After leaving the Dceu behind, Zack Snyder has been quite busy with his Rebel Moon franchise which already has two films to its name. The films revolve around a fictional galaxy ruled by something called the Motherworld. Rebel Moon sees Sofia Boutella in the lead role as she does a splendid job of bringing Korra to life. From the cast to the crew, Zack Snyder worked with brilliant people who were on the top of their game.
Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon: Part 2 – The Scargiver
However, it seems like the filmmaker felt that there was still a piece missing from the puzzle. As it turns out, the missing jigsaw piece needed to complete the picture is none other than Patrick Tatopoulos, the Production Designer for Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice and Zack Snyder’s Justice League. Now, Zack Snyder is hoping his old friend would help him out on the third Rebel Moon film.

Save Martha or scrap her? The “Save Martha” moment in Zack Snyder’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice was divisive to say the least, with Bruce Wayne and Clark Kent having a connection that somehow changed the entire mood and gave them some common ground, ultimately snubbing what should have been one of the all-time great fights in superhero movie history. To some, it was a deep moment of confrontation over their mutual losses, a necessary inclusion that built on the mythology of each man. But to most of us, it was just about the hokiest thing imaginable.
Zack Snyder has been open in his understanding that the Martha scene in Batman v Superman may not work for everybody, but now he is again explaining why he decided to move forward with it. During the writing process, Snyder was told by co-writer Chris Terrio, “‘You know that [their] mothers have...

Zack Snyder revealed on the latest episode of the “Happy Sad Confused” podcast that he spoke to Leonardo DiCaprio about playing Lex Luthor in “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.” The role was ultimately played by Jesse Eisenberg. Snyder confirmed a rumor that he had a phone discussion with Adam Driver about Lex, but then dropped the scoop that he also courted DiCaprio.
Was DiCaprio intrigued? “I think so,” Snyder said. “He had a lot of great ideas actually, just in the meeting. I think in the end, he was like ‘Eh, I don’t know.’ But he was really smart about the material and really smart about the character.”
“He was the one that mentioned to me the idea about Superman fighting the Justice League at some point,” Snyder added, noting that it was a plot point he’d incorporate into his DC Universe in “Justice League.” “I was like,...

It’s no secret that Darkseid and Thanos are two of the most powerful and feared villains in the comic book universe. But with Avengers: Age of Ultron and Avengers: Infinity War’s phenomenal successes, one character in particular has emerged as a pop culture icon: The Mad Titan.
In the MCU films, Josh Brolin’s Thanos truly brought the dread, ferocity, spectacle, and shock factor when he assembled the Infinity Stones and snapped half of life away. However, the DC Universe and its heroes have also been afflicted by Darkseid. Naturally, Darkseid and Thanos have caused problems for the members of the primary superhero teams from DC (Justice League) and Marvel (Avengers) through their many battles. So who would win if Darkseid and Thanos faced off?

Kirsten Dunst’s Civil War has received positive reviews from critics who saw its premiere at the SXSW Festival on March 14. The film showcases the plight of journalists in a dystopian future when a Civil war shook America. Dunst plays the lead role of a journalist in this film directed by Alex Garland. “Jar Jar Binks makes the Ewoks look like fucking Shaft.” – Tim Bisley, Spaced, “Change” (2001).
Reviews for The Phantom Menace were, it’s fair to say, mixed. Looking back on it, that’s understandable. It’s a mixed film. After a lot of excitement and hype for the return of the game-changing franchise, some anti-climax was inevitable. 133 minutes and countless midi-chlorians later, a sense of disappointment gave way to rage for some.
Attack of the Clones had an improved, if not stellar, critical reception and Revenge of the Sith continued this trend to be recognized as the best of the three. That said, despite the upward trajectory there was a sense that these films would never recover from their initial mauling and that their lasting legacy would be their failure to recapture the magic of the Original Trilogy in a sustained way.

