s most recent arrest occurred on November 24, 2023. The comedian allegedly fell asleep at the wheel while driving her Tesla. This incident happened in the early morning hours. She was charged with a DUI, but, the charge was reduced to a violation.
Tiffany Haddish then pleaded no contest later in February. Haddish said that she was “driving exhausted.” She had also attended a Thanksgiving event the evening before in West Hollywood. Haddish was previously arrested on suspicion of DUI in Georgia in 2022. So, she certainly has a history of this, and it was becoming a pattern.

M. Emmet Walsh is dead at the age of 88, his manager Sandy Joseph told IndieWire. The grizzled character actor appeared in Hollywood movies across 55 years and was one of the most recognizable “oh yeah, that guy!” performers in the industry. Even just by saying “grizzled character actor” you probably pictured him, even if you didn’t know his name.
Walsh had bit parts in “Midnight Cowboy,” “Little Big Man,” “Serpico,” “What’s Up, Doc?” and “The Gambler” at the start of his career. But it’s two films from the early 1980s that put him on the map and truly lodged him in the consciousness of cinephiles: “Blade Runner” and “Blood Simple.” In Ridley Scott’s film he played Capt. Bryant, who sends Harrison Ford’s Decker on his quest to terminate the escaped, murderous replicants. Or “retire” them, rather. That’s the kind of euphemism Walsh, in his rumpled way,...

As this slow broadcast network pilot season continues, ABC has ordered its second comedy pilot of the year: “Forgive and Forget,” a multi-camera comedy set to star Emmy-winning “Modern Family” alum Ty Burrell.
Burrell is also on board as an executive producer (through his Desert Whale Prods. shingle) on “Forgive and Forget,” while Eugene Garcia-Cross is writer/exec producer and Robin Shorr is on board as showrunner and exec producer. 20th Television is behind the project, which stars Burrell as Hank, a perennial “life of the party.” According to the logline, Hank gets an unexpected diagnosis, leading him to reconnect with his responsible adult son Ben.
ABC has also ordered the comedy pilot “Shifting Gears,” starring Tim Allen, for this season. That means both of the network’s comedy pilots are multi-camera sitcoms from 20th TV starring veteran ABC stars.

Ty Burrell is returning to ABC.
The two-time Emmy-winning Modern Family star has been tapped to star in Forgive and Forget, a multicamera comedy that has been ordered to pilot at the Disney-owned broadcast network.
From writer Eugene Garcia-Cross (The Santa Clauses, Peacock’s Punky Brewster), Forgive and Forget revolves around Hank (Burrell), the perennial life of the party, who, after an unexpected diagnosis, reconnects with his responsible adult son Ben in hopes of making new memories together.
Garcia-Cross, a 2018 graduate of NBC’s Writers on the Verge program, will also exec produce alongside Robin Shorr (Diary of a Future President, The Carmichael Show, Galavant, The Middle), who will serve as showrunner on the potential series. Burrell will also executive produce via his Desert Whale Productions banner. Forgive and Forget is produced by Disney’s 20th Television, the same studio that delivered mega-hit Modern Family.

ABC is piloting a new comedy starring and exec produced by Ty Burrell.
Deadline revealed that the multicamera project Forgive & Forget was in the works a year ago and the project, which comes from Punky Brewster duo Eugene Garcia-Cross and Robin Shorr, is now moving forward.
It is the latest pilot order for the Disney-owned network; Deadline revealed that Tim Allen was returning to ABC for a family comedy from Duncanville co-creators Mike Scully and Julie Thacker Sully. That marked the first pilot order of the season for ABC, which has instead been focusing on year-round development.
The show, which comes from 20th Television, follows perennial life of the party Hank (Burrell). After an unexpected diagnosis, Hank reconnects with his responsible adult son Ben in hopes of making new memories together.
Garcia-Cross will write with Shorr as showrunner. They will exec produce alongside Burrell via his Desert Whale Productions banner.

This time last year, Katja Cahill was taking a break pre-Oscars to visit “Banshees of Inisherin” breakout Jenny the Miniature Donkey — and her date (!!) — in a livestock trailer outside the Dolby.
“That was the best part of my Oscars, just getting to go hang out in the donkey trailer,” Cahill told IndieWire. “And donkeys have support donkeys too, so there were two donkeys there.” A frequent Oscars contributor, the costume designer crafted a glittering gold vest she described as a “blinged-out service animal jacket” for Jenny to wear on stage.
At the 96th Academy Awards, the self-professed animal lover once again brought her artistry to an attendee of a different species. Cahill dressed “Anatomy of a Fall” scene-stealer Messi the dog — who played Snoop for director Justine Triet’s Best Picture nominee and Best Original Screenplay winner (co-written with Arthur Harari) — in an oversized bow tie.

