Earlier this year we brought you the very exciting news that, following the success of his standalone Predator film Prey, director Dan Trachtenberg would be making more movies centred around everyone's favourite extraterrestrial big game hunter. And now the first of those movies, Badlands, seems to have found its star. According to Deadline, Elle Fanning is in talks to join the Yautjans' latest hunt.
Plot details for the latest standalone Predator-verse joint are currently being kept under lock and key, beyond the obvious admission that Badlands will in fact feature a Predator. We do, however, know that Badlands has been co-written by Trachtenberg alongside his Prey story partner and scribe Patrick Aison, and that unlike its predecessor, this one's expected to be set in the future. While the future setting rules out Badlands being a direct follow-up to Trachtenberg's 1719-set, Amber Midthunder starring last film, it seems Prey 2 is still in the works too.

Elle Fanning is reportedly in talks to play the lead in Badlands, Dan Trachtenberg’s follow up to 2022’s well-received Predator film, Prey.
It looks like the next film in the Predator series may have found its lead, with reports suggesting that Elle Fanning is in negotiations to take the main role in Badlands, Dan Trachtenberg’s planned follow-up to Prey.
The story was broken by The Hollywood Reporter, which states that Fanning is in line to star, although as of yet we don’t know anything about the character she will play or the time or setting that the story takes place in (although rumours suggest that we might be headed into the future).
We do know that Dan Trachtenberg has already put out one terrific Predator film though, and hopes are high that he will repeat the trick again. A gripping entry in a series which was beginning to look somewhat shaky,...

Elle Fanning could be trading her bustle for survival gear after being in talks to join the cast of Dan Trachtenberg’s standalone Predator film Badlands. Deadline says Fanning is negotiating for the role in the highly anticipated film, which Trachtenberg is directing and co-writing with Patrick Aison.
Anticipation for Trachtenberg’s Prey follow-up is through the roof. Prey was a surprise smash hit of 2022, with Trachtenberg and star Amber Midthunder arguably delivering the best Predator movie since the 1987 classic starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. Plot details for Badlands remain a mystery, as do the film’s release plans. Prey premiered exclusively on Hulu to record numbers during the pandemic. However, 20th Century Studios is going hard in the paint with its extraterrestrial action flicks and the upcoming Alien: Romulus coming to theaters. It would not be surprising to see Badlands debuting on the silver screen alongside the Xenomorph threat.

Emmy nominee Elle Fanning is in talks to star in “Badlands,” a standalone movie from Dan Trachtenberg that expands the “Predator” universe.
Trachtenberg is set to direct the movie for 20th Century Studios from a script he co-wrote with Patrick Aison. “Badlands” comes following the success of Trachtenberg’s “Prey” — the “Predator” prequel which was a critical hit and broke records with its release on Hulu. The 2022 film was nominated for five Primetime Emmys, winning one for sound editing; “Prey 2” is in early development, with its star Amber Midthunder potentially returning. “Badlands” was announced in February, with the film expected to begin production later this year. Plot details are being kept under wraps.

When Logan came out in 2017, James Mangold had to age up Hugh Jackman to play an old man Wolverine. Seven years later, Jackman breaks his rule of returning to a character for a special case, but he would only be older. The Aussie had occupied the character since the genesis of the modern run of superhero movies at the turn of the millennium. Deadpool & Wolverine is a welcomed return for Jackman to the X-Men world, and it amazingly still makes sense despite the fandom already saying goodbye to him as the character years ago.
However, playing an intensely feral character for 24 years has made this last go much more difficult for Jackman. Especially with his older age. Deadline reports on an interview People Magazine had with Deadpool & Wolverine stars, Jackman and Ryan Reynolds. Jackman admits, “When I came back to it, it was really fun and I was thrilled.

There were many reasons why The Walt Disney Company merged with 21st Century Fox, with the rights to the Fantastic Four and X-Men franchises a small, yet crucial part of the $71.3 billion deal.
Marvel Studios will release The Fantastic Four reboot next year and recently found a writer for its take on the X-Men. While the quality of Fox's Marvel movies fell off a cliff with the likes of Dark Phoenix and The New Mutants, the studio also produced more than a few critical and commercial hits.
Fox had plenty of bold ideas for the Marvel characters it held the rights to before Marvel Studios pulled the plug on them. In this feature, we're revisiting the most intriguing, exciting, and sometimes awful-sounding projects which, in another timeline, you may have watched in a theater by now.

