Back in 2000, director Ridley Scott took us back to 180 Ad for Gladiator, which told the story of Roman general Maximus Decimus Meridius (played by Russell Crowe), who is favored by Emperor Marcus Aurelius to be his successor because his own son, Commodus, is unfit to rule. Commodus disagrees, so he murders his father, has Maximus arrested, and has Maximus’s wife and son killed. While Commodus establishes himself as the new emperor, Maximus escapes from captivity – only to be captured again, this time by slavers who sell him off to become a gladiator. Soon he’s fighting in front of Commodus in Rome’s Colosseum… and it all builds up to Commodus challenging Maximus to a duel. Gladiator was a major box office success and racked up multiple Academy Award wins, including Best Picture. So there was already talk of a sequel in 2001, but it ended up taking more than...

Fans of Ridley Scott’s Gladiator franchise must be rejoicing after the first footage from the much-anticipated sequel to the 2000 blockbuster was screened for CinemaCon goers last Thursday. An introduction from the director all the way from London was shown at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas.
Russell Crowe in Gladiator (2000)
With Paul Mescal in the lead, the movie promises to be “possibly more extraordinary than the first” as the veteran filmmaker pledges the second installment is worth the twenty-four years of waiting.
Gladiator 2’s First Footage Introduces Paul Mescal On The Lead
The footage exhibited the first look at Paul Mescal as Lucius, the nephew of Commodus and the son of Lucilla. The figure appeared astoundingly fit and fighting inside the arena against a man carried by a rhino and a herd of baboons. The character says:
“I remember that day. I never forgot it. That a slave could take revenge against an emperor.

Paul Mescal is the face of the new Roman Empire.
The Oscar-nominated actor leads Ridley Scott’s “Gladiator 2,” the sequel to the Academy Award-winning 2000 film, alongside an impressive cast that includes Denzel Washington, Pedro Pascal, Joseph Quinn, and Connie Nielsen reprising her role from the original film.
The footage screened at CinemaCon on Thursday was still unfinished, but Paramount debuted five minutes from the film. In it Mescal, who plays the nephew of Joaquin Phoenix’s Commodus from the original film, is again a slave fighting in games inside the Colosseum. Quinn is the new Caesar deciding the fate of the warriors with a turn of his thumb, Pascal is a general who is being honored with a series of games, and Washington’s character is mysterious, working from behind the scenes to control the power dynamics of ancient Rome.

When Steven Spielberg’s “Lincoln” was released in the fall of 2012, one of the nagging complaints — for an otherwise heralded film — related to its ending. Namely, it had too many.
Roger Ebert, in his four-star review, succinctly implied the picture should’ve wrapped before President Lincoln’s assassination. Samuel L. Jackson felt similarly, though he didn’t mince words about it. While it would be a stretch to say the contentious closing scenes chronicling Lincoln’s murder cost the film any of its Oscars — including losses in Best Editing, Best Screenplay, Best Director, and Best Picture — it’s exactly the type of first-thought quibble voters would use as an excuse for choosing their preferred nominee.
Though plenty of pundits backed the chosen ending and “Lincoln’s” sweeping acclaim and staggering box office spoke to its overall appreciation ($275 million for a 150-minute period drama? Martin Scorsese would kill a flower moon...

“Sic semper tyrannis!” With these words John Wilkes Booth fled Ford’s Theatre in Washington, D.C. after shooting Abraham Lincoln in the head with a 44 caliber derringer on April 14, 1865, altering the course of history and prompting a 12-day manhunt that ended when Sgt. Boston Corbett shot Booth in a Virginia farmhouse (he died hours later). The assassination and the pursuit are now the subjects of Manhunt, a brisk new limited series on Apple TV+.

The adaptation of Stephen King’s vampire novel Salem’s Lot won’t be deleted as many had feared; but it won’t see the inside of a cinema either.
Around a month ago, we wrote about the decision Warner Bros was facing regarding the future of Salem’s Lot, the adaptation of Stephen King’s 1975’s vampire novel. Filming completed on Salem’s Lot all the way back in November of 2021, but the film has been in limbo ever since. In the interim, Warner Bros top brass have seemingly gone back and forth regarding the film’s fate as the studio has repeatedly shifted its strategy towards theatrical releases.
Originally, the film was set for a streaming-only release on the studio’s Max platform. Then, as Warner Bros moved away from those plans and began to focus on projects that could be released theatrically, it also began to delete films so that...

