The film Priscilla, starring Jacob Elordi and Cailee Spaeny, shares Priscilla Presley’s version of life with Elvis Presley. The film depicts the good and bad parts of Priscilla’s 14 years with the King of Rock and Roll. While participating in a movie that closely mirrors someone’s life is one thing, sitting next to the person as the film plays in front of you is another. In a new interview, Elordi recalls his uncomfortable experience watching Priscilla beside the film’s namesake, saying it felt “invasive.”
Jacob Elordi explains why watching ‘Priscilla’ with Priscilla Presley was surreal
The feature film Priscilla is based on Priscilla Presley’s 1985 book, Elvis and Me. Priscilla shared her story of the events that led her to meet, marry, and ultimately divorce the King of Rock and Roll.
Jacob Elordi, who plays Elvis Presley in Priscilla, revealed that watching the finished film beside its namesake unsettled him.

"I hear innocence, and I hear evil. Sometimes... evil walks away." Uncork'd has revealed the trailer for a film called Walden, a revenge thriller written & directed by Mick Davis. This is getting a limited theatrical release in November before heading to VOD to watch. Walden Dean, an unassuming court stenographer in a small southern town, he discovers he is dying. So he decides to exact revenge on criminals who escaped their prosecution. The poster art for this has a "Dexter" vibe, which is probably what they're aiming for anyway. The "scales of justice" in blood is amusing, too. Starring Emile Hirsch as the titular Walden, with Shane West, Kelli Garner, Tania Raymonde, Steve Coulter, & David Keith. While this has a good concept, the footage looks like a made-for-tv Saturday night special presentation. Not much to worth watching here. // Continue Reading ›...

When someone says “There can be only one” what immediately pops into your head? For just about everyone it will be the movie Highlander. That’s how ingrained into pop culture the franchise has become. It’s impressive considering that the original film was actually a massive flop. Yep, the first film died at the box office and seemed destined to fall into obscurity. But just like the immortals in the film, it would rise from the dead and live on. The path to the first film wasn’t without its own pitfalls and near-death experiences. Let’s find out what happened to the 1986 film Highlander here on Wtf Happened To This Movie.

Beware! Spoilers for the work of Stephen King abound.
Stephen King has always been a self-referential writer. In addition to his poignant memoir On Writing and a multitude of forwards and afterwards in his Uncle Steve voice, the Master of Horror tends to inject his fiction with characters that bear a striking resemblance to his own persona. Equating writing with therapy, he often seems to be working through issues that underlie his novels and one can often pick out themes and seasons of life peeking through the windows of his work.
Before hitting the bestseller list, King was a young husband and father struggling to make ends meet and the weight of supporting a family frequently appears in his early writing. The newest King adaptation to hit the big screen, Rob Savage’s The Boogeyman, reimagines a story from the author’s first collection Night Shift in which a surly...

Time can be a hell of a drug, especially when it comes to the projected image. There’s an inherent danger in revisiting a film we have fond memories of; is it as good as we recall? Conversely, can a film improve after an initial viewing, one that perhaps was initially dismissed with a shrug and a wave of the hand? Case in point: actor David Keith’s directorial debut, The Curse (1987), a film that inspired nothing in me beyond guffaws 30 years ago. But that was then; now it inspires a sense of awe, because if you’ve ever wondered what an American-flavored Lucio Fulci film would look like, clear a spot in your collection for the class clown of the Class of ’87.

Anyone remember the 1984 classic film Firestarter? If not, here’s a brief description. The plot concerns a young girl who develops pyrokinesis and the secret government agency known as The Shop which seeks to control her. The film was directed by Mark L. Lester, and stars David Keith, Drew Barrymore, Martin Sheen and George C. Scott. The girl’s father (Keith) also has special mind controlling powers except they give him nose bleeds when he uses them. The movie itself was not a hit in theaters at all. It cost $15 million to make and barely broke even. However, the movie’s

With the glut of Stephen King novels adapted into movies during the early-to-mid 1980s, it became all too easy for certain films to fall through the cracks. It was even easier, in fact, when so many of those movies were high-profile productions made by A-list directors like Stanley Kubrick, David Cronenberg, and John Carpenter. One can understand how a movie like Mark L. Lester’s Firestarter, an adaptation of King’s 1980 novel of the same name, wound up getting overlooked. I’m guilty of it myself, having seen the movie and promptly filed it with the other middle-of-the-pack Stephen King movies. Luckily, Scream Factory has a new Blu-ray that has me reconsidering my opinion and hopefully will allow other horror fans to rediscover a really cool film.

