On the one hand, I respect anyone who can devise a formula that works for them and for an audience, and while I wasn't a huge fan of the film, the first "Horrible Bosses" seemed to connect with audiences three years ago. The appeal of that film, and one that seems like it's pretty smart in its universal appeal, is that we have all had bosses we hate at some point. Watching characters we like get one up on people we hate is something that seems enormously easy to enjoy. My problem with the first film was that it felt like it never really embraced its premise. It wasn't mean enough, and I guess I hoped we'd see them cut loose in "Horrible Bosses 2" and really go for the dark humor the first film promised but soft-pedaled. After all, they were adding to very game performers in the form...

The follow-up to the 2011 hit comedy Horrible Bosses reunites Jason Bateman, Charlie Day and Jason Sudeikis as everyone’s favorite working stiffs: Nick, Dale and Kurt.
Here’s a first look at the hilarious new trailer and poster for Horrible Bosses 2.
Jennifer Aniston and Oscar winner Jamie Foxx also reprise their Horrible Bosses starring roles, while Chris Pine (Star Trek) and Oscar winner Christoph Waltz (Django Unchained) star as new adversaries standing between the guys and their dreams of success.
Fed up with answering to higher-ups, Nick (Bateman), Dale (Day) and Kurt (Sudeikis) decide to become their own bosses by launching their own business in Horrible Bosses 2. But a slick investor soon pulls the rug out from under them. Outplayed and desperate, and with no legal recourse, the three would-be entrepreneurs hatch a misguided plan to kidnap the investor’s adult son and ransom him to regain control of their company.

Can Warner Bros. get lightning to strike twice for Horrible Bosses 2, a comedy sequel which catches audiences back up with Nick (Jason Bateman), Dale (Charlie Day) and Kurt (Jason Sudeikis) sometime after their somewhat successful scheme to knock off their higher-ups? If the first trailer for the movie, slated for release later this year, is any indication, the studio is banking more on audiences simply wanting to see more of Horrible Bosses‘ stacked cast than on a worthy plot.
Still, the results in this first preview are quite funny. In addition to Nick, Dale and Kurt, Horrible Bosses 2 features returns by randy dentist Julia Harris (Jennifer Aniston), murderous and now imprisoned former boss David Harkin (Kevin Spacey) and even faux-badass Dean “Motherfucker” Jones (Jamie Foxx). This time around, the main trio have started their own business but find themselves hoodwinked out of it by a slick investor (Christoph Waltz). Seeking revenge,...

Watch: Jason Bateman, Charlie Day & Jason Sudeikis Are Back In Debut Trailer For ‘Horrible Bosses 2'
"Horrible Bosses" was a fantastic concept. Get three strong comedians (Jason Bateman, Charlie Day, Jason Sudeikis), give them brutally bad bosses and cast them with some pretty big Hollywood names we don't often see playing these types of characters (Jennifer Aniston, Colin Farrell and Kevin Spacey—who we now know as the horrible politician from “House Of Cards,” but it had been a long time since he’d played someone so heartless and cruel). It had a solid director, Seth Gordon, the filmmaker behind the awesome documentary "The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters" (though the maybe not so awesome comedy "Four Christmases"). It had a script so good (by Michael Markowitz, John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein) that it attracted all this top talent (including Oscar-winner Jamie Foxx) and it was all set to be the best comedy we’d all seen in ages, right? But something went horribly awry,...

Mike Markowitz made it big on the writing front last year with the ridiculously funny Horrible Bosses and after a long career of writing various TV shows, Markowitz is joining the animated realm of cinema, as Deadline reports he has been hired to write the second animated feature for Tradition Studios.
Brad Lewis (Cars 2), the former Pixar Pdi/Dreamworks filmmaker-producer-actor, has been set to direct the feature, which is being kept under wraps while being in development at the studio’s San Francisco facility. However, we do know that this project will be the follow-up to the company’s first animated feature, The Legend of Tembo, which was directed by Aaron Blaise and Chuck Williams and penned by William Schneider.
Lewis most recently directed the underwhelming Cars 2, and he also produced Pixar’s Ratatouille and Dreamworks’ Antz. With their past work taken into account, I think that Markowitz...

Chicago – The summer of the R-rated comedy, which was So clearly inspired by the success of “The Hangover” and its sequel, was an interesting case of the law of diminishing returns. If you over-saturate a market, critics and viewers will turn away. By the time that “The Change-Up” and “30 Minutes or Less” thudded into theaters, we all remembered why they don’t make that many R-rated comedies in a year any more — most of them are dumb. Looking back on the trend, two films stand out as the R-rated comedies of Summer 2011 — the widely-beloved (and a bit overrated) “Bridesmaids” and Seth Gordon’s very-funny and consistently-entertaining “Horrible Bosses,” recently released on Blu-ray and DVD.
Blu-Ray Rating: 4.0/5.0
As is cleverly referenced within the film, “Horrible Bosses” is basically a riff on Alfred Hitchcock’s “Strangers on a Train” (or “Throw Momma From the Train” for younger viewers) in the world of modern workplace nightmares.