Stephen King fans, rejoice! The fate of the film adaptation of "Salem's Lot" has been up in the air over the past couple years, despite revealing footage from the project at CinemaCon back in 2022. Not even Stephen King himself knew what was going on with the film's potential release, though he wasn't shy about singing the praises of the movie from filmmaker Gary Dauberman, the director of "Annabelle Comes Home" and co-writer of "It" and sole writer of "It: Chapter Two." Thankfully, fans no longer have to ask when they'll be able to see the new "Salem's Lot" movie, because we finally have an idea of when it will be released. But it won't be in theaters.
Max has officially announced that "Salem's Lot" will debut on the streaming service sometime in 2024. They didn't give a specific release date or even a season of the release, but at least the...

“Salem’s Lot” Will Skip Theaters to Stream Exclusively
The long-in-development film adaptation of Stephen King’s “Salem’s Lot” is being made, after all, but will no longer premiere in theaters, opting for a Max-exclusive streaming premiere this year with an official date to be announced later.
Originally intended for a September 2022 theatrical release, New Line Cinema pushed the film to 2023 citing the Covid-19 pandemic shutdown for delays before removing it from its release calendar entirely. King’s 1975 novel was first adapted for the screen with CBS’s 1979 miniseries starring David Soul.
“Salem’s Lot” is written and directed by Gary Dauberman (“Annabelle”). The new version will see Ben Mears (Lewis Pullman) return to his childhood home of Jerusalem’s Lot looking to come up with an idea for a new novel but discovers his hometown’s residents are becoming vampires.

Well, Mr. King, here’s your answer: the newest version of horror maestro Stephen King’s novel “Salem’s Lot” is coming out this year. Sometime. On streaming.
After initially being expected to hit theaters, New Line’s film adaptation of King’s 1975 bestselling novel “Salem’s Lot” will debut on Max in 2024, the streamer announced today. As for when in 2024, we still don’t know, and as for what this thing will even look like, still no answer there, as today’s announcement came without any sort of handy-dandy still to round out the news.
The film was first announced in 2019 and was shot way back in 2021. Last month, King himself took to Twitter (X?) to publicly wonder where the heck the film was. “Between you and me, Twitter, I’ve seen the new ‘Salem’s Lot’ and it’s quite good,” King wrote on social media. “Old-school horror filmmaking: slow build,...

Some good news, ladies and gents – it appears as though the long-shelved big-screen adaption of Stephen King’s Salem’s Lot (buy a copy of the novel Here) won’t be deleted after all. Variety just broke the news that New Line and Warner Bros will put the movie out on its Max streaming service this year. While this was widely anticipated, in recent months, the buzz had turned pretty dark, with it heavily rumored that WB would be taking a loss on the film and deleting it, which is what they did with Batgirl. The Looney Tunes/live-action mash-up Coyote vs Acme seems to be going that way as well (unless John Cena’s comic performance at the Oscar swayed anyone).
This is the third adaptation of Salem’s Lot. The previous two were both mini-series, which aired in 1979 and 2004. This new take on the concept is said to be set...

The long-awaited adaptation of Stephen King’s Salem’s Lot from director Gary Dauberman (Annabelle Comes Home) is still without a release date, but we’ve learned from The Hollywood Reporter this afternoon that the film will Not be releasing in theaters at all.
As we suspected, Salem’s Lot will be a straight-to-streaming release for the Max streaming service. THR notes, “No date was given, but sources believe a fourth quarter release is likely.”
Originally set for theatrical release on September 9, 2022, the new Stephen King adaptation was recently bumped to April 21, 2023, before getting ejected from the theatrical slate.
For what it’s worth, Stephen King has recently tweeted praise for the film.
King wrote earlier this year, “I’ve seen the new Salem’S Lot and it’s quite good. Old-school horror filmmaking: slow build, big payoff. Not sure why WB is holding it back; not like it’s embarrassing, or anything.