Oh, the untapped potential of Kylo Ren. "The Force Awakens" set up Adam Driver's new masked menace as the main antagonist of the trilogy after murdering his father, Han Solo, in cold blood. In "The Last Jedi," he flirted with redemption during that epic throne room battle before rejecting the Light altogether and taking his place as the new Supreme Chancellor of the First Order. In "The Rise of Skywalker," he frustratingly takes second billing once again to a bigger threat, this time Palpatine (you know the drill) -- until he hallucinates an entire conversation with his dead dad, flips a switch back to the side of the good guys at the last minute, and shares a weirdly rushed kiss with Rey (Daisy Ridley) before dying unceremoniously. Very few liked this abrupt turn of events and fans have wondered what went wrong ever since.

In one of the clunkiest lines of dialogue to emerge from a major studio motion picture in many a year, Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac) announced at the beginning of J.J. Abrams' sci-fi thriller "Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker" that "Somehow, Palpatine returned." Palpatine (Ian McDiarmid), as Starwoids will be able to tell you, was the evil Emperor who served a major role in the 1983 film "Return of the Jedi" and was revealed to be a manipulative rising tyrant throughout the events of the "Star Wars" prequel films released from 1999 to 2005. In terms of "Star Wars" chronology, Palpatine was last seen being thrown off of a catwalk, plummetting to his doom at the end of "Jedi."
The line "somehow, Palpatine returned" revealed how desperate the makers of "The Rise of Skywalker" were to excite audiences with little more than nostalgia imagery. The "somehow" even reveals that the screenwriters, Abrams and Chris Terrio,...

Ever since the Marvel Cinematic Universe became the most gigantic movie franchise in Hollywood history, many other studios smelled the money. They wanted to create the same sort of franchise with the characters they have rights to. Legendary Pictures managed to start MonsterVerse, and Universal Pictures tried to start Dark Universe, which was ultimately scrapped. However, Warner Bros. and their DC Studios (formerly known as DC Films) are the most interesting examples.
Following the cancelation of the ‘Superman Returns’ sequel and the critical and commercial failure of 2011’s Green Lantern, WB developed ‘Man of Steel,’ which was supposed to start the DC Extended Universe. The franchise was further developed through ‘Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice,’ ‘Suicide Squad’ and ‘Wonder Woman.’
However, with the release of 2017’s ‘Justice League,’ everything went down the hill. Despite the commercial success of ‘Aquaman,’ the franchise fell into a development hell without a real...

“I could have been a contender; I could have had class; I could have been somebody.” So lamented Marlon Brando in On the Waterfront, a movie about a dock worker who once aspired to be a prize fighter before taking a one-way ticket to Palookaville. It’s a distinct tragedy, yet it has a certain universality. It speaks for anyone who had greatness within reach—and then saw it slip away like so many Mother Boxes.
That last reference concerns a separate cinematic universe entirely: the Dceu (DC Extended Universe) which only a decade ago began with the highest ambitions and best of intentions. Ben Affleck had packed almost a century-worth of “Batman” mythos into a shelved DC script, according to former storyboard artist Jay Oliva.
Oliva, who left DC in 2017, teased in a recent interview with Inverse that Affleck’s take on “Batman” would have been an unprecedented interpretation of the Caped Crusader superhero.

There’s controversy and then there’s comic book movie controversy. While usually its concerning something more lighthearted like the internet losing their minds over some kind casting decision, we sometimes get the darker stuff. Like “shifting an entire studio’s heirarchy” level of craziness. From reported verbal abuse to alleged threatening of careers to a miserable Ben Affleck, there’s a lot of bad that came from Warner’s 2017 film. So today on DC Revisited, we’re diving into the moustache removing and tone lightening of Joss Whedon’s Justice League.

But I should state outright: we’ll deal with the Snyder Cut and all of that surrounded that in a future video. For now, we’ll just focus on the original filming period,...

Over Easter weekend, Amazon Studios opened Ben Affleck‘s “Air” nationwide in over 3,300 theaters after the movie received an enormous amount of buzz at its SXSW Film Festival premiere. The movie grossed over $20 million in its first five days and has now grossed over $33 million.