Work long enough in these United States and eventually you’ll have one: a horrible boss. Maybe they dangle a promotion in front of you with no intention of letting you have it or just treated you as subhuman, but no two horrible bosses are the same. To capitalize on this idea, Horrible Bosses mixes elements of Office Space and Strangers on a Train in a comedy with Jason Bateman, Charlie Day, and Jason Sudeikis suffering at the hands of Kevin Spacey, Jennifer Aniston, and Colin Farrell. For what seems like an incredibly simple concept, Director Seth Gordon and Writers Michael Markowitz and John Francis Daley & Jonathan Goldstein have managed to milk some pretty rich laughs even as the story runs along a very obvious track.

The Basics
Here’s the Official Synopsis:
For Nick (Jason Bateman), Kurt (Jason Sudeikis) and Dale (Charlie Day), the only thing that would make the daily grind more tolerable would be to grind their intolerable bosses into dust. Quitting is not an option, so, with the benefit of a few too many drinks and some dubious advice from a hustling ex-con, the three friends devise a convoluted and seemingly foolproof plan to rid themselves of their respective employers...permanently. There’s only one problem: even the best-laid plans are only as foolproof as the brains behind them.

Horrible Bosses centres on Nick (Jason Bateman), Kurt (Jason Sudeikis) and Dale (Charlie Day): three best friends who want nothing more than to be free of their intolerable bosses. When every permissible route has been attempted, the trio devise a dastardly and seemingly foolproof plan to rid themselves of their respective employers… permanently. But, as they soon find out, plans are easier devised than followed through.
While the premise starts off as a simplistic and mundane everyday comedy, it quickly (and welcomely) develops into something far more devilish and sinister. Screenwriters Michael Markowitz, John Francis Daley and Jonathan M. Goldstein may not bring a whole lot of plausibility or realism to the table, and you may find yourself scratching your head at the film’s outlandish ideas, but their zealous efforts go towards creating something bold, eccentric and ahead of the game.

Reviewing a comedy is one of the hardest things to do in the film journalism world. Unlike action movies or drama flicks, a comedy is completely dependent on one thing, and one thing only; did you laugh? It could be terribly directed and have a piss poor plot but, if you laughed enough, none of that would really matter anyways. So going into this review of Horrible Bosses, know this; I cannot understand your sense of humor. To do that, I imagine it would take weeks of long, hard psychoanalysis. But I do know mine. And for what it's worth, Horrible Bosses tickled my funny bone just right.
The Basics:
The lives of Nick, Dale, and Kurt would be perfect if it wasn't for one thing; their bosses. Nick deals with a psychotic sociopath who tortures him day and night just for the fun of it. Dale has to worry...

A stellar cast and no reluctance to go for an R-rating, Ron discovers Horrible Bosses has its fair share of laughs. But should it still have been better?
Nick (Jason Bateman), Dale (Charlie Day), and Kurt (Jason Sudeikis) are best friends. They're united by their love of hanging out, occasionally drinking too much, and complaining about their terrible bosses. Well, Nick and Dale hate their bosses, but Kurt's the only one who kind of likes his boss (played in a glorified cameo by Donald Sutherland). Then, his boss dies, and his boss' cokehead son takes over the family business with the intention to run it into the ground, wring it dry, and head down to Mexico with a gaggle of prostitutes and no shortage of drugs.
Meet the three bad bosses: Dave Harken, the cruel bastard (Kevin Spacey), Dr. Julia Harris, the sexually harassing basket case (Jennifer Aniston), and Bobby Pellitt,...

Director: Seth Gordon Writers: Michael Markowitz, John Francis Daley and Jonathan M. Goldstein Starring: Jason Bateman, Charlie Day and Jason Sudeikis It seems that manhood's no easy burden to bear in this modern world we live in. As Nick Hendricks (Jason Bateman) relates in an early voice-over in Horrible Bosses, his grandmother came to this country with only $20 to her name and after working hard her whole life died with not much more. The reason she didn't get ahead, Nick opines, is that she didn't kiss any ass and that's not a mistake that he's interested in repeating. So despite being disrespected, manipulated, and derided by his boss, Dave Harken (Kevin Spacey), Nick dutifully soldiers on in hopes of getting the big promotion that is being dangled enticingly just out of his reach. After cruelly being passed over for the promotion, Nick momentarily daydreams of taking physical revenge before settling...