Directed by Mark L. Lester, the new Scream Factory Blu-ray release of Firestarter is hot stuff, indeed. Starring David Keith, George C. Scott, Martin Sheen, and Drew Barrymore in one of her first roles, Firestarter is a Stephen King adaptation of Andy and Charlie McGee, a father and daughter on the run from the "men in black" of The Shop. As part of a clinical trail, Andy (David Keith) developed psychic and telekinetic powers. He also met his future wife (Heather Locklear) in that group, and they had little Charlie (Barrymore), who inherited Andy's skills, but who is a thousand times more powerful --- and dangerous. The government goons at The Shop have killed tortured Vicky to death in search of Charlie, and as a...

2017 will see the 40th anniversary of the death of Elvis Presley, and it is presumably this milestone that Weinstein Television is aiming for with a high profile biopic of the legendary entertainer. Elvis will be groundbreaking, in that it will see the company partner with the Presley Estate, along with Priscilla Presley (widow of Elvis), Jerry Schilling (member of Presley’s entourage), Harvey Weinstein and David Glasser (also of The Weinstein Company) as executive producers.
The 8-10 episode event will be based on the book Elvis, by Dave Marsh – a comprehensive study of the life and times of the man who changed music and pop culture forever. But, it is the unprecedented access to the star’s Graceland property, his private journals, and his personal effects that will make this project truly unique. Evidently, this type of opportunity has never before been provided.

Stranger Things is the perfect summer binge watch - fun, suspenseful and beautifully shot, with heroes and heroines that make you say, "she looks like this person I know" - and then they're up against a super creepy monster. It's the kind of show that makes you feel sad when it's over (there are already rumblings about a second season). Kate Hudson called it "all kinds of awesome." Plus the music is cool. From the opening sequence, Stranger Things evokes the beloved '80s filmmaking of Steven Spielberg, George Lucas, Wes Craven, John Carpenter, Ridley Scott, John Hughes and others.

It's billed as a sequel to Cloverfield, but is 10 Cloverfield Lane all it seems? We take a look at the subject of unrelated sequels...
In an era where it's just about impossible to make a high-profile movie without at least something leaking onto the web, producer Jj Abrams seems to have pulled off the ultimate coup in recent months: he and his company Bad Robot have secretly created a follow-up, of sorts, to the 2008 hit monster movie, Cloverfield.
On the 15th January, a trailer landed for 10 Cloverfield Lane, a claustrophobic horror thriller that Abrams described in a statement to Collider as a "blood relative" of that earlier film directed by Matt Reeves.
The premise is this: Mary Elizabeth Winstead's character, Michelle, is injured in a car accident and wakes up in a bunker with 40-something survivalist, Howard (John Goodman).
Howard tells Michelle that some kind of...

For the first time ever, Donald Cammell’s obscure 1987 serial killer thriller White of the Eye is available on DVD and Blu-ray in the United States (the UK arm of Arrow Video brandished its own striking package of the title in early 2014). Director of only four features, including his iconic 1970 debut Performance (co-directed by Nicolas Roeg), Cammell’s quartet of features were all labors of love, the filmmaker undergoing significant set backs on each project up until his death following 1995’s Wild Side.
With seven to ten years in-between each outing, this feature marked the end of a decade long hiatus following 1977’s adaptation of the Dean Koontz novel Demon Seed starring Julie Christie. Adapting from an obscure novel by brothers Laurence and Andrew Klavan (a notable writer of mystery thrillers) writing under the pseudonym Margaret Tracy, Cammell’s wife and actress China Kong co-wrote the screenplay. The critical and commercial success of Marvel's Netflix show has given the character of Daredevil a new lease of life, with a confirmed second series, a co-lead spot in the upcoming super-team show The Defenders and a possibility that the character could one day make an appearance in the wider Marvel Cinematic Universe. With that in mind, it's time to re-appraise the character's first big-screen outing – writer-director Mark Steven Johnson's Daredevil, starring Ben Affleck. Is it really as bad as its reputation suggests?
Released in 2003 (the same year as Ang Lee's Hulk and Bryan Singer's X2, though it was first out of the gate), Daredevil took more than $102 million at the Us box office and just $76 million outside the Us, for a worldwide total of $179 million. Despite more than doubling its budget it was perceived as a flop, especially alongside the likes of Spider-Man and X-Men, whose successes...

I had the distinct pleasure of corresponding with Natalie Burn. Burn’s talented beyond measure and has had a well lived life thus far. Beginning as a dancer and studying at such prestigious schools as The Bolshoi Ballet in Moscow and The Royal Ballet School in London.
She then threw her hand into the acting game, and has worked alongside Sly Stallone himself in Expendables 3, and has recently made a film that deals with the dark side of organ donation, in addition to Awaken and Killer Mermaid (review). It’s pretty impressive not only because it has some noteworthy names in it, but it was also co-written by her as well. She even does her own stunt work. If it’s not apparent by now, she believes in a pretty broad skill set.

