Plot: based on acclaimed author Rebecca Godfrey’s book about the 1997 true story of fourteen-year-old Reena Virk who went to join friends at a party and never returned home. Through the eyes of Godfrey and a local police officer, the series takes us into the hidden world of the young girls accused of the murder — revealing startling truths about the unlikely killer.
Review: While crime exists worldwide, North America’s glut of true crime stories is centered on the United States. We often take for granted that our neighbors in the Great White North are more than America’s nice neighbors or denizens of the Fifty-First State. Canada is a massive country with its own good and bad, with crimes just as heinous as anything we see in America. While the events depicted in Under The Bridge are not as scary as serial killer tales, the story it retells is every bit as disturbing.

Deep into Hulu’s Under the Bridge, author Rebecca Godfrey (Riley Keough) defends the focus of her latest manuscript. “People can do horrible things, and that doesn’t make them inherently evil,” she insists. As she sees it, her book is simply challenging the reader to consider that an individual’s humanity is not defined by their worst deed.
It’s a big ask considering the subject in question has been charged with murder — but potentially a worthy one too, not least because the accused is just a teenager. Unfortunately, it’s also one Under the Bridge does not actually have the nerve to tackle head-on. Despite some moving performances (particularly from its young cast), the writing ultimately proves too vague and too muddled in its messaging to shed new light on much of anything.

I admit that Justified: City Primeval Season 1 Episode 8 leaves me with some intense feelings.
Mostly, I feel incredibly cheated by a revival that promised to carve out a new path for Raylan Givens -- one where his sensibilities as a father would temper his quick trigger, shaping his renegade spirit into an inspiring leader.
Instead, Detroit breaks him. Then, all the ghosts of the past return. And does everything that happens in Detroit even matter at the end of the day?
Seriously. Are we meant to care about Robinson, Bryl, and Downey? Do the Detroit Pd deserve to have their resources tied up investigating Downey?
If she was Clement's mole in the department, there was Nothing in the script to even hint at a connection between the two. That's not good gotcha writing; that's bad plot planning.
Instead, I offer this interpretation.

A storm rages. A young girl is kidnapped. Her mother (Jurnee Smollett) teams up with the mysterious woman next door (Allison Janney) to pursue the kidnapper – a journey that tests their limits and exposes shocking secrets from their pasts.
That's the logline for the latest Netflix movie that incorporates a talented cast in an action-thriller scenario.
Most of us would follow Janney anywhere, and Smollett is gaining a similar group of fans. So, does that make Lou a movie worth watching?
From the outside, it looks like Hannah (Smollett) and Lou (Janney) have little more in common than residing on the same plot of land.
Hannah is a caring mother, doting on her daughter Vee. Lou is a survivalist whose closest pal is a dog, which, admittedly, she dotes on as much as Hannah does Vee.
Both women have fled their previous lives, finding a fresh start far away from the daily grind.

Were you hoping “Sharp Objects” ended on the more warm and fuzzy note it appeared to be headed toward on Sunday’s finale? If so, then you’ll love this mashup video that combines the Amy Adams-led HBO limited series with the opening to the feel-good ’90s sitcom “Full House.”
Yeah, weird combo, we know, but whatever happened to predictability, amirite?
The fake credits (posted on YouTube by user DoingOK) are made up of real footage from the dark TV adaptation of Gillian Flynn’s debut novel about Camille Preaker (Adams), a journalist who goes home to her small town of Wind Gap, Missouri, to investigate the murders of two young girls. But, obviously, the video only includes the clips where people are happily smiling and the lighting is bright so that the “Full House” theme seems totally appropriate.

HBO’s “Sharp Objects” went out with a shocking twist and a series high Sunday, landing 1.8 million linear viewers for the drama’s 9 p.m. finale.
Adding in replays and some preliminary viewing on HBO Go and HBO Now platforms, and the Amy Adams-led limited series’ final episode audience grew by 800,000 viewers, upping the grand total to 2.6 million — another series high, per the pay-tv channel.
To add some context, the end of the eight-episode long TV adaptation of Flynn’s debut novel beat its own debut (1.5 million viewers) and came within 6 percent of the Season 1 closer of the premium cable network’s Emmy-winning drama “Big Little Lies,” which brought in 1.9 million eyeballs in April 2017.