Max has made it official that New Line’s feature take of Stephen King’s 1975 bestselling novel Salem’s Lot isn’t going in theaters, but on the Ott service this year. No exact date has been announced.
The buzz of this was heavily out there. It’s sort of an upset to Warner Bros Discovery: CEO David Zaslav has emphasized how he’s about theatrical, and how he doesn’t believe in straight-to-streaming movies. Salem’s Lot was expected to be another big play for New Line in the revived Stephen King big screen universe following the massive $1.1 billion global grossing success of the It franchise. In fact, the co-writer of that movie, Gary Dauberman, directed, adapted and executive produced Salem’s Lot. Plot: Based on the Edgar Award-winning non-fiction book from author James L. Swanson, “Manhunt” is a conspiracy thriller about one of the best known but least understood crimes in history, the astonishing story of the hunt for John Wilkes Booth in the aftermath of Abraham Lincoln’s assassination.
Review: The life and untimely death of Abraham Lincoln have been fodder for film and television since the invention of the medium. Before that, books and stage plays told the story of the President who ended the Civil War, abolished slavery, and died unceremoniously. But, in all of the tales of Honest Abe and his killer, John Wilkes Booth, few have chronicled the tumultuous aftermath between Ford’s Theater and the capture of those who perpetrated the heinous murder. Aside from Robert Redford’s The Conspirator, which focused on the trial of Booth’s accomplices, we have never gotten a full retelling of the events.

For a guy who writes about awful stuff happening to people, Stephen King sure likes liking things. Just think about how many times he’s used his position to praise other creatives and projects. “I have seen the future of horror and his name is Clive Barker,” declared his blurb for the American release of Books of Blood. “Tight, terrific, and very, very scary. Reminded me a bit of Duel,” he said of The Fall on Twitter in 2022. “Wish I’d written it.” Heck, his horror history book Danse Macabre ends with an appendix recommending over 100 books and nearly 100 movies.
But when the 76-year-old writer praises the upcoming film adaptation of his seminal novel Salem’s Lot , King’s word carries a bit more weight. King published Salem’s Lot, about a man who learns that his old hometown has become infested with vampires, in 1975 and is still regarded decades later as...

Ridley Scott’s “Napoleon” was revered by the British critics and scored well at the European box office, but it found a muted stateside response. (The Metascore is 64 — respectable but not stellar.) During the awards race (ballots are due January 16 at 5 Pm Pt), the movie scored well with crafts — but the Golden Globes nominated Joaquin Phoenix for “Beau is Afraid,” not “Napoleon.”
All of this leaves the 86-year-old filmmaker waiting a while longer to return to the Best Director circle; his fourth nomination was in 2016 for “The Martian.” He caught up with us on Zoom at his vacation home in Provence before he wraps the last few weeks of post production on “Gladiator 2,” which will be released Thanksgiving weekend. He likes to skirt around some questions.

Oscar-nominated actor Paul Mescal is bracing for his level of celebrity to skyrocket after the release of Ridley Scott’s “Gladiator” sequel.
Mescal is playing the lead role of Lucius (previously played by Spencer Treat Clark in the original 2000 film) for “Gladiator 2,” set 20 years after the events of the first film. The estimated era for the feature is 200 B.C.E., with Lucius leading the next generation of the ruling Roman family after the death of his uncle Commodus (Joaquin Phoenix). Pedro Pascal and Denzel Washington co-star.
Mescal recently spoke to The Sunday Times about how the big-budget feature could mark a turning point in his career, especially when it comes to dealing with fame.
“I don’t know what the difference will be. Maybe that’s naïve? Is it just that more people will stop you in the street?” Mescal asked. “I’d get profoundly depressed if that...