When George Lucas sold Lucasfilm to Disney in 2012 for more than $4 billion, it marked a major turning point in the movie industry. But, as Lucas himself says, some game-changing transitions within the business were already in full swing.
In an interview with Brut (via Screen Rant), George Lucas said that selling Lucasfilm all came down to the rise of streaming. “Streaming is really powerful, and it’s great, it’s really upped the movie business because the theatrical movie business… we could see the problems, and it was not good. So everybody was looking to save it, but nobody knew streaming would. And that’s when Netflix took off, and at that point, I said, ‘I don’t know what this is gonna be, there’s gonna be a giant transition in the business, I don’t know that much about it,’ and I sold the company, and I retired.

The cape was once the kingmaker. But the movie stars at the top of studios’ most-wanted lists today have largely avoided cinematic universes. Instead of being pulled up to the A-list with a call from Marvel or DC (like earlier breakouts Chris Evans, Gal Gadot and Jason Momoa), today’s top talents — according to THR’s survey of executives, managers and agents — were anointed by auteur directors. Austin Butler was tapped by Baz Luhrmann for Elvis, while Denis Villeneuve gave nearly a third of this list their first franchise movie with his Dune features.
Today’s young stars are also less formulaic than their predecessors of just a decade ago, whose indie debuts or tiny Oscar turns were quickly followed by IP-backed film series. They are more agnostic, too, moving easily among studio filmmaking, indie efforts and television. Unlike past eras, there’s also not a single “type” dominating the group.

From Whitney Houston to Elvis, there is no shortage of iconic singers who inspire sweeping films that dramatize their life stories. No matter the genre, cinematic features have captured the careers of the King of Rock and Roll Elvis Presley to country singer Jonny Cash. Most recently, Back to Black (2024) launched in theaters to capture the life and musical career of Amy Winehouse.
Still other films in the works will add to the canon of singer biography movies, like Timothée Chalamet’s upcoming portrayal of Bob Dylan in A Complete Unknown and nephew to Jaafar Jackson’s portrayal of his uncle the late Michael Jackson in Michael.

House Harkonnen in the world of Dune had an interesting look when contrasted with the rest of the races in the story. While Fremen, Atreidai, and Corrinos looked more or less human, there was something bizarre about the stark colors that defined the Harkonnen look, giving them an entirely alien feel and vibe.

We might finally be getting a new X-Men film as Michael Lesslie has been tapped to write a new film for Marvel.
It looks like the X-Men have come to stay in the MCU. After the disappointing Dark Phoenix, the X-Men have been laying low until we got quick teases in Ms. Marvel and The Marvels before Deadpool & Wolverine re-introduces everyone’s favourite grumpy mutant proper.
Deadline now reports that Marvel is planning a proper X-Men movie and Michael Lesslie is in negotiations to pen the script. Lesslie wrote last year’s Hunger Games: The Ballad Of Songbirds & Snakes, proving he can adapt someone else’s material. Lesslie has also penned the script for the new Now You See Me sequel which will be filming later this year.

One of the projects that made sure got the push to completion after the strikes had settled last year was Deadpool & Wolverine. Marvel made sure that their much-hyped sequel to the popular Deadpool franchise would make its release this summer. Hugh Jackman’s return to the role and donning the iconic yellow costume is enough of a reason that got fans excited, and Jackman himself couldn’t believe it took this long to get to wear the comic-inspired suit. “We almost did it in The Wolverine,” Jackman said. “But from the moment I put it on here, I was like, ‘How did we never do this?’ It looked so right, it felt so right. I was like, ‘That’s him.’ There are different sides of Wolverine we haven’t seen before in the movies. It was exciting for me.“

The first ‘Deadpool’ movie garnered massive attention for several reasons. It stood out from typical superhero films with its blend of action, comedy, and irreverence. The R-rating allowed for a mature and unrestricted portrayal, resonating well with adult audiences. Ryan Reynolds’ performance as Deadpool was widely praised, with many fans feeling he was born for the role.