It’s hard not to be proud of John Francis Daley in a way not dissimilar to how you would for your little brother. After all, he wasn’t just Lindsay Weir’s (Linda Cardellini) nerdy, sweet, but often-tortured little brother Sam on the beloved Freaks and Geeks. For fans of the criminally short-lived series, Daley’s Sam resembled the little brother we had or wished we had, because he perfectly encapsulated what it felt like to be a younger sibling.

Up until "Horrible Bosses" was released, "Bridesmaids" could easily claim the title of Funniest Movie of the Summer. But now that the film about three guys fed up with taking crap from their superiors has hit theaters, Kristen Wiig's girl-power comedy is getting a run for its money.
So will "Horrible Bosses" split your sides or leaving you walking out of the theater with a straight face? The critical response has been mostly positive, highlighting the chemistry of leads Charlie Day, Jason Bateman and Jason Sudeikis, and the hilarious acting prowess of secondary actors Kevin Spacey, Colin Farrell, Jennifer Aniston and Jamie Foxx. But some have also pointed out flaws in the script.

Horrible Bosses is going to invite comparisons to just about every other movie about rotten workplaces, but it acts best as a corollary to Office Space. Not because it's on the same level as Mike Judge's modern classic, but because both films are perfectly of their time, capturing a snapshot of the working world as it was or is. Judge's film was about a man oppressed by boredom and forced to work overtime to update his company's software for Y2K, a laughably empty threat even when the movie was made and a nice representation for the kind of banal paper-shuffling forced upon the protagonist. Yet the working men of Horrible Bosses aren't fighting apathy, but evil, and they're roped to their jobs because of the recession. Each one wants to escape a cruel manager, but they're all forced to realize that the costs are too high and that...

Chicago – There’s a theory that a film that should be judged based on how well it succeeds at what it attempts to do. If it’s a comedy, does it make you laugh? “Horrible Bosses” has some issues but it is an undeniably funny movie. With stellar comic timing from the entire ensemble and a dark streak of edgy humor with just enough wit to make it not seem cruel, this is one of the straight-up funniest movies of the year.

I'm getting a little sick of reading (and saying and writing) the phrase "the plot is just a clothesline to hang the gags on" in reviews of Hollywood comedies. Yes, laughs are the most important thing in a comedy, but if laughs are the only thing in a comedy, the film might be funny, but that's all it will ever be. Seth Gordon's "Horrible Bosses" represents a welcome return to plot-based comedy. This is not a movie in which the plot is just a clothesline to hang gags on. There's an honest-to-God story here, and the more twists and turns it takes the better and funnier "Horrible Bosses" gets.
That story is simple but the execution could be tricky. Three working stiffs -- corporate drone Nick (Jason Bateman), dental hygienist Dale (Charlie Day), and manager of a small chemical company Kurt (Jason Sudekis) -- realize over one of their...

2011 has been somewhat of a stale year for good movies from my perspective, but Horrible Bosses is starting off the second half of the year in the right direction. I went in having very high expectations, possibly the highest I’ve had for a movie this year and they were beyond exceeded. I can’t overstate how much I enjoyed this, and am hard pressed to think of a comedy I’ve enjoyed as much in recent years. The theatre I was at seemed to agree as well. Audible laughter throughout the film, sometimes louder than the film itself. I don’t think I went more than a minute or two without laughing.

A few years back, it was reported that one of Disney's upcoming animated films, an adaptation of Philip K. Dick's King of the Elves, had been shelved because Disney wasn't satisfied with their own CG movies. Well, Variety is now reporting that the project is back on again at Walt Disney Animation for a late 2013 release. But the big reason it's back is because the script is getting an overhaul by Michael Markowitz, a TV writer credited as one of the screenwriters of Horrible Bosses, hence the timing on this news since that hits theaters this week. Chris Williams, co-director and writer of Bolt, will also be "shepherding" the project. Philip K. Dick's King of the Elves short story is a fantasy about an average man living in the Mississippi Delta, whose reluctant actions to help a desperate band of elves leads them to name him their new king.

The work of cult author Philip K. Dick has seen mini-resurgence in Hollywood of late. The Adjustment Bureau (an adaptation of one of his short stories) was on the big screen a month or so back, and a remake of Total Recall (from another short, We Can Remember It for You Wholesale) is currently in production. Now word comes through from Variety of yet another story being primed for production with the unlikeliest of bedfellows.

"Horrible Bosses" scribe Michael Markowitz has been set to pen the latest draft of the script for "King of the Elves" at Walt Disney Animation Studios says Variety.
An adaptation of a Philip K. Dick short story, it follows a band of elves and one dwarf living in the Mississippi Delta who tap a human as their king after he saves them from an evil troll.
"Bolt" co-director Chris Williams is shepherding the project. The project was originally targeted for a release next year until Pixar took over Disney and sent the project back into development to flesh out the story.
'Elves' is now aiming for a late 2013 release following on from "Monsters University" opening that summer. John Lasseter and Chuck Williams are producing.

