Donald Trump doubled down on his assertions that student protests against Israel’s ongoing military offensive in Gaza are exponentially worse than the deadly 2017 neo-Nazi rallies held in Charlottesville, Virginia.
In statements given to reporters gathered at Manhattan criminal court — where he is currently standing trial — Trump said that if President Joe Biden “ran because of Charlottesville […] Charlottesville is peanuts compared to what you’re looking at now,” the former president said, echoing a similar claim he made last week. Bill Maher is expanding his Club Random podcast into a network, with plans to launch a new show with sports journalist Sage Steele.
Maher, host of HBO’s Real Time, is teaming with his co-creators and executive producer Chris Case and Chuck Labella in the venture, with plans to feature celebrity talent who want to “try something different and span a wide variety of personalities and interests,” according to an announcement.
Club Random Studios, as the venture is named, will debut The Sage Steele Show later today. In a statement, Maher said that the former ESPN anchor is “the perfect choice to be our first new host because, like me, she pissed off Disney. There’s a certain poetic symmetry to that.”
Maher said, “My lifelong goal has been to get the kind of conversation we have in life – utterly real, completely authentic, cleaned up for no one – on the air.

After two years of hosting his own podcast, Bill Maher will help others do the same with Club Random Studios, a podcast network and entertainment hub aiming to champion “authenticity from unfiltered celebrity voices.”
Besides Maher’s own “Club Random,” the network’s first show is “The Sage Steele Show,” hosted by Sage Steele, dropping March 27. Steele joined ESPN as an anchor in 2007 and climbed the ranks at the network until she was suspended without pay over controversial comments she made on another podcast. She sued ESPN and settled last year. Upcoming guests on “The Sage Steele Show” include Dana White, Howie Mandel, Sharon Osbourne, Jillian Michaels, Drea DeMatteo, Adam Carolla, Reggie Watts and Steve Garvey.
In a statement announcing the new venture, Maher said, “Dance like no one’s watching? We talk like no one can cancel us.”

HBO Real Time host Bill Maher is launching a podcast network.
The Club Random Studios network (the name is derived from Maher’s Club Random podcast), will seek to host podcasts built on an idea of “freedom of expression,” the late night host tells The Hollywood Reporter.
“I am looking for people who are not talking point people. I’m looking for people who don’t, before they speak, say, ‘what’s the right answer here?'” Maher added.
The first podcast on the network, which Maher is backing alongside co-creators Chris Case and Chuck Labella, will be hosted by Sage Steele, the former ESPN SportsCenter anchor who parted ways with the channel last year after settling a free speech lawsuit. Steele filed the suit alleging retaliation after she made controversial comments about the Covid-19 vaccine mandates on a podcast hosted by Jay Cutler.

(Updated with more results & Super Tuesday details) The Congressman from Hollywood is one big step closer to becoming the Golden State’s junior Senator, but saw up-close this Super Tuesday some of the visceral challenges Democrats face from their own base.
In the double header that is California’s primary this Super Tuesday, Adam Schiff secured the top spot with just under 40% of the vote in. NBC News and the Associated Press called it for Schiff just over 30 minutes after the polls closed in the nation’s most populous state.
Not that the night was all balloon drops and victory dances for the veteran Congressman.
Dozens of protesters chanting “ceasefire now” over the worsening situation in Gaza made it near impossible for Schiff to get though his speech to supporters at Avalon on LA’s Vine Street.
Adam Schiff’s entire victory speech tonite was interrupted by protesters chanting for a ceasefire in Gaza.

Donald Trump cruised through Super Tuesday, as expected — but the night’s single biggest race may have been the U.S. Senate primary in California. It’s the first time in decades the seat in question has been seriously contested; Dianne Feinstein held it from 1992 until she died last September. She announced a few months earlier that she wouldn’t be seeking reelection, and the race to replace her has been raging ever since.