Messi the Dog, the Anatomy of a Fall star and awards season darling, did, in fact, make an appearance at the 2024 Oscars on Sunday.

The Academy Awards can be described in a variety of ways. From gripping dramas to hilarious comedies, Hollywood’s talents never fail to impress. And of course, it was unavoidable that Jimmy Kimmel, the host of the night, would open the 2024 ceremony without making light of a few Hollywood stars.

Hollywood’s cutest star made it to the 2024 Oscars after all. Messi, the adorable Border Collie who played Snoop in Anatomy of a Fall, was one of the stars sitting inside the Dolby Theatre during the Oscars ceremony on March 10. This marked the precious pup’s first Oscars ceremony. During Jimmy Kimmel’s Oscars monologue, the host gave Messi a shoutout. The camera panned to Messi, who was sitting quietly in the audience. “Not even 20 years ago, things weren’t going that great for Robert [Downey Jr.],” Kimmel began. “He played the villain in, correct me if I have this wrong, a movie where Tim Allen turns into a dog, right? And if you ever decide to remake that film, I have just the guy to play Tim Allen. That is, where is he, Messi, who even though he’s a dog, may have given the performance of the year in Anatomy of a Fall.

Last Man Standing and Home Improvement actor Tim Allen is gearing up to lead an all-new ABC comedy as the network has ordered a pilot for a multi-camera sitcom. The pilot tentatively titled Shifting Gears comes from Duncanville cocreators Mike Scully and Julie Thacker Sully, who executive produced Last Man Standing with Allen, Marty Adelstein, Becky Clements, Richard Baker, and Rick Messina, according to Deadline. Written by the Scullys, the series would center around Allen’s character Matt, described as a stubborn widower who owns a classic car shop. (Credit: Michael Becker/Fox) When Matt’s estranged daughter and her teenage kids move into his house, the real restoration will begin though. As mentioned above, this would be Allen’s latest team-up with the Scullys, after he led the comedy Last Man Standing for nine seasons. Last Man Standing first began in 2011, airing for six seasons on ABC until 2017 when it was ultimately canceled.

Tim Allen is one step closer to returning to ABC for a third time. The Alphabet net has given a pilot order to his latest sitcom, “Shifting Gears,” from 20th Television. Allen is on board to star and executive produce the multi-cam sitcom pilot — which is still a working title — which will also be written and executive produced by Mike Scully and Julie Thacker Scully.
In the project, Allen plays Matt, the “stubborn, widowed owner of a classic car restoration shop. When Matt’s estranged daughter and her teenage kids move into his house, the real restoration begins.”
Marty Adelstein, Becky Clements, Richard Baker and Rick Messina are the non-writing exec producers on the show.
“Shifting Gears” continues Allen’s long association with ABC and Disney, including the long-running hit (1991-1997) “Home Improvement.” Allen later starred on ABC’s “Last Man Standing,” which aired on the Alphabet web from 2011 to...

Tim Allen is returning to ABC.
The former Last Man Standing star will topline Shifting Gears, a multicamera comedy pilot for the Disney-backed broadcast network.
Shifting Gears revolves around Matt (Allen), a stubborn, widowed owner of a classic car restoration shop. When Matt’s estranged daughter and her teenage kids move into his house, the real restoration begins.
Mike and Julie Scully will co-write the script and exec produce the pilot alongside Allen and Last Man’s Marty Adelstein, Becky Clements, Richard Baker and Rick Messina.
Allen starred in Last Man Standing, which was originally developed for ABC and aired six of its nine seasons on the network before moving to Fox as part of a wonky ownership move. That series, like Shifting Gears, was produced by 20th Television. The studio was formerly owned by Fox, which licensed Last Man to ABC before Disney acquired the studio. Disney then licensed the show back to Fox,...

In a perfect world, Leap Day would entail some celebrations. Not to worry, though. This 30 Rock episode, starring an iconic Jim Carrey and Andie MacDowell cameo, has your back. Gear up for blue and yellow-themed festivities and, of course, a fictional movie that can give even Groundhog Day a run for its money! Be careful about getting your eyes poked, though.
The titular ninth episode of the sixth season of the Tina Fey-starring satirical sitcom series honors this fake holiday, concocting a blend of tropes seen in most films centered around such celebratory occasions.
Jim Carrey is a fictional character, Dave Williams, in the 30 Rock universe!
Leap Day is portrayed in the show’s mythology as an occurrence that calls for parties and celebrations. And like all great holidays, this one, too, puts the emphasis on a cultural mascot. Here, that is a gilled entity who sports...