Sir Ridley Scott, the legendary filmmaker and grumpy grandpa extraordinaire, should probably be pictured in the dictionary next to the term "straight shooter." So when you ask him why he finally decided to make a sequel to "Gladiator", he's not going to default to studio-approved talking points. Instead, he'll cut right to the chase and tell you it all came down to finding a reason to make "Gladiator 2" other than for money.
"Well, economically, it makes sense," Scott told Deadline. (See what I mean?) Like most people, Scott felt the first film was "completely satisfactory, creatively complete, so why muck with it, right?" Of course, money talks in Hollywood, so he kept having conversations about the project for the next 20 years, to the point where it "started to spell itself out as an obvious thing to do, and that's how it evolved." Before the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes shut down Hollywood and the production of Gladiator 2, Ridley Scott was able to shoot 90 minutes of the film, which he had been editing amid the strikes.
“With SAG-AFTRA and the studios back in negotiations, he was preparing to pick up Gladiator 2, which stars Paul Mescal, the moment the strike was resolved. ‘I could shoot on Monday,’ he said. (The talks fell apart a week later.),” reads the New Yorker profile on Scott.
Footage that was shot before the strikes includes a scene with baboons.
The profile continued, “In the meantime, he’d been polishing the 90 minutes he had, including a scene in which the hero fights a pack of baboons; he’d been haunted, he said, by a video of baboons attacking tourists in Johannesburg: ‘Baboons are carnivores. Can you hang from that roof for two hours by your left leg? No!

Warner Bros. has been keeping director Gary Dauberman‘s adaptation of the Stephen King novel Salem’s Lot (buy a copy of the novel Here) on the shelf for a long time – and while a rumor recently surfaced that they may be sending the movie to the Max streaming service, we’re still waiting to see if that rumor is going to be debunked or confirmed. While we wait, King has decided to go ahead and share his thoughts on Dauberman’s film on his X account. Overall, King has a positive outlook on the new Salem’s Lot… even though it has diversions from the book that he didn’t agree with.
King said, “The Warner Bros remake of Salem’S Lot, currently shelved, is muscular and involving. It has the feel of “Old Hollywood,” when a film was given a chance to draw a breath before getting to business. When attention spans were longer,...

The long-awaited adaptation of Stephen King’s Salem’s Lot from director Gary Dauberman (Annabelle Comes Home) is still without a release date, but we did get a bit of an update on Halloween night earlier this week. According to the latest reports, Warner Bros. is toying with the idea of bringing Salem’s Lot straight-to-streaming sometime in 2024.
Originally set for theatrical release on September 9, 2022, the new Stephen King adaptation was recently bumped to April 21, 2023, before getting ejected from the theatrical slate altogether. As of now, Salem’s Lot still doesn’t have a release date. If this week’s latest update is accurate, the film will be debuting on the Max streaming service in the coming months.
Taking to Twitter this week, Stephen King himself has shared his honest thoughts on Gary Dauberman’s adaptation of his classic novel. And it sounds like he’s (mostly) a fan.

One of the biggest questions this year in terms of horror releases remains: Where’s the Salem’s Lot remake? According to Variety, the Gary Dauberman-directed Stephen King adaptation may be heading to Max, the Warner Bros. Discovery streaming platform.
Originally set for theatrical release on September 9, 2022, the new Stephen King adaptation was recently bumped to April 21, 2023, before getting ejected from the theatrical slate altogether. As of now, Salem’s Lot still doesn’t have a release date.
While a Warner Bros. spokesperson told Variety, “No decision has been made about the film’s future distribution plans,” the outlet cites that “the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike has created a growing need for Max content.” That makes Salem’s Lot a prime candidate, considering how long the adaptation has been shelved.
Perhaps, with vocal support from fans, Salem’s Lot may yet head to theaters as Evil Dead Rise did earlier this year.

Paul Mescal may have been entertained but he was also intimidated, sharing that he was nervous to even approach his Gladiator 2 co-star Pedro Pascal prior to shooting the upcoming sequel.
In a new Esquire UK profile, Paul Mescal said before it was made public that he had joined the cast of Gladiator 2, he bumped into Pascal at the airport but tried to duck him. ”I was too afraid to go up to him…He came up and just seemed so genuine; I’m really looking forward to hanging out with him.”
While Pedro Pascal’s role remains unknown, Paul Mescal’s Gladiator 2 character is that of Lucius, who was featured in Ridley Scott’s original as portrayed by Spencer Treat Clark. But even he is remaining secretive on what has come of the character, saying, “I can’t tell you how stressed I am talking about that film in particular,...