Updated, with latest results: Donald Trump and Joe Biden dominated a majority of Super Tuesday contests this evening, making it all the more certain that the November election will be a rematch.
Biden and Trump were projected to be the winners, by a wide margin, of party primaries in California, Colorado, Texas, Virginia, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Maine, Arkansas, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Alabama, Utah and Tennessee. Biden also was projected to win Vermont, and Trump won a caucus in Alaska.
The lingering question was whether Nikki Haley would continue her bid for the Republican nomination as Trump’s last remaining rival. She was projected to win Vermont, denying Trump a sweep of all Super Tuesday contests. Referring to Trump’s speech earlier in the evening, her campaign said in a statement, “Unity is not achieved by simply claiming, ‘we’re united.'”
Otherwise, the former president scored lopsided margins of victory.

Katie Porter — the California representative famous for skewering corporate CEOs in congressional hearings — is sick of the “glacial” pace of the U.S. Senate and is brimming with plans to shake up the “stale” institution. If she can get elected.

Rep. Adam Schiff (D-ca) and Rep. Katie Porter (D-ca) are making their final TV ads buys before Tuesday’s Senate primary, but one candidate has shot to the top of the polls without spending a dime on such spots.
In fact, according to one poll released today, former Dodgers star and Republican Steve Garvey is leading, albeit slightly, with just days to go.
Garvey may have Schiff to thank for pumping up his prospects. According to research firm AdImpact, 60% of Schiff’s broadcast ads mention Garvey. None mention Porter.
That’s widely viewed as by design on Schiff’s part.
California has an open primary, and the top two finishers on Tuesday will advance to the general election, regardless of party. Schiff has had an enduring lead in most other polls, and by highlighting Garvey and his conservative positions, he may be helping consolidate the vote on the right. There were few surprises at the third and likely final pre-primary meet up of the four leading candidates for California’s open U.S. Senate seat, a race increasingly defined by a race for No. 2 behind front-runner Rep. Adam Schiff (D-ca).
The NBC4/Knbc and Telemundo 52/Kvea event at Universal Studios was perhaps the most muted of all three debates, with few fireworks and the candidates often reverting to their talking points.
Rep. Katie Porter (D-ca) focused her attacks on Schiff, her colleague in the House, including a tiff over the value of earmarks.
“For too many decades, Washington does sweetheart deals for certain defense contractors through earmarks,” Porter said. “And there is a candidate on this stage who has done that, again and again, getting earmarks for his private corporate donors who are big defense contractors.”
Schiff responded, “We have a strong disagreement over whether senators should bring back resources for their state.

The four leading candidates for California’s open U.S. Senate seat met again this evening, this time in a one-hour San Francisco debate that produced fewer clashes than their first gathering in January.
Still, with less than a month before the state’s open primary, Rep. Adam Schiff (D-ca) focused a number of his attacks on Steve Garvey, the sole Republican on the stage, particularly over the “issue” of Donald Trump.
“Let me just say this also to Mr. Garvey: The greatest threat that we have to our democracy is Donald Trump,” Schiff said.
Garvey voted for Trump in the last two presidential elections but said that, when it comes to supporting him this year, he “will make that decision when the time comes.” In response to Schiff, Garvey said that the “gravest threat to democracy is deconstruction of the Constitution. Packing the court. Doing away with the filibuster.

Exclusive: Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden will travel to Los Angeles on Saturday, with plans for the president to meet with Black leaders in the entertainment industry in town for the Grammys, according to a source familiar with the plans.
During the campaign visit, the president plans to talk with the industry leaders about the issues at stake in the election and how they can use their platforms to mobilize voters between now and the November election, according to the source.
The Bidens are planning to travel to Las Vegas on Sunday for the re-election campaign, so they will not be attending the Grammy ceremony. But during the telecast, the campaign plans to air a recently introduced ad spotlighting abortion rights, with the spot running in markets in battleground states, the source said.
There has been some buzz during the past few days that the Bidens would be visiting L.

