Turns out Pacific Rim: Maelstrom wasn’t the title of the Pacific Rim sequel after all…
Some fresh titles have been announced for films that are being made – at least in part – with funds from Legendary Entertainment.
A new press release from the studio has thus confirmed the following. Godzilla 2, which isn’t yet in production, is now going to be called Godzilla: King Of Monsters.
Pacific Rim 2, that had been assumed to be going by the name of Pacific Rim: Maelstrom (the name that appearaed online, on the front of a copy of a screenplay), is actually going to be called Pacific Rim: Uprising.
And if you’re interested too, that Pokemon movie’s official title is going to be Pokemon’s Detective Pikachu.
No point registering the respective domain names, Legendary is bound to have got there already.
Of the three, only the Pacific Rim sequel is currently filming,...

While Hollywood’s summer kicks off this Friday with a certain superhero showdown, the first studio feature we’re genuinely excited for this season will arrive in two weeks. Shane Black‘s The Nice Guy marks his return to the world of crime comedy, his last foray coming over a decade ago with the excellent Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. Starring Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe, the 1970s-set tale follows tough guy Jackson Healy and private detective Holland March, who are working on a missing-person case.
Ahead of its release on May 20th, and even before its Cannes premiere on May 15th, Warner Bros. held the first screening last night at Austin’s Alamo Drafthouse Cinema. Complete with a post-screening Q&A featuring Gosling, Crowe, Black, and producer Joel Silver, we now have the first reactions. These are overwhelmingly positive, so it looks like Black has once again hit it out of the park.

Splice director Vincenzo Natali’s new supernatural tale Haunter was just picked up by IFC Midnight for distribution after showing at South By Southwest. Haunter is written by Brian King who also wrote Night Train and Cypher, and stars Abigail Breslin as a teenage girl who is forced to relive the day she died.
"It's not just King's deftly-layered and slyly contorted screenplay or Jon Joffin's frankly beautiful cinematography that makes Haunter such an interesting little 'throwback' thriller. Natali and editor Michael Doherty seem intent on playing games with their viewers, and only those who have a lot of experience with haunted house movies will be able to glean a few early clues," Scott Weinberg said in his review from SXSW.

I look forward to a new Vincenzo Natali movie like most movie geeks anticipate the next feature from Steven Spielberg or Martin Scorsese. Ever since I stumbled across his 1997 debut film Cube, which still stands up (despite its lesser sequels) as a very novel approach to cerebral horror or dark fantasy or violent sci-fi... I'm not exactly sure. From there he made Cypher (2002), Nothing (2003), and Splice (2009), all of which are A) cool, B) creepy, or C) a combination of cool and creepy.
So it was with much enthusiasm that I leapt into Mr. Natali's latest effort, the haunted house story known simply as Haunter.
Already I can hear what you're thinking: another haunted house movie? My response is a loud "yep!" because, hey, if we're going to get endless permutations on the sub-genre (including everything Paranormal Activity, Insidious, and Sinister), we may as well shine a light on the most creative ones.

Can you believe it has already been seven years since Land of the Dead was released? George Romero attended Canadian Cinema Editors’ screening of Land of the Dead earlier this week, and it included a Q&A session with George Romero and the film’s editor, Michael Doherty.

Chicago – It pains me to point out the flaws of “George A. Romero’s Survival of the Dead.” Two of the most influential movies in my entire life are “Night of the Living Dead” and “Dawn of the Dead” and I could write a book on the importance of one of the most essential horror directors of all time. But, despite a fantastic Blu-ray release, “Survival of the Dead” disappoints.
Blu-Ray Rating: 3.5/5.0
For one of the few times in Romero’s amazing career, it feels like he’s spinning his wheels. “Survival” is half-baked and poorly-constructed, a serious step down from “Diary of the Dead” and “Land of the Dead”. Despite a few well-made action scenes, the sixth “Dead” film feels more like the work of a director inspired by Romero than something made by the master himself. It’s a zombie version of what he does so...

On August 24th the next chapter in George A. Romero's epic undead franchise will be unleashed upon the home video audience, and we've got the scoop on exactly what to expect once this bad boy shambles its way home.
Like its predecessors, Romero's Survival of the Dead (reviews here and here) takes place in a desperate, nightmarish world where the dead walk the earth, relentlessly attacking the living. It is the story of Plum Island - a beautiful refuge whose isolation allows two powerful families to maintain a semblance of order in the wake of the zombie holocaust. But as the inhabitants slowly die off, the two clans become sharply divided: The O'Flynns believe that the undead must be destroyed without exception, while the Muldoons insist that afflicted loved ones be kept "alive" until a cure is found. The result is an escalating showdown with echoes of a classic...

If Frankenstein's monster represents man creating life without a woman and Dracula represents sleeping with a stranger, then the werewolf is no doubt the bestiality within man. We all have some form of a dark nature encoded in our genetic make-up, the beast within if you will. Even though Vampires seem to be all the rave nowadays, I was always a greater fan of the werewolf and find them sexier than those pale, angst ridden parasites. I can't really explain it and I'm sure my attraction to aggressive members of the opposite sex has something to do with it, but that's another story. In celebration of the epic Benicio Del Toro vehicle The Wolfman, which resurrects one of Universal Pictures' classic movie monsters, I took a look at a dozen of the sexiest werewolves in movies and TV. This is not a list about the best werewolf movies ever made,...

Land of the Dead Directed by George A. Romero Although the fourth installment in George A. Romero's influential zombie series may not have the overall impact of the groundbreaking Night of the Living Dead, 2004 entry Land of the Dead proves that after four nearly four decades, he's still got the undead touch. The horror maestro has come a long way since his seminal 1968 classic, and Land is a satisfyingly splatter feast of gore and new ideas. Witty, clever and action-packed, this time around Romero benefits from the backing of a major studio. Playing with bigger stars - Land is the first Dead picture with name actors - and a higher budget of about $15 million, the slick production values and larger scope allow the director to more fully express his violent visions. Romero has a gift for lacing carnage with social commentary, and here he creates a radical and rebellious...

Now that George A. Romero's Survival of the Dead is just a few short weeks away from premiering at film festivals in Venice, Toronto, and Austin, we expect more and more info will begin coming in, and today there's both a behind-the-scenes sneak peek courtesy of MySpace and a new still from Fangoria.
The MySpace video is accompanied by the following note from George himself and a slew of other new pics you can see here.
Hi guys,
Some of you have been asking about the title of my new film. I called it "Survival of the Dead" because it's about a group of people who escape to a place they think is safe - an island where they hope to survive the war between the living and the dead.
That's how the story begins. By the end, something happens that makes the word "survival" take on a whole new meaning.