Paul Mescal is the lead of the Gladiator sequel and will have Pedro Pascal as a co-star. The Normal People actor is opening up about his first interaction with The Mandalorian star and why the Ridley Scott-directed sequel film has him “stressed.”
Mescal is set to take over the role of Lucius that Spencer Treat Clark portrayed in the original 2000 film. Ahead of Pascal’s involvement in the film, Mescal ran into the actor at Lax airport but was “too afraid” to approach him.
“He came up and just seemed so genuine,” Mescal told Esquire, in an interview conducted before the SAG-AFTRA strike. “I’m really looking forward to hanging out with him.”
Although filming for the sequel film has been halted due to the ongoing actors strike, Mescal said at the time he was nervous about not spilling any tea on what Gladiator 2 is about.

Paul Mescal and Pedro Pascal were two of the biggest breakout stars of the past year thanks to their roles in “Aftersun” and “The Last of Us.” Both landed coveted parts in Ridley Scott’s upcoming sequel “Gladiator 2,” with Mescal taking the lead role of Lucius (previously played by Spencer Treat Clark in the original film). Pascal plays an unspecified supporting character and Mescal said he felt Pascal’s gravitas from the moment he walked on set.
In a new interview with Esquire, Mescal talked about the overwhelming experience of working on “Gladiator 2” (which has currently paused production due to the SAG-AFTRA strike). He recalled meeting Pascal for the first time, noting that he was too nervous to approach the “Mandalorian” star himself and had to wait for Pascal to start a conversation.

Several crew members were injured on the set of the Gladiator sequel while filming a stunt scene in Morocco.
A spokesperson for Paramount Pictures, the studio producing the film, said, “The safety and full medical services teams on-site were able to act quickly so that those who were impacted immediately received the necessary care. They are all in stable condition and continue to receive treatment.” They later added, “We will continue monitoring the situation and taking all necessary precautions as we resume production.”
Six people in total were treated with four still in the hospital. All six crew members received medical attention for burn injuries. No cast members were injured.
The sequel to the 2000 historical drama is scheduled to be released in theaters on November 22, 2024. It stars Paul Mescal, Pedro Pascal, Denzel Washington and Connie Nielsen with Ridley Scott returning as director.

Are you not entertained? Because Ridley Scott is returning to his place of highest success, the film that has won more awards than any other he has made in his over four-decade-long career. "Gladiator" picked up five Oscars the year after its release, including Best Picture and Best Actor for Russell Crowe, and it has since been regarded as one of the best movies of its genre and the 2000s. Incidentally, a follow-up has been in the making, in some form or another, for over two decades now.
But the shape of the as-yet-untitled "Gladiator 2" has changed considerably. As it now stands, the sequel is going to follow Lucius Verus, the young boy from "Gladiator" who inadvertently told his conniving, regicidal uncle Commodus (Joaquin Phoenix) of the plot to topple him. Though Lucius bore the name of his alleged real-life co-emperor father, he will be revealed as the son...

At the turn of the millennium, Gladiator revived Ridley Scott_. But despite constant rumours, he’s never returned to the world of his greatest hit… until now.
Here’s what you need to know.
1) It’s a Ridley Scott joint
Scott might have ceded the director’s chair for Blade Runner 2049 to Denis Villeneuve, but rather than delegate the Gladiator sequel, he’s kept it for himself. Production is set to get underway when he finishes his quiet, intimate drama (read: massive battle-tastic historical epic) Napoleon, which is currently in post-production.
It’s funny to see him taking on back-to-back sword-swinging behemoths – back in the early 2000s, Scott nearly turned down the offer from super-producer Dino De Laurentiis to direct Hannibal, because he thought it was about the Carthaginian general and his elephants, and couldn’t face climbing another Gladiator-sized mountain straight away.Apparently he has even more energy today,...

Ridley Scott is building quite the cast for his Gladiator sequel, which is now close to shooting. With Paul Mescal, Barry Keoghan and Denzel Washington already aboard, he's adding a returning veteran of the original and one extra new fresh face as Connie Nielsen is back as Lucilla, while Stranger Things breakout Joseph Quinn has landed the role of Emperor Caracalla.
Gladiator 2 will be set years after the events of the first film and finds Mescal playing a grown version of the character Lucius (Lucilla's son), as originally brought to life by Spencer Treat Clark. Keoghan is in line to be the primary antagonist, Roman Emperor Geta (a fictional take on a real-life ruler). As for Caracalla, he's a mystery for now, alongside Washington's character (only described as a "bad-ass").
The sequel should be in cinemas for 22 November next year.

