His days of chomping on cigars and calling people “bub” may be over, but Hugh Jackman still likes to reminisce about his time playing Wolverine in Fox’s X-Men universe. Case in point: the Australian actor shared a throwback Bts image on his Instagram account recently, giving a shout-out to two unsung members of the crew in the process.
The snap sees Jackman in costume, complete with Adamantium claws, on set of X-Men: The Last Stand. On either side of him are producer Ralph Winter and assistant director Lee Cleary. “Two unsung heroes of the early years,” Jackman wrote in his caption. “Ralph Winter and Lee Cleary.”

It’s fitting that Jackman should be reflecting on those people who made the X-Men franchise what it was, as that same franchise recently ended.

No, this is not going to be an attempt to make a film out of the classic Shane McGowan/Kirsty MacColl tune Fairytale of New York, at least not completely. But new indie romantic comedy Fairytale of New York is looking to hook up a troubled Irish type with a woman, and has snagged Kiefer Sutherland and Kate Bosworth to be the odd couple. We’re not sure we see the combo of Sutherland and Bosworth, but writer Jeff Murphy and director Lee Cleary obviously do. Cleary is gearing the movie up now, for a shoot that will take in Northern Ireland and New York.Sutherland’s playing a cynical yet charming Irish stand-up who travels to the Big Apple and makes a connection with an intriguing American woman (Bosworth). Cue, we assume, Sutherland spending the next few months with a dialect coach.“Fairytale of New York lets us observe...

Director Sxv'Leithan Essex and producer Lee Cleary ( The A-Team ) have granted Shock Till You Drop the first images from Growl , anticipated to hit theaters in 2011. "It's Fight Club versus werewolves," director Sxv'Leithan (pronounced "skuh-lee-than," for those scratchin' their heads over his name) tells us. "Two of my favorite things thrown in the ring to see what will come out alive. But what I love most about it is its completely character driven. I started writing and wanting to direct after seeing Aliens in theaters and how James Cameron made you care about the characters who would eventually be in peril. I love the characters in Growl like they are my family and it sucks to have to kill some of them off. But they do die some glorious deaths. I'm a...

In an historic win, Kathryn Bigelow and her tense Iraq War drama "The Hurt Locker" from Summit Entertainment copped the DGA Award for best-directed feature film Saturday.
The win drew cheers from a packed ballroom of the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza, where throughout the night it was clear many were pulling for Bigelow to deliver a dramatic victory for female filmmakers. The DGA feature film win was a first-ever by a woman.
"This is the most incredible moment of my life," Bigelow said.
Bigelow overcame competition including Fox-distributed "Avatar," directed by her ex-husband James Cameron; Lee Daniels and "Precious: Based on the Novel 'Push' by Sapphire" from Lionsgate; Jason Reitman and "Up in the Air" from Paramount; and Quentin Tarantino and "Inglourious Basterds" from the Weinstein Co.

Breaking through a long-standing color barrier, "Precious" director Lee Daniels is the first African-American to be nominated for the Directors Guild of America's best director award.
Kathryn Bigelow, director of "The Hurt Locker," also contributed to the diverse array of nominees announced Thursday, becoming just the seventh woman to be singled out in the DGA's feature film category.
The two will contend for the DGA Award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Feature Film with James Cameron, nominated for "Avatar"; Jason Reitman, who booked a ticket to the awards ceremony with"Up in the Air"; and Quentin Tarantino, who made the cut with "Inglourious Basterds."
The winner will be announced at the 62nd annual DGA Awards on Jan. 30 at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza in Century City.
"Precious: Based on the Novel 'Push" by Sapphire" has been something of a Cinderella story ever since it first debuted at the 2009 Sundance Film Festival.

Kathryn Bigelow ("The Hurt Locker"), James Cameron ("Avatar"), Lee Daniels ("Precious"), Jason Reitman ("Up in the Air"), and Quentin Tarantino ("Inglourious Basterds") will duke it out for the much coveted DGA Awards trophy.
Here are some fun facts:
*** Daniels is the first African-American to be nominated
*** Bigelow is the 7th female to be nominated
*** Cameron won the DGA trophy for 1997's "Titanic"

Now here's a movie after my own heart. Because aren't we overdue for a mixed martial arts movie featuring werewolves? The film-to-be is titled Growl. The very notion of a movie about a traveling pack of underground Mma fighting werewolves makes me want to cheer.
ShockTilYouDrop got the exclusive first word on Growl straight from the producers:
"A traveling underground fight club called 'The Brawlers' arrive at a derelict ghost town tucked away in the Colorado Rockies. They meet the town's only residents, the Maxilla family who want to buy on to the fight card. But the Maxilla family's true intentions for the Brawler crew is soon revealed in teeth and claws. Some will be hunted, some will be feed, and some will become part of the family...whether they like it or not."
The writer/director of Growl is a fellow with the unpronouncable name of Sxv'leithan Essex, a...

Whoa, I don't know what this is for, but it looks awesome. ShockTillYouDrop has debuted an early teaser poster for a new horror film called Growl that is being written and directed by Sxv'leithan Essex. If you don't know, Essex is a talented music video director and writer who is making his feature directing debut on this. I also found a second early sales poster on his MySpace which I've included below. In addition to Essex, producer Lee Cleary (X-Men: The Last Stand, Rise of the Silver Surfer, The A-Team) has jumped on-board to shepherd the project. Shooting will start in 2010 for an expected release in 2011. Check 'em out below! Here's the first synopsis for Growl: "A traveling underground fight club called The Brawlers arrive at a derelict ghost town tucked away in the Colorado Rockies. Sxv'leithan Essex, music video director and writer behind Bled , is sharpening his claws for Growl , a horror film he'll write and direct for Peerless Street Productions. He'll do so with some producing muscle at his back. Lee Cleary ( X-Men: The Last Stand , the upcoming The A-Team ) is on board to shepherd the project.
