The International Cinematographers Guild (IATSE Local 600) named Alex Tonisson as its new National Executive Director Saturday afternoon during a meeting of its Executive Board in Los Angeles.
Initially hired as the Western Region Director of the Guold in June 2019, Tonisson is described as a 19-year vet of the labor movement. He has served as the interim National Executive Director (Ned) since early May, succeeding interim Ned Chaim Kantor and former Icg National Director Rebecca Rhine. In the role, Tonisson will be responsible for advancing the Guild’s interests during what they described today as a “period of disruption, change, and opportunity for the television and motion picture industry.”
Tonisson will lead critical negotiations on behalf of the Icg and administer the guild’s local agreement with producers. He will also supervise a full-time staff of more than 65 employees and work closely with other IATSE Local and International chapters to drive progress for the union.

After four weeks of bargaining, IATSE’s negotiations with management’s AMPTP for a new film and TV contract have broken off with no deal and “very little progress” toward reaching one, union officials said on Friday.
The talks got underway May 17 and aren’t scheduled to resume until July 6. The contract, which covers the union’s 13 West Coast production locals, doesn’t expire until July 31, so there’s still plenty of time to reach an agreement.
Negotiations originally had been scheduled to last only two weeks.
“Very little progress has been made since we resumed this Monday,” leaders of the Cinematographers Guild, IATSE Local 600, said in a communique to members Friday afternoon. “On Wednesday, we did not even meet, and today bargaining was suspended altogether until early July.”
“Although we continue to press the employers to develop proposals that address our priorities, we remain far apart in the most important areas,...

Prospect Park has resolved a labor dispute with the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees Locals working on the sets of "All My Children" and "One Life To Live." The tiff between the production company and the stage hands' union had caused an early hiatus for the two former ABC soaps. Prospect Park, which owns the OnLine Network, and Iatse Locals 52, 161, 600, 700, 764, 798 and USA829 announced the deal Thursday. Speaking on behalf of the New York production locals, Local 600 Representative David Blake stated: "We are pleased that that the parties were able to successfully address their concerns in a mutually beneficial way, which will enable these innovative shows to continue to be produced with our talented crews." "We thank the entire I.A.T.S.E. organization for their continued support in bringing these shows to fans, and we especially appreciate the efforts of Chaim Kantor and John Ford and our entire...