Now that the long-gestating Gladiator sequel is moving towards production, director Ridley Scott's clearly wasting no time in gathering a top notch ensemble. With Paul Mescal and, more recently, Barry Keoghan attached to two of the main roles, Scott is adding Denzel Washington to the line-up.
This would, of course, mean a reunion for Scott and Washington after working on 2007's American Gangster, which starred the latter as crime boss Frank Lucas.
What role he'd be playing here isn't disclosed in Deadline's report on the casting, but Washington was apparently swayed by the "badass" role writer David Scarpa has crafted for him, and a meeting with Scott helped seal the deal.

Get ready to see Denzel Washington as you’ve never seen him before: in sandals! The two-time Academy Award winner is reportedly set to star in director Ridley Scott’s sequel to “Gladiator,” according to Deadline.
Washington joins Paul Mescal and potentially Barry Keoghan, who were both nominated for Oscars this year, in the historical action epic. It will be a reunion for Washington and Scott, 16 years after Scott directed Washington in the crime drama “American Gangster.”
Details of Washington’s character have not been revealed, but according to Deadline, it’s a “bad-ass role” Scott devised with Washington specifically in mind. The sequel will follow an adult Lucius (Mescal), the son of Lucilla (Connie Nielsen) and nephew of Commodus (Joaquin Phoenix). Maximus (Russell Crowe) – who died at the end of “Gladiator” – saved Lucilla and Lucius from Commodus. Lucius was played by Spencer Treat Clark as a boy.

Ridley Scott's "Gladiator" sequel just got even cooler: Deadline is reporting that Denzel Washington is finalizing negotiations to star in the upcoming sequel to Scott's Best Picture winning 2000 epic.
Washington is reportedly set to play a "bad-ass" role that Scott crafted just for him, and Deadline's sources say the "Training Day" and "Malcolm X" star became interested after reading the script. The film's screenplay is written by David Scarpa, who has worked with Scott before on projects including "All The Money in the World." While the nature of Washington's role hasn't been revealed, previous reporting indicates that the new movie will follow Lucius, the nephew of Joaquin Phoenix's villainous ruler Commodus.
The Hollywood veteran isn't the first person to join the cast, although Washington definitely adds even more gravitas to the already-exciting project. Paul Mescal, the Oscar-nominated actor whose short filmography has included fantastic turns in "Normal People,...

He may not have picked up an Oscar this past weekend, but Barry Keoghan is seeing no slowing of his career momentum. According to Giant Freakin Robot (whose story has since been confirmed by the big trade mags), he's now in talks to join Ridley Scott's Gladiator sequel.
Assuming he locks down a deal, Keoghan would join fellow first-time Oscar nominee Paul Mescal in the film, which Scott is gearing up to make to continue the story of his 2000 epic.
Set years after the events of that film, it'll find Mescal playing a grown version of the character Lucius, as brought to life by Spencer Treat Clark in the original. Keoghan is in line to be the primary antagonist, Roman Emperor Geta (a fictional take on a real-life ruler).

Ridley Scott's long-awaited "Gladiator" sequel is starting to feel, well, quite a bit Irish. The sequel to the Best Picture winner of 2000 is loading up on talent after news first broke of the Best Actor-nominated Paul Mescal being cast as the lead of the historical epic. Well, it turns out that that was only the beginning.
The Hollywood Reporter brings word that actor Barry Keoghan is currently in talks to join the upcoming sequel to "Gladiator," which originally starred Russell Crowe and Joaquin Phoenix in an epic melodrama set in and around the blood-soaked Coliseum in ancient Rome. Both actors went on to garner nominations for Best Actor (which Crowe handily won) and Best Supporting Actor, so there's definitely a fun parallel between Mescal and Keoghan -- both of whom were up for Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor, respectively, at this year's Oscars -- now getting set to...

