Who will be included for the special “In Memoriam” segment for Sunday night’s Oscars 2022 ceremony? For almost all other Academy Awards productions since the 1990s, producers typically select 40-50 people from the various branches. The 2021 segment had close to 100 people in a particularly fast-paced three minutes that was not very well-received since many of them were only on screen for a second or two.

Richard Kelly is the man. Not just because he'll be here all this week, posting as a guest editor for MTV Movies Blog. It helps, sure, but we're talking about the guy who made "Donnie Darko" here. And "Southland Tales." Isn't that enough? Not for Kelly it isn't. His latest brain-twisting tale, "The Box," hits theaters on November 6. And he has a dynamite week of content planned for y'all, so sit back and enjoy!

What do you do with an Oscar-nominated actor for his follow-up role? If you’re me – you convince him to remove half of his face.
For those of you who have seen "The Box" trailer (opening November 6th!) -- or seen a television spot – you might notice that Mr. Langella does not look like his normal handsome self in this film.
That’s because we removed half of his face using state-of-the-art CGI.

Yesterday came the yearly announcement from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences as it extended 134 invitations to several artists and executives "who have distinguished themselves by their contributions to theatrical motion pictures" read the press release. Of course all of them can decline, but I wouldn't necessarily expect that to happen as all who accept the invitation will be the only additions in 2009 to the Academy's roster of voting members. "These filmmakers have, over the course of their careers, captured the imagination of audiences around the world," said Academy President Sid Ganis. "It's this kind of talent and creativity that make up the Academy, and I welcome each of them to our ranks." The list follows below and reading around the best analysis I saw of it came from Nathaniel Rogers at The Film Experience who, among other things, pointed out the addition of longtime Darren Aronofsky's...

On Tuesday, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences issued invitations to 134 members of the film community to join the group. There were a maximum of 166 open slots to fill this year, but the various branch committees endorsed fewer candidates than were proposed to them.
Hugh Jackman, who hosted the most recent Oscar show, has been invited to join. So have Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, James Franco and Michelle Williams. The list even includes a number of comic performers like Michael Cera, Seth Rogan and Paul Rudd.
Voting membership in the organization has held steady at just under 6,000 members since 2003.
New members will be welcomed into the Academy at an invitation-only reception at the Academy's Fairbanks Center for Motion Picture Study in Beverly Hills in September.

Roy Scheider died before Iron Cross filming ended - but a make-up expert and a latex mask saved the show
When film star Roy Scheider died last year, a crucial scene in the action film he was making had not yet been completed. The film-makers' unique answer was to build a prosthetic latex mask based on Scheider's distinctive features and to use it, along with computer-generated imagery, to bring the lead actor back to life for one last performance.
Scheider, who was renowned for his portrayal of tough cops, made his name in the 1970s with central roles in Jaws and The French Connection. The 75-year-old star's death, which was marked last night at a big Hollywood memorial gathering, had left the English director of the unfinished revenge thriller, Iron Cross, facing a big problem. But Joshua Newton hopes his film has survived disaster thanks to his collaboration with Louis Lazzara,...

Late actor Roy Scheider will appear on the silver screen for the final time in upcoming movie Iron Cross - three months after his death.
The actor, who was best known for playing police chief Martin Brody in the Jaws franchise, was just one scene away from completing his last film before dying of multiple myeloma, a cancer of the plasma cells, earlier this year.
But movie bosses will resurrect the star with the help of a prosthetic mask and a stand-in actor in a bid to finish the film, reports New York gossip column PageSix.
A source tells the publication, "The casting director is working with top Hollywood make-up artist and prosthetic latex mask-maker Louis Lazzara.
"(He'll) create a perfect replica of Scheider's face and ensure the final scene can be completed with the use of a stand-in actor."...
