Currently on trial in France for decrying the sexual assault claims from actress Charlotte Lewis, Roman Polanski now finds himself facing a trial next year in the United States over allegations of raping a minor in 1973.
The Oscar winning director is set to face American justice starting on August 4, 2025, plaintiff’s lawyer Gloria Allred revealed in a press conference today.
With Jane Doe (previously identified under a shortened version of her name in 2017) sitting by her side Tuesday, Allred also stated that 90-year-old Polanski received papers in the case recently at his home in Paris from a “process server.” After that, a Los Angeles Superior Court judge assigned the date on March 8, the famed advocate attorney stated.
A longtime fugitive from American justice and almost certain not to appear in court in Los Angeles, Polanski sitting for a deposition in the case is still a bit of an unknown, Allred says.

Polanski has been a fugitive from prosecution in the United States since the 1970s.
The lawsuit was filed by an unidentified plaintiff last year in Los Angeles Superior Court, but it was not allowed to disclose Polanski as the defendant. Gloria Allred, who represents the woman, said that the court recently permitted her to file an amended complaint naming Polanski.

A Santa Monica judge has set an August 2025 trial date for a rape lawsuit against director Roman Polanski.
The plaintiff alleges that Polanski raped her in 1973, when she was underage, at his home in Benedict Canyon. According to her lawsuit, she had met him at a party months earlier. Polanski invited her to dinner at Le Restaurant on La Brea Avenue, gave her shots of tequila, and then drove her to his house, where she passed out on his bed, the suit states.
“Plaintiff remembers waking up in Defendant’s bed with him lying in the bed next to her,” the lawsuit states. “He told her that he wanted to have sex with her. Plaintiff, though groggy, told Defendant ‘No.’ She told him, ‘Please don’t do this.'”

Franco-Polish filmmaker Roman Polanski is on trial in Paris today (March 5) to face allegations that he defamed British actress Charlotte Lewis, who accused him of sexual abuse.
The 90-year-old director currently resides in Paris, but is not due to appear in court according to his lawyers. Lewis, who starred in the director’s 1986 film Pirates, claimed in May 2010 that Polanski had sexually assaulted her during an audition at his Paris home in 1983 when she was just 16 years old.
In December of 2019, Polanski refuted her accusations as an “odious lie” in an interview with Paris Match magazine and cited inconsistencies in Lewis’ account of the events.

Roman Polanski will be tried in Paris today over allegations that he defamed British actor Charlotte Lewis.
Lewis brought the claim against the 90-year-old filmmaker, claiming he defamed her by calling her sexual assault allegations against him a “heinous lie” in a 2019 interview with Paris Match magazine. Polanski is not due to appear in court.
In 2010, Lewis accused Polanski of sexually assaulting her “in the worst possible way” in 1983 when she was in Paris for a casting appointment, aged 16. She later appeared in Polanski’s 1986 film Pirates. Polanski denied the allegations in the 2019 Paris Match interview and is said to have referenced a quote attributed to Lewis from a 1999 interview with the now-defunct outlet News of the World, in which she allegedly remarked: “I wanted to be his mistress (…) I probably desired him more than he did me.”
Lewis disputed the quote’s accuracy in 2010 and subsequently filed the suit.

Roman Polanski will face trial in France on Tuesday over allegations that he defamed the British actress Charlotte Lewis after she accused him of having sexually assaulted her in the 1980s.
Polanski, who is still a fugitive from U.S. justice over a rape case involving a 13-year-old in 1977, faces multiple accusations relating to other alleged sexual assaults dating back decades, all of which he has denied.
In 2010, Lewis accused Polanski of having sexually assaulted her “in the worst possible way” in 1983 when she was 16 and in Paris for a casting. Lewis appeared in Polanski’s 1986 film Pirates. She said she had decided to speak out to counter suggestions from Polanski’s legal team that the 1977 case was an isolated incident.
Four other women have since come forward with claims Polanski abused them in the 1970s, three of them as minors. The 90-year-old director has denied all of the allegations.

A newly unsealed court transcript appears to support claims that the judge who oversaw Roman Polanski’s case broke promises related to the disgraced director’s sentencing, The Associated Press reports. Polanski admitted having sex with a 13-year-old in 1977.
The transcript comes from closed-door testimony given by former Deputy District Attorney Roger Gunson in 2010 about the conduct of the now-deceased Judge Laurence Rittenband. According to Gunson, Rittenband told both him and Polanski’s lawyer that the director would get a slightly longer sentence than he’d originally been promised. This,...

