Jelly Roll (real name Jason DeFord) has become a household name over the last year.
The country music star has even crossed over into the pop genre, and his fan base continues to grow daily.
Earlier this season on American Idol, he was chosen as a mentor to work with the contestants while they were on location in Hawaii.
He was there to lend experience and help the contestants succeed; no ego was involved.
He caught the attention of Katy Perry, a judge on American Idol since it was brought back to life and moved to ABC. She had nothing but good things to say about him.
Katy even suggested Jelly Roll should be the one to replace her on the panel of judges as she plans to exit when the current season ends later this month.

The Top 7 were revealed in a live two-hour broadcast of “American Idol” Monday night. Host Ryan Seacrest called the Top 8 to the stage to perform in the “Judge’s Song Contest Night,” where Kaibrienne was eliminated. In a poll conducted just after the episode, we asked, “Which contestant gave the best performance of the night?” Platinum Ticket winner Abi Carter came out on top with her rendition of “Bring Me To Life” by Evanescence. Watch her full performance above.
Judges Luke Bryan, Katy Perry and Lionel Richie were gobsmacked by the performance, but Luke was especially happy since he chose the song. “I’ve created a monster!” he exclaimed before Katy added, “”You just kicked down all four walls of the box I thought you were in.”

While we absolutely love scripted movies and television here at /Film, we also have a deep appreciation for documentaries — series and films alike. With so many streaming services available, it feels like there are more documentaries out there than ever before, which can make finding the right one to watch a bit intimidating. Thankfully, I'm here to help recommend some of the best docs streaming this May, from remastered versions of music classics like "Stop Making Sense" and "Let it Be" to new docs with a fresh perspective, like the shocking "Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV" and "Stormy." There has honestly been a massive influx of showbiz docs lately, with a couple more great ones dropping fresh this month. The entertainment industry has always been rife with controversy and chaos, so there's sure to be no end of these docs anytime soon. Still, this latest crop is a real doozy.

ABC’s American Idol Season 22 shows returning judges Katy Perry, Lionel Richie, and Luke Bryan giving sage advice to the amateur singers hoping for their big break. [Warning: The below contains spoilers for American Idol.] The Top 10 took the stage during American Idol to perform songs from their birth year. To help them with this trip down memory lane was country superstar Shania Twain, who served as Sunday’s show mentor. Judges Katy Perry, Lionel Richie, and Luke Bryan had a front-row seat as the singers aimed to secure a Top 8 slot based on America’s live voting. Breaking up the heat of competition was two homecomings. Idol champs Scotty McCreery and Just Sam stopped by to show the competitors what is possible with their careers. Scotty brought “Cab in a Solo,” and Just Sam took on Whitney Houston’s“One Moment in Time.” Since Just Sam won in 2020 during Covid and the at-home season, it was the first time they performed before a live Idol audience. A powerful moment indeed. Who did host Ryan Seacrest announce making it to the next round?...

Just Sam, the American Idol 2020 winner, returned for Season 22 to perform Whitney Houston’s “One Moment in Time.”
The singer went viral last year after revealing that despite winning Season 18 of the ABC competition, she had to return to performing in the NYC subways.
Just Sam won the singing show amid the Covid lockdowns and performed from home. Her return to the show allowed her to sing on the Idol stage and in front of the judges once again.