Adam Schiff’s Senate campaign announced a multimillion dollar, statewide ad buy for a spot that is most notable for who it singles out: Steve Garvey, the former Dodger great who is running as the highest profile Republican in a Democratic-dominated state.
In the spot, the narrator says, “Steve Garvey, the leading Republican, is too conservative for California — he voted for Trump, twice, and supported Republicans for years, including far right conservatives.
“Adam Schiff, the leading Democrat, defended democracy against Trump and the insurrectionists.”
Isn’t it to be expected that Schiff, one of the most prominent Trump foes in Congress, would want to highlight Garvey’s backing of the former Celebrity Apprentice host in the past two elections?
Perhaps, but these are the dynamics of an open primary, where the top two finishers in the March vote will go on to the general election, regardless of party.

“I don’t think you can judge that from Barbie not getting nominated,” said Rep. Adam Schiff (D-ca) tonight to Bill Maher when asked by the host if the snub of the blockbuster’s director Greta Gerwig and star Margot Robbie in the Oscars nominations means America is a patriarchy or not.

Just days after a full debate between the leading candidates for California’s open Senate seat, Rep. Schiff found himself in the slightly warm seat again tonight on HBO’s Real Time with Bill Maher.

The three Democrats running for California’s open Senate seat sought to define their differences at their first debate tonight, but the the real flashpoint was with the sole Republican on the stage, Steve Garvey, and where he stood on Donald Trump.
After he said that he would support the former president if he returned to office, Rep. Adam Schiff (D-ca), Rep. Katie Porter (D-ca) and Rep. Barbara Lee (D-ca) tried to get him to say whether he would vote for him again.
“What more do you need to see of what he’s done to say that you will not support him, that you will not vote to put him back in office?” Schiff asked.
“There’s identity politics at its finest right there, trying to paint me into the corner,” Garvey, the former Dodger star and political newcomer, responded. “Trying to call me Maga. … I am my own man.

To start the new year right: classic English punk and a shot of what’s next; the definitive account of the greatest British white-r&B band of the Sixties that you still don’t know; and experimental vigor from Norway, vintage and immediate.

Spill a drink and smash the glass for the late, great Pete Shelley of the Buzzcocks, one of the most humane, compassionate, emotionally raw songwriters punk rock ever coughed up, not to mention the funniest. He twisted all the gender codes of rock & roll, casually shrugging off the masculine clichés punk inherited, pouring his heart out into three-minute vignettes. “Ever Fallen In Love,” “Get on Our Own,” “What Do I Get?,” “I Don’t Know What to Do With My Life” — these songs were emotionally urgent enough to make his peers sound like drooling cartoons.

Former Los Angeles Dodgers first baseman Steve Garvey has undergone surgery in his battle against prostate cancer. The Major League Baseball great reveals his prostate was removed in October after a cancer diagnosis one month prior.
The announcement comes as the 1974 National League Mvp and 10-time All-Star makes available for auction many items from his own collection, including his Mvp trophy. The Los Angeles Times reports 70% of the proceeds form the auctioned items will be given toward prostate cancer awareness.
"I was thrown a pretty good curveball by God," Garvey says. "I felt I was being challenged to work for prostate awareness for men and the women who love them." Though he's not technically in the clear as far as his own cancer fight goes, gravy says he's "cautiously optimistic." He plans to devote much of his time now to prostate cancer awareness.

Cyndy Garvey has sued UCLA over tuition costs she has had wrongfully leveled against her. The former "The Morning Show" co-host and ex-wife of baseball legend Steve Garvey claims she was duped into enrolling in the university's master's program after UCLA said it would split the costs with her.
According to TMZ, Garvey was "approached by two UCLA bigshots and asked if she would enroll in a master's program at the UCLA School of Public Health." She said she had no interest, but the two people -- one of whom was allegedly the former director of the executive master's program -- said a rich alumnus would pay for half of Garvey's education because of her "celebrity status."
Garvey agreed and graduated in 2009, and all seemed well until she was recently hit was a $20,000 tax lien claiming she had unpaid debt to UCLA. Her attorney Keith Fink has filed a suit with the L.