A review of this week's "Community" (available, as usual, on Yahoo Screen) coming up just as soon as I watch magicians bully jugglers... Though Jeff the student became Jeff the teacher last season, the show hasn't really done much with the idea, and I was glad to see so much of "Laws of Robotics and Party Rights" devoted to Jeff's class and his usual need to be the coolest guy in any room. Making his opponent be a convicted killer taking the class remotely via a telepresence robot(*) added an extra layer of absurdity to this type of story, but also an extra level of menace. The show made great use of the weird movements and sounds of the robot as it craned its neck up and down in hostile fashion, turning the whole story into a fun, strange mash-up of "Cape Fear" and "2001" (or insert your favorite prisoner revenge...

Tonight at 12:01 a.m. Pacific, "Community" will become the latest cultish show canceled by a traditional TV network to live again via a streaming service — and the first of its kind to migrate over to Yahoo Screen, which will be debuting the rest of this sixth season every Monday night/Tuesday morning at this time(*). (*) There are two episodes tonight, then one a week going forward. So long as I have advance screeners, as well as time in which to do it, I'll be running episode reviews about a half hour (or, tonight, hour) after the episodes go live on Yahoo, for those of you who are up at that time of night (or in a more favorable time zone) to watch it. This is the latest improbable behind-the-scenes development in a series that has seen more than its fair share, including the firing and later re-hiring of creator Dan Harmon,...

Firestarter lives on. TNT is saying, "Hey, forget that 2002 sequel Firestarter 2: Rekindled" by announcing today that it will forge ahead with its own follow-up entitled The Shop. "Firestarter" is a Stephen King novel that was adapted for the big screen in 1984 by Mark Lester and it starred Drew Barrymore and David Keith as a father and daughter on the run from "The Shop" which wanted to harness their otherwordly abilities (he could control minds and she was a pyrokinetic). This paved the way for the aforementioned sequel in 2002 on the Sci-Fi Channel (now SyFy).

Arrow Video are good at finding the cult movies that although sometimes obscure always deserve to be watched. White of the Eye is a release that fits into this criteria, for the most part it would be just another average serial killer movie until Donald Cammell adds some style to it. With a hint of mysticism and an artistic touch White of the Eye is a unique mystery that although flawed is well worth the experience.

To mark the release of White of the Eye on 31st March, we’ve been given 3 copies to give away on Blu-ray.
A serial killer is on the loose in and around the small community of Globe, Arizona, and housewife Joan White (Cathy Moriarty) gradually comes to suspect that her opera-loving hi-fi engineer husband Paul (David Keith) might know more than he’s letting on…
So far so familiar, but in the hands of British visionary Donald Cammell (who wrote and co-directed Performance with Nicolas Roeg), the film becomes a dazzling kaleidoscope of images and ideas, spanning everything from Apache folklore, desert landscapes and stylish murder set-pieces that recall Dario Argento to a painfully vivid dissection of the emotional fissures undermining a modern marriage. It’s all set to an equally eclectic score co-written by Pink Floyd’s Nick Mason.
Please note: This competition is open to UK residents only...

Director: Donald Cammell. Review: Adam Wing. Donald Cammell only made four movies, but his life off screen was far more eventful than the time he spent behind the camera. Cammell was born in Scotland, and wrote and co-directed his first feature, Performance, with Nicholas Roeg in 1968. Roeg got most of the credit for that film and achieved greater success as a result, but despite numerous attempts, Cammell didn't make another feature until Demon Seed in 1977. Shortly after his fourth film, 1995's Wild Side, Cammell committed suicide in Hollywood, the only place he had ever wanted to make movies. Furthermore, his wife claimed the wound was not immediately fatal and that he had asked for a mirror so that he could watch himself die. A claim that's been refuted by several sources since. You can see why the connection was made though, because he was certainly attracted to death, and his third film,...

Arrow Video is excited to announce the UK Dual Format Blu-ray + DVD and Steelbook release of the 1987 British thriller, White of the Eye, which will be making its worldwide Blu-ray debut, and UK DVD debut from 31st March 2014. Described by the distinguished critic David Thomson as “one of the great secret works in cinema”, White of the Eye is one of the most bizarre and unforgettable thrillers ever made. Arrow Video’s Francesco Simeoni said: "Donald Cammell was such an unfortunate filmmaker, side-lined by critics who thought Nicolas Roeg was the creative force behind Performance, projects which would never come to fruition, studio interference and personal problems, his life was arguably more famous than his films. White of the Eye is possibly his most problem free film, though even this film suffered cuts, which we have included, although sadly no sound could be found. Though the film was cut, Cammell never commented,...

A couple of weekends back, three films converged on my eyeballs. I watched the apparent uplifting love story, An Officer And A Gentleman. The Spielbergian family adventure Batteries Not Included. And I caught a bit of Disney's The Fox And The Hound for the first time in a decade or so.
Each of these films, and the others I'm about to discuss, has a reputation of being something warm, cuddly, friendly and easy. But is that the minds of the consensus playing tricks? Because the truth is that there are films that we tend to remember as being one thing, that turn out to be far, far darker. Some of that is down how the film was originally marketed.
