The Directors Guild of America announced its new Women’s Steering Committee Squad Mentorship Program along with its first class of mentees. In the program, 10 mid-career directors are each paired with filmmakers that are well established in the field.
The Wsc Squad will last for six months. Mentors will not only discuss craft and artistic opportunities with their mentees, but will also provide guidance on the unique challenges involved with navigating the film industry as women. A second round of the Wsc Squad will begin in Jan. 2022.
“We started this program because the need for mentorship and community never goes away, even when you are working at very high levels in the industry. Women-identifying directors deal with particular situations and it was our goal to forge a sort of sisterhood of mid-career directors,” said Amber Sealey, co-chair of the program. “We purposely paired them with mentors who can offer advice...

The creators of Dylan Dog: Dead of Night, the long-delayed big screen version of the popular Italian comic, have attempted to translate its pulpy noir feel to the big screen. So they’ve got that going for them. And that’s about it. Kevin Munroe’s flick is otherwise a chore to sit through, a choppily edited festival of hastily conjoined pop cultural archetypes. With terrible acting, a narrative on autopilot and chaotic blurs passing for action scenes, it’s a direct-to-dvd caliber sojourn through the dregs of comic book adaptation. Brandon Routh, the fallen Superman, plays New Orleans-based ex-supernatural investigator Dylan Dog, who’s drawn back in the game when a werewolf kills the father of beautiful client Elizabeth Ryan (Anita Briem). With his wisecracking zombie sidekick (Sam Huntington), Dog traverses the Crescent City’s criminal underworld in an attempt to unwrap the conspiracy behind the murder. A dark place populated by werewolves, zombies...

The first domestic trailer for director Kevin Munroe‘s (Tmnt) new comedy-tinged horror-thriller, Dylan Dog: Dead of Night, is now online.
The film, based off the popular Italian horror comics, stars Brandon Routh as the titular character – a hard-bitten paranormal investigator – with Sam Huntington as his assistant Marcus Adams and Anita Briem as Dog’s client Elizabeth Ryan.
Dylan Dog: Dead of Night blends horror, humor and sophisticated storytelling set in the backstreets of New Orleans – a city with a long and storied history with the supernatural. The story revolves around Dylan Dog, the world’s only private investigator of the undead with a business card that features his slogan, “investigator of the paranormal: no pulse, no problem.” Along with his assistant Marcus, Dylan will go where the living dare not — facing down friend and foe alike, until justice is done.
Dylan Dog was created in 1986 by Tiziano Sclavi and published by Sergio Bonelli Editore.

Taylor Hackford will succeed Michael Apted as president of the Directors Guild of America.
Hackford was chosen Saturday during the guild's biennial national convention at Directors Guild headquarters in Hollywood. Steven Soderbergh was re-elected national VP and Gilbert Cates was re-elected secretary-treasurer.
The 135 delegates on hand also elected members of a new national board of directors. The DGA includes more than 14,000 members.
After a year and a half of labor unrest, which included a four-month writers strike and a protracted stand-off for the actors union, Hackford faces the challenge of navigating the next round of contract negotiations looming in.
With new-media considerations dominating the previous round's contentious debates, the de facto collective bargaining that will materialize in early should prove once again to be a battle over the digital future and how the creative community should be compensated as content migrates to the Web.