It's official — Daisy Ridley will return as Rey in a new "Star Wars" film. Set 15 years after the conclusion of the sequel trilogy, the film will feature the nobody scavenger turned Jedi Knight training a new generation of Jedi — fingers crossed this attempt goes better than Luke Skywalker's (Mark Hamill). The currently-untitled film was announced at the 2023 Star Wars Celebration; Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy is set to direct a script by Steven Knight.
I like Daisy Ridley as an actor. Now, admittedly, the only lead performance of hers I've seen is Rey. In that part, though, she exudes charisma and is plenty capable with meatier material too; she always gave the character emotional depth even when that wasn't on the page.
Still, it's hard for me to be excited about this because of where we last left off Rey's journey: 2019's "Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker," the finale of the...

Following the success of Man of Steel, Zack Snyder was off to the races with his vision of Superman. Warner Brothers looked at him and saw gold. And with Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy having wrapped up, the Batman character was officially free and clear. Is the screenplay a director’s medium? The Academy certainly seems to think so. Of the 10 Oscar-nominated screenplays this year, eight were written (or co-written) by the film’s director.
The nominees for best original screenplay are Martin McDonagh’s The Banshees of Inisherin, Daniels’ Everything Everywhere All at Once, Steven Spielberg’s The Fabelmans (co-written with Tony Kushner), Todd Field’s Tár and Ruben Östlund’s Triangle of Sadness. All five are nominated for best picture and also earned their helmers a best director nom.
The adapted screenplay category features three scripts credited to their films’ directors: All Quiet on the Western Front (written by director Edward Berger with Lesley Paterson and Ian Stokell), Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery (Rian Johnson, earning his second Oscar nom) and Women Talking (Sarah Polley). In the past, George Lucas himself has admitted that he's not exactly a wordsmith when it comes to movie dialogue. In 1999, just as the "Star Wars" prequel trilogy was getting underway with "The Phantom Menace," Lucas spoke at length to Empire magazine about his utilitarian attitude toward dialogue, saying things like, "I'm aware that dialogue isn't my strength," and, "I'd be the first person to say I can't write dialogue."
If he'd be the first, then Harrison Ford would surely be the second. An oft-repeated story about Ford and Lucas and clunky "Star Wars" dialogue involves the Han Solo actor telling the "New Hope" writer-director: "George, you can type this s***, but you can't say it." In 2017, with "The Force Awakens" in his rearview mirror, Ford elaborated on the origin of that quote and how it started out as a joke on set. He told GQ:

Even those who dislike Zack Snyder’s trilogy of DC Universe films have to admit that the director brought an idiosyncratic approach to those movies’ longstanding characters. For better or worse, his version of Superman and Batman stood apart from those found in comics, movies, and television. That is perhaps most true of Lex Luthor, the primary villain of Snyder’s second Dceu movie, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Played by Jesse Eisenberg, this Luthor not only sported a shaggy mane but also bounced off the walls with excitable energy. Where Gene Hackman and Kevin Spacey played Luthor as grandstanding misanthropes in previous feature films, Clancy Brown brought a simmering stoicism to his voice performance in various animated series, Eisenberg’s Luthor was an obnoxious tech-bro, an extroverted version of his portrayal of Mark Zuckerberg in The Social Network.
Like most things in the Dceu, Eisenberg’s Luthor met a great deal of criticism.

Director Zack Snyder's "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" is remembered for a great many things: Introducing Ben Affleck's Batman, the infamous "Martha" line, and bringing us Wonder Woman for the first time ever in a live-action movie. And also Batman and Superman do eventually get around to fighting. But another thing that comes up when you talk about this movie long enough is Snyder's characterization of Lex Luthor, with Jesse Eisenberg taking on the role of Superman's most infamous baddie.
Eisenberg's take on the character -- a long-haired, eccentric tech millionaire -- was far from what many fans had in mind. Of the many things that arguably went wrong in "Batman v Superman," this is at the top of the list for a lot of folks. In light of the negative reaction from many, Eisenberg revealed to Deadline that he isn’t exactly expecting to get called back for another movie, but would be happy if he was.

