The Emmys has officially come and gone! This year, Succession turned out to be the big winners; with Kieran Culkin receiving Best Lead Actor and Sarah Snook and Niecy Nash (for Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story) winning in their respective acting categories as well. Hopefully, the careers of these actors continue to prosper for years to come. Winning an Emmy is supposed to be the pinnacle of an actor’s career. It’s supposed to open doors for bigger and better roles. Hell, even being nominated is a huge accolade that’s meant to propel someone’s career. Unfortunately, some nominations didn’t

Exclusive: This Sunday’s BAFTA TV Awards will “celebrate and remember the power of storytelling” at a “challenging” time for the industry, according to the new chair of the 77-year-old body.
Speaking exclusively to Deadline in the days leading up to the London ceremony, Sara Putt, who replaced Krishnendu Majumdar last year, said the awards will partly act as a tonic against the bad times, allowing “a community to come together, network, and be creative and supportive of each other.”
She acknowledged that 2023 was a “challenging year for many in the industry, whether freelancers or small indies,” coming a few months after BAFTA research found one third are considering leaving.
“We [at BAFTA] have many roles to play and it is important when times are hard to celebrate and remember the power of storytelling,” Putt said.

“Slow Horses” star Gary Oldman is the frontrunner to win Best Drama Actor at the upcoming Emmys. Oldman earned his first and only Oscar six years ago for his portrayal of World War II-era British prime minister Winston Churchill in “Darkest Hour.” That win was sandwiched between two other lead bids for “Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy” (2012) and “Mank” (2021). His sole Emmy nomination to date came in 2001 for his guest appearance in the two-part seventh season finale of “Friends”; he lost to Derek Jacobi (“Frasier”).
On Apple TV+’s “Slow Horses,” which is based on a series of novels by Mick Herron, Oldman plays Jackson Lamb, a particularly uncouth MI5 officer saddled with the responsibility of supervising a group of service rejects. This constitutes his very first regular role on a continuing series and his first live action TV performance at all in over two decades.

Chris Pine, Cynthia Erivo, Kieran Culkin, Sharon Stone and Rosie Perez celebrated Jeff Bridges’ seven-decade career at the 49th annual Chaplin Awards Gala in New York City on Monday night. But the Big Lebowski star almost chose a different career path.
During his acceptance speech for the Film at Lincoln Center‘s prestigious honor, the True Grit star shared that he originally “resisted” the idea of pursuing acting full-time for a few different reasons.
“It made me nervous, anxious, and I had other things I wanted to do,” he told the full auditorium at Alice Tully Hall. “I was very much into music. I loved ceramics, painting, and who wants to do what their parents do anyway?”
He recalled his father, actor Lloyd Bridges, explaining to him that he could do all of those things in this career path and use them all to some degree, which was one of the beauties of the job.

Jeff Bridges isn’t like other leading men. So goes the tale for over 50 years and 70 films. Where other actors of his generation—Robert De Niro, Jack Nicholson—brought volume and bravado, Bridges excelled in the shadows. A charming pretty boy turned weary and soulful iconoclast, his characters have never been showy. As The Dude in “The Big Lebowski” or Bad Blake in “Crazy Heart,” he’s moved into his roles and lived in them—“enough,” as one critic wrote as early as 1973, “to make a picture worth seeing.”
“I’m not sure what to make of all that,” Bridges told Variety at Film at Lincoln Center Monday evening, where the actor received the prestigious Chaplin Award. “It’s shocking for myself to think about how many films I’ve done,” he said. “Each film is like a little lifetime. I was a reluctant actor at first. It took many...

A Real Pain – written and directed by Jesse Eisenberg – proved to be one of the biggest hits of the Sundance Film Festival and has now been slated for release.
Coming out of the Sundance Film Festival this year, perhaps the most buzz was focused on Jesse Eisenberg's directorial folllow-up to 2022’s When You Finish Saving The World.
His second directorial outing is called A Real Pain and follows cousins who travel to their grandmother’s native Poland to partake in a Holocaust tour. Succession's Kieran Culkin stars alongside Eisenberg in the film which proved to be the first major acquisition of the festival when Searchlight stepped in to acquire the movie for $10m.
While it certainly doesn’t grab as many headlines as the woes faced by other Disney-owned subsidiaries, Searchlight has proved to be one of the House of Mouse’s successes of the past few years, exhibiting excellent...