[Editor’s Note: The following contains spoilers from the finale of HBO’s “Sharp Objects” in addition to the book on which it is based.]
“Sharp Objects” ended with a satisfyingly sick twist that paid off the depth of derangement that had been pulsing beneath the skin of Wind Gap through the whole miniseries. The Crellin family boasted two killers: Adora (Patricia Clarkson), who had Munchausen by Proxy’d her daughter Marian to death; and youngest daughter Amma (Eliza Scanlen), who was responsible for killing two of her peers out of jealousy.
For the most part, HBO’s adaptation was very faithful to Gillian Flynn’s novel, especially considering that she was one of the writers on the series. And yes, that meant that Adora and Amma were still a murderous mother and daughter in the book as well.
A few cosmetic differences were necessary or made more sense, such as adding in cell phones to make it feel more contemporary...

Spoiler Alert: This article contains details about the season finale of Sharp Objects.
HBO’s Sharp Objects finale Sunday night answered the lingering question: “Who killed all these young girls in Wind Gap?” Based on the creepiness and overall shadiness of this small town, anyone and everyone could have been responsible for these murders — including Amy Adams’ broken Camille Preaker. My money was on the Southern belle beast of a matriarch Adora (a delightfully viciousness and delusional Patricia Clarkson) or maybe even Camille’s flighty roller skating sister Amma (Eliza Scanlen) — and I was right. Well, partly right. But for those who read Gillian Flynn’s book, they knew the murderers all along.
Reaching the peak of the Jean-Marc Vallee desaturated and emotionally draining aesthetic, the episode titled “Milk”, written by Flynn and Marti Noxon, is the moment when Camille confronts momma Adora only to be a victim of her...

[Editor’s Note: The following review contains spoilers for “Sharp Objects” Episode 6, “Cherry.”]
With only two episodes left in the series, the “Sharp Objects” investigative trio of Camille Preaker (Amy Adams), Richard “Kansas City” Willis (Chris Messina), and Chief Bill Vickery (Matt Craven) hasn’t produced more than one or two bonafide suspects — and that’s just fine. It’s better, even, than the alternative. While last year’s sizzling HBO limited series bounced between potential killers as giddily as Reese Witherspoon dropped expletives, this year’s premium offering isn’t about the mystery; it’s about the women.
Or maybe, it’s about both.
Episode 6, “Cherry,” dwells on issues of identity and control. Camille listened to her former fellow cheerleaders talk about women being “made” to have children and unlocking a “part of your heart” that’s only accessible after giving birth. She heard her sister, Amma (Eliza Scanlen), explain how it’s easy to get boys to...

[Editor’s Note: The following review contains spoilers for “Sharp Objects” Episode 4, “Ripe.”]
“Sharp Objects” waited until its second episode to define its local flavor. When Camille (Amy Adams) runs into Detective Richard Willis in the local dive bar, the Kansas City cop asks the born-and-raised reporter to help him understand the small town culture.
“Educate me about Wind Gap,” Richard says. “Because, I’ll be honest with you, I can’t quite get a handle on it.” Camille takes a beat, but her summation is fast and pointed.
“If someone says ‘bless your heart’ what they really mean is ‘fuck you.'”
The scene continues, and Gillian Flynn’s well-chosen words dance through other characters and color in various backgrounds — not to mention distract from a valuable point about the killer — but it ends with those words. Camille jokingly calls Richard a “sick fuck” and he responds with Wind Gap’s slang for “fuck you.”

At the kickoff, the first season of the Sharp Objects TV show seems likely to be the only one. The HBO TV series appears to be more of the mini-series type of "limited event." but that was once the case with Big Little Lies, which ultimately got a season two renewal. While the pay-cable network doesn't relying on advertising rates, the Nielsen ratings give us a good idea of how popular the show is with subscribers. Is this a "one-and-done" drama, or is there more to come? Will Sharp Objects be cancelled or renewed for season two? Stay tuned. *7/26/18 update below.