Among the bevy of criticisms about Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, one seemingly universal critique by fans was the questionable casting of Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor. Luthor is often portrayed as older and more physically intimidating in addition to his intellect, but Eisenberg was able to put his own spin on the character. Superman purists looked to have never fully embraced this interpretation.
Jesse Eisenberg recently screened his directorial debut, When You Finish Saving the World, at the 28th Sarajevo Film Festival and presented a Q&a afterward. “Batman and Robin will never die!” Those triumphant words, spoken in 2008’s Batman #676 by Grant Morrison and Tony S. Daniel, may have occurred in the comics, but they could apply to the movies as well. Case in point, despite numerous claims that he’s done with playing Batman after a cameo in The Flash, a recent Instagram post from Jason Momoa indicates that Ben Affleck will return as the Dark Knight for next year’s Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.
This, of course, raises several questions about the current state of the DC movie universe. After all, Robert Pattinson starred in The Batman just earlier this year, and Michael Keaton has been touted as the primary Batman in The Flash and Batgirl. Does the reunion of Affleck’s Bruce Wayne and Momoa’s Arthur Curry mean that the Snyderverse has indeed been restored?

Exclusive: Emmy-winning Succession star Jeremy Strong is set to headline and executive produce a limited series about Boeing’s controversial 737 Max planes. The untitled project, which is now in early development at Amazon Studios, hails from Oscar-winning Argo screenwriter Chris Terrio and Plan B.
Written by Terrio, the fictional series, which is targeted for Prime Video, is described as an examination of the events surrounding the Boeing 737 Max. It will reflect various perspectives, focusing on a composite engineer character, to be played by Strong.
Terrio and Strong will executive produce with Plan B, Karim Amer and Jehane Noujaim.

For the past 25 years, Variety editors and staff have compiled annual lists of industry talent to look out for, stretching various capacities, including directors, writers, producers, cinematographers, and comics. When looking back on the lists from each year, it’s striking to see how many impactful names have blossomed with hugely successful careers within Hollywood, and with some of the individuals taking a surprising route to stardom. It also underscores the innate ability of the Variety team to discover and take early note of the many talented people who have become entertainment icons over several generations.
The first 10 Actors to Watch list was released in 1998, with Luke Wilson (“Rushmore”), Sarah Polley (“Go!”), Adrien Brody (“The Thin Red Line”), Patricia Clarkson (“High Art”), Larenz Tate (“Why Do Fools Fall in Love?”), and Samantha Morton (“Under the Skin”) finding inclusion. Slanderous rumors to the contrary, Glenn Close says her show-stealing performance of Da Butt dance was not planned in advance, even if the comic bit immediately preceding the booty shake was scripted.
“I knew that Lil Rel was going to quiz me about Da Butt and all three guys helped me run through what I was to say,” Close posted on Instagram last night, referring to her Oscar tablemates Chris Terrio, Daniel Kaluuya and Darrell Britt-Gibson. “Darrell insisted that I mention the Backyard Band, on top of E.U., Suga Bear and the whole Dmv.
“I had googled ‘Da Butt’ and watched Spike’s music video so when Lil Rel asked if I could do the dance…you can actually see me think of the video. That part was completely spontaneous. Daniel, Darrell and Chris egged me on!!! It was All their fault.”