Walt Disney Animation Studios has breathed new life into King of the Elves and has hired Michael Markowitz (Horrible Bosses) to pen the newest version of the script. The film is an adaptation of a Philip K. Dick short story about "a band of elves and one dwarf living in the Mississippi Delta who tap a human as their king after he saves them from an evil troll." The project is being overseen by Chris Williams, co-director and writer of Bolt.

Some movies are born easily: they represent a whole bunch of factors like script, talent and money that happen to be in the same place at the same time. Others aren't born so easily, and lurch towards screens in fits and starts. Case in point: Disney's animated adaptation of a Philip K. Dick short story, King of the Elves, and Sony's attempt to make a new movie out of the '80s toy line and cartoon Masters of the Universe. Both films might be picking up steam again, however, after falling off the radar for a while. First up is King of the Elves, which was originally announced in 2008. A year ago it was looking like it might be bobbing dead in the water alongside Pixar's Newt, but then we got word [1] that Chris Williams (Bolt) might've taken over directing duties from original co-directors Aaron Blaise and Robert Walker (Brother Bear...

Back when Pixar chief John Lasseter swept into Hawaiian-shirted power at Walt Disney Animation Studios in 2006, a variety of animation projects, including Tangled and what would end up as Bolt were shoved back into development and re-worked before release. Another project in a similar situation is King of the Elves, which has been dragged out, dusted off and aimed at a late 2013 release.Elves adapts a Philip K Dick short story about a group of elves (obviously) and one dwarf living in the Mississippi Delta. They’re constantly at war with a nasty bunch of trolls, but when a down-on-his-luck human helps them one night, they crown him their king.Originally, the Brother Bear team of Aaron Blaise and Robert Walker were working on the concept, with the Mouse House looking to get it out by 2012. But Lasseter decided it needed more work, and had it briefly shelved. Now Horrible Bosses...

Jennifer Aniston looked hot in Tom Ford, Calvin Klein, and Michael Kors this morning on her way to do press for Horrible Bosses at NYC's Waldorf Astoria Hotel. Justin Theroux and Jennifer Aniston were together to visit Inside the Actors Studio last night, but today she had leading men Jason Sudeikis, Charlie Day, and Jason Bateman along with director Seth Gordon and screenwriter Michael Markowitz to chat about the dark comedy out on July 8. Jen joked about the less-than-ideal management and jobs from her past and confessed that she didn't really mind tackling the dirty-talking role of Julia Harris, a dentist who doesn't seem to respect the boundaries of workplace sexual harassment. Some of her funniest scenes are with Charlie, who didn't have to do much acting when it came to being shocked by Jen's character. They said: Do you have any particularly awful bosses that stick out in your mind?...

An All-star cast puts a comedy spin on workplace woes in upcoming movie Horrible Bosses, released in UK cinemas on July 22.
For Nick, Kurt and Dale, the only thing that would make the daily grind more tolerable would be to grind their intolerable managers into dust.
Quitting is not an option, so, with the benefit of a few-too-many drinks and some dubious advice from a hustling ex-con, the three friends devise a convoluted and seemingly foolproof plan to rid themselves of their respective employers...permanently.
There's only one problem: even the best-laid plans are only as foolproof as the brains behind them.
Jason Bateman (Couples Retreat), Charlie Day (Going the Distance) and Jason Sudeikis (Hall Pass) star as the three hapless workers, with Jennifer Aniston (He's Just Not That Into You), Colin Farrell (Crazy Heart) and two-time Oscar-winner Kevin Spacey (American Beauty, The Usual Suspects), as their unbearable bosses.

After MTV aired "Fright Night" and "The Art of Getting By" clips as parts of MTV "Sneak Peek Week", a fresh clip from "Horrible Bosses" gets its turn. In the preview, Charlie Day, Jason Bateman and Jason Sudeikis are on their stakeout. Being well-planned, things don't go as expected when a car suddenly gets out of a house, sending the trio into panic mode.
Earlier on the same day, a new trailer from the comedy film has been unveiled as well. Although most of the scenes look similar to the snippet previously released, this trailer still contains a new footage where Jennifer Aniston puts a man's hand on her breast.
"Horrible Bosses" revolves around Dale Arbus (Day), Nick Hendricks (Bateman) and Kurt Buckman (Sudeikis), three friends who conspire to kill their intolerable employers. Instead of quitting the job, they devise a convoluted and seemingly foolproof plan to rid themselves of their respective employers permanently.