While we'd expected James Gunn to cast a couple of big names as Superman's Ma and Pa Kent, the filmmaker instead chose to find two actors he felt embody the characters, Pruitt Taylor Vince and Neva Howell.
There's still no word on who, if anyone, will play Jor-El (Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 star Kurt Russell remains the rumoured fan favourite) but we're expecting Jonathan and Martha to be a huge part of Clark Kent's story. Here's hoping neither of them meets a tragic end, anyway!

Star Wars franchise has plenty of projects in the making, there’s two projects we are expecting this year, namely ‘Star Wars: The Acolyte’ and ‘Star Wars: Skeleton Crew.’ But besides shows, there are a couple of movies in the works as well, one of them being James Mangold’s Star Wars movie, and there’s little we know about it.
Recently, however, SFX Magazin reported that Mangold’s new movie will be titled “Star Wars: Jedi Prime.’ This wasn’t confirmed in an official sense but due to the credibility of the source it’s as good as confirmed.

James Mangold has had an interesting filmography over the years venturing in various genres and not typecasting himself to a certain type of filmmaker. Films like Girl Interrupted, Walk the Line, 3:10 to Yuma, Logan, and Ford v Ferrari proved that Mangold could competently handle various genres with great relatability and emotional heft.
James Mangold most recently directed Indiana Jones And The Dial Of Destiny
Mangold continued venturing into blockbuster studio filmmaking with 2023’s Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny which did not fare well. He is set to direct an upcoming Star Wars film and franchise producer Simon Emanuel seemingly revealed the film’s title. Star Wars: James Mangold's First Jedi Movie May Have Just Got A New Title With Ties To The Last Jedi
During last April's Star Wars Celebration in London, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny director James Mangold confirmed plans to head into a Galaxy Far, Far Away to tell the story of the First Jedi.
While it's been revealed that this Star Wars movie will be set roughly 25,000 years before the events of The Phantom Menace, few updates have been shared since. That's likely because the Logan director is currently busy shooting his Bob Dylan biopic.
Talking to SFX (via SFFGazette.com), Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and The Acolyte producer Simon Emanuel potentially revealed a new title for a movie we've been referring to as Dawn of the Jedi.
"James Mangold's Jedi Prime is set thousands and thousands of years before [the original trilogy]," he said, "and I'm really excited to see what happens there."
Jedi Prime?
Not only is that a pretty cool name, but it may have major implications for the movie itself.

[This story contains spoilers for Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes.]
Kevin Durand is all smiles right now. The Thunder Bay native doesn’t have the energy of an actor who’s nearly three decades into their career. If you didn’t know any better, his enthusiasm would lead you to believe that he’s a wide-eyed and bushy-tailed newcomer. With recent projects like Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, Abigail and the upcoming reboot of The Naked Gun, it’s understandable why Durand is savoring this moment that harks back to when Lost introduced his unforgiving mercenary Martin Keamy in season four (2008).
With Wes Ball’s Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes outperforming opening weekend box office expectations at $58.4 million, the long-term outlook for the sci-fi franchise is rather sunny right now, and despite his cliff-falling ending, Durand is not ruling out a return for his baddie, Proximus Caesar.
“Does Proximus crawl out of that ocean?...

Timothée Chalamet is making his Martin Scorsese cinematic debut in Scorseses “most difficult” project yet.
The Oscar-nominated actor leads the Bleu de Chanel men’s fragrance campaign for Chanel, with auteur Scorsese helming the latest commercial. Actress Havana Liu Rose co-stars in the sultry campaign that captures an obsessive young love story. The logline reads: “An actor’s conflict between celebrity and staying true to himself. A dialogue between Timothée Chalamet’s artistic sensibility and Martin Scorsese’s virtuosity.”
Chalamet told GQ in conversation with Scorsese that the ad is “not evocative of other commercials […] in a good way,” adding that he didn’t want audiences to “feel like it’s a product.”
Scorsese called helming a commercial an “intense” process. The “Killers of the Flower Moon” director, whose latest feature is three-and-a-half-hours long, explained why making a one-minute ad is even more challenging as a director.