Over the weekend, Zack Snyder and various other “Justice League” folks got together for this year’s Justice Con. And while there was plenty to talk about regarding the superhero team-up film, particularly with the news that Ray Fisher wouldn’t mind coming back to the Dceu in the future, some of the more interesting conversations revolved around “Batman v. All is not well in the DC camp since the words given by screenwriter Chris Terrio make it clear that he wasn’t too fond of how Warner Bros. ‘sabotaged’ the Batman vs. Superman movie and gave it a title that was too long and didn’t make a lot of sense. So really, points to Terrio for pointing that last part out and even stating that the studio kind of bungled the movie by eliminating a half-hour from it. But to honest, someone writing a script for something that incorporates two of the most well-known and highly popular superheroes in the

Zack Snyder’s 2016 superhero film Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice was, famously, pretty dark. “Justice League” screenwriter Chris Terrio has called the theatrical version of the superhero movie an “act of vandalism.”
“The 2017 theatrical cut was an act of vandalism,” Terrio told Vanity Fair’s Anthony Breznican in a scathing interview published Thursday. “Zack [Snyder] may be too much of a gentleman to say that, but I’m not.”
Terrio added that after seeing the theatrical version, “I immediately called my lawyer and said, ‘I want to take my name off the film.’ [The lawyer] then called Warner Bros. and told them that I wanted to do that.”
Terrio would eventually stand down on removing his name from the movie. He explained, “It would be an international scandal and news story. So I shut up and I said nothing publicly. I’ve never said anything about ‘Justice League’ since then, but the movie doesn’t represent my work.”

Now that “Zack Snyder’s Justice League” has made its HBO Max debut, screenwriter Chris Terrio has come forward in an interview with Vanity Fair to sound off against Warner Bros. on their handling of Zack Snyder’s comic book tentpoles. Terrio, an Oscar-winning screenwriter thanks to “Argo,” was brought onto Snyder’s “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” at the request of Ben Affleck. Terrio stuck around for Snyder’s “Justice League,” only for Warner Bros. to overhaul his script once Snyder left and Joss Whedon boarded to oversee post-production and reshoots. Terrio called Whedon and Warner Bros.’ 2017 “Justice League” cut “an act of vandalism.”

Now that Warner Bros. has seen consistent success with its line of DC superhero movies, the future of the Dceu seems assured with a healthy slate of films on the horizon, and with the Snyder Cut of Justice League finally released into the wild, you would think it might be time to finally stop worrying about the franchise’s early missteps, notably the difficulty that Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice had getting out of the gate and the subsequent effect it had on Justice League.
But then screenwriter Chris Terrio comes along and delivers a bombshell interview to Vanity Fair that just seems destined to get people relitigating the events surrounding a movie that just recently celebrated its 5th anniversary.

Though for all intents and purposes, when you think of “Man of Steel,” “Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice,” and “Justice League,” the creator that springs to mind first and foremost is Zack Snyder. And as director, that’s definitely understandable. An unprecedented time. An unprecedented opportunity. An army of persuasive fans.
And one very colorful, newly-shot scene.
After four years, director Zack Snyder returns to the Dceu to complete his vision.
It’s a new era. Superman (Henry Cavill) is dead and a new villain channeling a very old evil has arrived. Honoring Superman’s sacrifice, Batman (Ben Affleck) and Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) must not only work together, but also unite an unlikely group of heroes – Cyborg (Ray Fisher), Aquaman (Jason Momoa), and The Flash (Ezra Miller) — to fight Steppenwolf, an eight-foot-tall warrior from the nightmare world of Apokolips who wants to conquer not only the Earth’s population but the planet’s entire existence.

The Snyder Cut finally has a release date.
Director Zack Snyder’s new version of the 2017 DC Comics superhero film “Justice League” will premiere on HBO Max on March 18, WarnerMedia announced on Friday.
“Justice League” brought together DC Comics’ greatest heroes for the first time ever on the big screen. Superman (Henry Cavill), Batman (Ben Affleck), Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot), Aquaman (Jason Momoa), the Flash (Ezra Miller) and Cyborg (Ray Fisher) joined forces to prevent the supervillain Steppenwolf from destroying the Earth.
However, reviews from critics and comic book fans alike were mostly negative for the 2017 film, which was primarily directed by Joss Whedon after Snyder had to drop out due to a family emergency. Many viewers noticed the tonal shifts between the directors and called for the release of the rumored Snyder Cut — a version of the film with Snyder’s original vision.