Barry Keoghan, the Oscar-nominated actor who is right at home in a good period piece, is in talks to join Paul Mescal in Ridley Scott’s untitled Gladiator sequel, sources tell The Hollywood Reporter.
Scott is directing the sequel to his 2000 historical epic that starred Russell Crowe as Maximus, a former general forced into becoming a gladiator under the rule of the patricidal self-appointed Roman emperor Commodus (Joaquin Phoenix). The movie won the Oscar for best picture, while Crowe took home the statuette for best actor, among the five wins for the lauded movie. Neither Crowe’s nor Phoenix’s character survived the proceedings.
The sequel will star Aftersun Oscar nominee Mescal, who is said to be playing Lucius, the son of Lucilla (Connie Nielsen) and the nephew of Phoenix’s Commodus. (Spencer Treat Clark played the role in the original film.)
If a deal makes, Keoghan will play a character named Emperor Geta.

Are you not entertained? Ridley Scott's "Gladiator" was a massive hit, coming in second at the global box office in 2000 behind "Mission: Impossible II" and taking home five Oscars, including Best Picture and Best Actor for Russell Crowe's turn as the Hispano-Roman general turned enslaved (and vengeful) gladiator fighter, Maximus Decimus Meridius. The film didn't exactly usher in a shiny new era for the sword-and-sandal flick, although it did lead to some rather profitable entries in the sub-genre, along with some busts we're probably better off forgetting. Even Scott has failed to repeat its commercial success with his historical epics since then, which is too bad seeing as some of them are quite good.
After years of rumors and one abandoned version that would've followed a newly-resurrected Maximus on a quest to slay a Christ-like figure named Hephaestos, "Gladiator 2" has officially received a Commodus-style thumbs up and...

If you're not entertained, you will be soon: Ridley Scott's "Gladiator 2" is actually happening, according to The Hollywood Reporter, and it's already finalizing its lead. Scott's original 2000 Best Picture winner starred Russell Crowe as Maximus Decimus Meridius, an enslaved Roman warrior who faces off against Joaquin Phoenix's villainous ruler Commodus. The new film is reportedly set to tell the story of Lucius, the nephew of Commodus, with "Normal People" and "Aftersun" star Paul Mescal in talks to take on the role.
THR reporter Borys Kit revealed via Twitter that the search for the new Lucius (the character appeared as a child played by Spencer Treat Clark in the original "Gladiator") was extremely competitive, with actors like Timothée Chalamet, Austin Butler, Miles Teller, and Richard Madden apparently vying for the spot at one point. But Mescal, an actor who has only tackled a small handful of on-screen roles...

While it might not have a solid release date quite yet, it sure sounds like the remake of the classic adaptation of Stephen King's Salem's Lot will eventually come to the big screen. At least, we and star Lewis Pullman certainly hope so. After all, Stephen King's vampire novel deserves to be reintroduced to a new generation. Hopefully, director Gary Dauberman will get to see his adaptation finally release amidst ongoing uncertainty at Warner Bros. Discovery.
What exactly will this adaptation entail? While major changes are still being kept under wraps, Pullman recently told ComicBook.com that some key aspects from the original novel will be retained for the big screen. While many book-to-movie adaptations promise to be faithful to varying degrees, it sounds like "Salem's Lot" will be taking that a step further.
"For the most part, [Dauberman's] really true to the book and [is] keeping a lot of the original dialogue in there,...

Warner Bros. still hasn’t announced a new release date for director Gary Dauberman‘s adaptation of the Stephen King novel Salem’s Lot (buy a copy of the novel Here), which was originally supposed to be in theatres this past September. Then it was moved to April of next year. Then it was removed from the schedule entirely when Warner Bros. dropped Evil Dead Rise into its release date. But it will be coming along eventually (unless it gets Batgirled), and star Lewis Pullman (Top Gun: Maverick) believes fans of the book will be satisfied when they see the movie.
Speaking with ComicBook.com, Pullman said, “Gary Dauberman, the director, is really keen on doing justice to the book. But also, the previous adaptation was a two-parter, because it’s such a hefty book and there are so many different moving parts and so many characters. So there are some parts...

The new adaptation of Salem’s Lot from director Gary Dauberman is currently missing in action, originally set for release in September 2022 before more recently being bumped to April 2023. As we learned over the summer, the WB/New Line movie is now without a release date entirely, and we’re waiting to hear more on that.
In the meantime, star Lewis Pullman (The Strangers: Prey at Night) has offered up some thoughts on Salem’s Lot in a chat with ComicBook.com, teasing the faithfulness to Stephen King‘s novel. How faithful is the new adaptation? According to Pullman, quite faithful.