These savvy pundits from major media outlets have chimed in with their first set of predictions, and they say the trophy will go to Gary Oldman (“Slow Horses”). A Real Pain, the new film starring Jesse Eisenberg and Kieran Culkin, has unveiled a new first-look image as well as announced its release date. In the Sundance review from our own Chris Bumbray, he glows about the film, saying, “A Real Pain is Jesse Eisenberg’s second film as a director and marks a substantial leap in quality since his pleasant – but minor – first effort, When You Finish Saving the World. With a tight running time, evocative location shooting, and two terrific performances at its heart, it’s no wonder this scored one of Sundance’s biggest deals, with Searchlight shelling out a cool $10 million for it.”
The plot synopsis reads,
“Mismatched cousins David (Jesse Eisenberg) and Benji (Kieran Culkin) reunite for a tour through Poland to honor their beloved grandmother. The adventure takes a turn when the odd-couple’s old tensions resurface against the backdrop of their family history.

The BAFTA TV Awards nominations are out for 2024 and, while Netflix is winning headlines after strong showings for The Crown and Black Mirror, there were some snubs and surprises.
Black Mirror’s strong showing is perhaps among the eyebrow-raisers after Charlie Brooker’s dystopian anthology series received mixed reviews and has not exactly been generating awards buzz.
The Netflix drama, now in its sixth season, garnered seven nominations for Demon 79, five of which were in the BAFTA Television Craft Awards, including best drama writer for Brooker and Bisha K. Ali.
The episode, in which a demon instructs a mild-mannered sales assistant to go on a killing spree, is up for best limited drama, while star Anjana Vasan is a surprise runner in the leading actress race.

Kieran Culkin and Pedro Pascal clearly used the 2024 award season to keep their bromance-turned-playful feud alive.
Now that the season is (finally!) over, The Hollywood Reporter is taking a closer look at the interactions between the pair, who competed for several awards for best male actor in a drama series for their roles in Succession and The Last of Us, respectively. And they took nearly every opportunity they could — between red carpet interviews, acceptance speeches and backstage interviews — to comment on their ongoing lighthearted rivalry.
While fans for them both have been eating up all their moments caught on camera, circulating them on social media, The Hollywood Reporter is looking back at when it all started.
Beginning with the Golden Globes in January, Culkin ignited their faux-feud when he said during his acceptance speech for best actor in a TV drama for Roman Roy, “Suck it, Pedro. Sorry. Mine!” The...

Seven years ago, Donald Glover won his first two Emmys, Best Comedy Actor and Best Comedy Directing for “Atlanta.” While he missed out on nominations last year for the final season of his FX series — he did receive a writing bid for “Swarm” — Glover is back in the hunt this cycle with “Mr. & Mrs. Smith.” Inspired by the Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie film of the same name, the spy series is competing in drama, which means Glover could become just the second man and third person to win lead Emmys in comedy and drama.

But this very acting career and all the star-studded roles he is finally able to land didn’t all come to him served in a silver plate, no. If anything, Pascal probably had to work harder than anyone and everyone else to build his career in the entertainment industry.

If this year's Screen Actors Guild Awards pointed to anything in terms of next month's Oscars, it's that Oppenheimer has, on the acting front at least, mostly cemented its path once more towards some shiny gold statuettes. Saturday night saw the film take Outstanding Performance By A Cast In Motion Picture, Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role for Cillian Murphy and Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role for Robert Downey Jr.
Following a year in which actors walked the picket line for a better contract with studios, there was even more impetus to celebrate, the show switching from its former Stateside cable home to Netflix's live offerings, where there were no commercials and a more liberal swearing policy. Billie Eilish signed "superfan" Melissa McCarthy's head. The casts of Breaking Bad, Modern Family and leads from The Devil Wears Prada and...

Pedro Pascal was taken aback when he was announced the winner of Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Drama Series during this year’s SAG Awards. Even though Pascal entered this award season as one of the favorites following his performance in HBO’s The Last of Us, the actor failed to bag a win on most occasions until 2024’s SAG Awards.
While delivering an emotional speech after the win, the actor hilariously dropped an F-bomb out of nowhere, as the actor later revealed that he was too drunk to remember anything he said.