Charlotte Lewis‘ case is a bit of a sad one since apart from an accusation levied against Roman Polanski, the famed director that was accused of raping a teenager and then fled to France. Unfortunately for Lewis, she didn’t get whatever justice she was after and instead had her life ruined for the most part since the media and those that were defending Polanski managed to discredit and debunk her claims when it was found that she did an interview claiming she wanted to be Polanski’s mistress. That kind of evidence is a bit damning, but it was also the

Former German actress Renate Langer has issued an official statement accusing Roman Polanski of raping her when she was only 15 years old. The report was filed to the Swiss police and says the encounter took place at the director’s home in Gstaad, Switzerland in February 1972, The New York Times reports.
According to the newspaper, Langer said she never reported the 1972 rape to the police or brought up the encounter with friends and family because she did not want to upset her parents. The 61-year-old actress later confided in her boyfriend years later.
“My mother would have had a heart attack,” she told The Times. “I felt ashamed and embarrassed and lost and solo.”

A third woman has come forward to accuse embattled director Roman Polanski of having “sexually victimized” her when she was 16 years old. The new claims date back to 1973, when the alleged victim — going by the name “Robin M.” — was just a teenager. The woman made her accusations during a morning press conference, held at the Los Angeles office of lawyer Gloria Allred.
Robin M. did not take any questions during the press conference, and both she and Allred declined give further details on the alleged crime and how the young woman first met Polanski. In 2010, Allred also represented Charlotte Lewis, an actress who accused Polanski of sexually abusing her when she was 16 during the making of the film “Pirates.” Lewis did not file charges at the time.

'Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl': Johnny Depp as Capt. Jack Sparrow. 'Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl' review: Mostly an enjoyable romp (Oscar Movie Series) Pirate movies were a Hollywood staple for about three decades, from the mid-'20s (The Sea Hawk, The Black Pirate) to the mid-to-late '50s (Moonfleet, The Buccaneer), when the genre, by then mostly relegated to B films, began to die down. Sporadic resurrections in the '80s and '90s turned out to be critical and commercial bombs (Pirates, Cutthroat Island), something that didn't bode well for the Walt Disney Company's $140 million-budgeted film "adaptation" of one of their theme-park rides. But Neptune's mood has apparently improved with the arrival of the new century. He smiled – grinned would be a more appropriate word – on the Gore Verbinski-directed Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl,...

After the long slog "Once Upon A Time" took through a grim and colorless Neverland (sorry, Peter Pan, but you kind of creeped us out), the show's latest Big Bad has been a delicious and welcome change of direction. Played by Rebecca Mader (Charlotte Lewis on "Lost"), the Wicked Witch/Zelena has emerged as a villain we love to hate -- and more importantly, a villain who just might be a worthy adversary for Regina, the Evil Queen (Lana Parrilla). In real life, Mader couldn't be more charming. We talked about being green, going "toe-to-toe" with Parrilla, and why it's fun to play off of a dot instead of a monkey. You look great in green. It's really your color. Why, thank you. The make-up must be so helpful in creating this iconic character, but is it hard to get off? Between the hair and the costume and the hat and then the lighting,...

As originally conceived, The Golden Child was supposed to be a serious action drama about a Tibetan holy child kidnapped by evil forces who want to use a mystical dagger to sacrifice him to demonic spirits. It was supposed to star Mel Gibson and be directed by John Carpenter. For reasons unknown, Gibson passed on the project, and it went to Eddie Murphy. The script was then rewritten -- and mostly improvised -- as an action comedy, which was more suited to Eddie Murphy's style and built in audience. And thus Eddie Murphy became Chandler Jarrell, a detective who specializes in searching for missing children, and who is hired by a mysterious Tibetan woman because he is believed to be The Chosen One. It was an odd choice for Murphy, who truly was The Chosen One at that point in his career. He had just finished three incredibly successful films: 48 Hrs,...

Robert Harris is concerned that the media is out to get Roman Polanski – but his own argument doesn't add up
Robert Harris believes that a "media lynch mob is bent on destroying" Roman Polanski.
In a touching display of generosity to his friend and colleague, Harris describes Polanski as "fighting extradition to the United States after his 1977 conviction for unlawful sex with a minor," which is certainly a genteel way of noting that an admitted sex offender who drugged and assaulted a child continues to deny justice to his victim and the community by refusing to return to the United States and serve out the sentence for his crime. Harris is no doubt a very good friend to Polanski.
He also appears to be very adept at victim-blaming.