“My demons are not remotely tackled. I just survive,” says Amy Adams in HBO‘s ominous preview for upcoming episodes of “Sharp Objects” (watch above). The eight-episode limited series premiered last Sunday, July 8, and it introduced the world — and the many demons — of investigative reporter Camille Preaker (Adams), who’s on a mission to track down a killer in her hometown. So what have we learned so far, and what’s to come?
In the premiere episode, titled “Vanish,” Camille reluctantly accepted an assignment from her editor in St. Louis: she would revisit the town of Wind Gap, where one girl was murdered and another has gone missing. Her sudden arrival upset her mother Adora (Patricia Clarkson), who doesn’t want Camille to stir up trouble in the community that might blow back on her.

HBO’s “Sharp Objects” landed 1.5 million viewers in the limited series’ Sunday debut. Adding in the first replay and some preliminary viewing on HBO Go and HBO Now platforms, and the Amy Adams vehicle’s premiere audience grew by 600,000 viewers, upping the grand total to 2.1 million viewers.
To add some context, that premiere sum marks the best start for an HBO original series since “Westworld” in 2016. It’s also 36 percent better than the kickoff to 2017’s “Big Little Lies.”
The limited series debut served as a lead-in for HBO’s freshman drama “Succession,” which hit a series high with 673,000 viewers just after 10 p.m. The first encore showing and early Go/Now numbers brought that total eyeballs count up to 888,000 viewers for the evening.

Entertainment One (eOne) is set to scour its film development slate to find the next Sharp Objects as the producer and distributor prepares for the launch of the Amy Adams-fronted drama on HBO.

HBO has released a new full trailer for their upcoming limited series Sharp Objects. The dark psychological thriller stars Amy Adams and it's based on the book by Gillian Flynn.
The story follows a reporter named Camille Preaker (Adams), who returns to her small hometown to cover the murders of two preteen girls. As she tries to "put together a psychological puzzle from her past, she finds herself identifying with the young victims a bit too closely."

The eight-episode series also stars Patricia Clarkson, Chris Messina, Eliza Scanlen, Elizabeth Perkins and Matt Craven. The series will premiere on HBO in July 2018.

In HBO’s “Sharp Objects,” something’s not right in the small town of Wind Gap, Missouri.
The drama stars Amy Adams with a Southern accent as Camille Preaker, a reporter who returns to her hometown to investigate a string of murders involving young girls. But as Camille dives deeper into the psychological puzzle, things start to hit a little too close to her own disturbed past.
To make matters worse, Camille isn’t greeted with a warm homecoming — her mother, played by Patricia Clarkson, tells her that the house isn’t “up to par for visitors” (even though she’s family), and her little sister tells her their mother warned her about Camille, saying she’s “dangerous.”

Amy Adams, HBO, Gillian Flynn, and Jean-Marc Vallée: “Sharp Objects,” the network’s latest limited series is about as close to a summer blockbuster as 2018 TV will get.
HBO has released a full official trailer for the series, adapted by Flynn (from her own novel) and Marti Noxon (who’s having a pretty significant week herself). “Sharp Objects” stars Adams as Camille Preaker, a journalist who in the wake of finishing treatment at a psychiatric facility becomes caught up in a child murder case. To make matters more complicated, the crimes happened in her Missouri hometown, where it seems like the potential murderer is far from the only person with secrets to hide.
This latest glimpse has the biggest look yet at Patricia Clarkson as Adora, Camille’s mom. (Something tells us that “The house is not up to par for visitors” is maybe understating things a bit.) In...

As she tries to "put together a psychological puzzle from her past, she finds herself identifying with the young victims a bit too closely."
HBO always tends to put out great quality shows and Sharp Objects looks like it's going to be a dark and fascinating crime thriller, which I enjoy. So, I'll definitely be checking this one out.
The eight-episode series also stars Patricia Clarkson, Chris Messina, Eliza Scanlen, Elizabeth Perkins and Matt Craven. The series will premiere on HBO in July 2018.