Spoilers ahead for X-Men ’97.
Despite the raucous criticism that arose in the aftermath of Bryan Singerʼs atrocious fourth film (X-Men: Apocalypse) in his X-Men directorial biography, nothing seemed to go right in the mutant universe until Beau DeMayoʼs X-Men ʼ97.
Other than a few good scatterings here and there from Matthew Vaughn (X-Men: First Class) and James Mangold (The Wolverine), the Foxverse suffered and lagged under the curse of franchise sequels. Bryan Singerʼs exit after X2 took the life out of the X-Men universe until he appeared again in 2014 armed with the futuristic and brilliantly paced script of X-Men: Days of Future Past.

From co-directing the pulse-pounding John Wick and seamlessly transitioning to headlining major projects like Deadpool 2, David Leitch’s trajectory in the film is nothing short of remarkable. “On the set of The Adam Project, Ryan asked me if I would consider doing Deadpool 3,” Levy told Empire. “And I remember him saying, ‘I know you’re gonna say no, but I’m really going to try and talk you into it.’ And my response was, ‘I’m not gonna f***ing say no, are you kidding? It’s a hard and immediate yes, sir!’”
For Levy, the opportunity to direct Deadpool & Wolverine allowed him to make up for turning down The Wolverine a decade prior. “When we were making Real Steel, Hugh was looking to do The Wolverine, and he asked me if I wanted to do it,” Levy said. “And like a moron, I said, ‘No’. Because...

Nobody expected Hugh Jackman to reprise the role of Wolverine when he announced that he had hung up the claws after James Mangold's Logan, and the chances of a third Deadpool movie featuring Ryan Reynolds as the Merc With a Mouth seemed pretty slim when Disney acquired 20th Century Fox back in 2019.
Even so, both actors will return as their respective characters for this summer's Deadpool and Wolverine, and fans are wondering if we will see more of Wade and Wolvie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe down the line.
Empire put the question to Reynolds and Jackman during an interview for the latest issue of the magazine.
“I’m very nervous talking to you,” responded Reynolds. “I’ve never been so scared of what’s coming out of my mouth,” added Jackman.
It's obviously a jokey response that allows them to avoid a direct answer, but still, we'd say...

Streets have gangs. High schools have cliques. Some movie sets, apparently, have “camps” — some sort of a mix between the two. Elisabeth Moss recently revealed how the filming of her, Winona Ryder, and Angelina Jolie’s 1999 movie saw the actors split into two factions that were, surprisingly, based on the film’s script.
Tale of Two Camps: Ryder vs. Jolie
Recently, Elisabeth Moss sat down with the Let’s Talk Off Camera podcast and talked about the filming of 1999’s Girl, Interrupted. Moss was around 15 or 16 years old at the time, and she was excited to work with such huge stars like Winona Ryder and Angelina Jolie; she did not, however, anticipate that the two actresses’ star power would tear the cast into two cliques that wouldn’t vibe with each other.
“There were two kinds of camps. There was the Winona Ryder camp and the Angelina Jolie camp. [They existed] off camera,...

Hugh Jackman is set to return as Logan/ Wolverine in the upcoming MCU film Deadpool & Wolverine. The actor had already retired from playing the character after 2017’s Logan and a rich history dating back to the first X-Men. However, he couldn’t resist being in a film with Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool and thus came back to the role for the film.

He has collaborated with an array of star directors, and is currently at work on James Mangold’s Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown. He explains why US film-making is like the army, and British cinema is more like a factory job
Phedon Papamichael is sitting in a sparse hotel room in New York, huddled in a puffer jacket and glancing at the window as his fingers play with an unlit cigarette. He’s in town shooting A Complete Unknown, the highly anticipated Bob Dylan biopic starring Timothée Chalamet – and today, at least, he seems to be channelling its subject.
The film, he says, at the moment largely involves “travelling to every corner of New Jersey on a bus”. For Papamichael, king of the road movie, this is a very good thing.
