Hollywood has seen success with reviving popular films and TV shows rather than inventing new ideas. One 1960s TV Western ripe for a reboot, The Big Valley, was set to be remade as a feature-length film. Some parts had already been cast, including A-list actors. However, the director landed in hot water over previous indiscretions, and the movie never began shooting. Here’s what happened to the failed Big Valley reboot.

A theatrical reboot of The Big Valley was proposed in 2010. Susan Sarandon was first considered for the lead role. Jessica Lange was also considered for the part. Other actors slated for the cast were Ryan Phillippe, Richard Dreyfuss, and Bruce Dern. It was to be remade as an indie feature by filmmakers Daniel Adams and Kate Edelman Johnson, MeTV reported.

A slew of top-notch directors, producers and stars is set to make the trek to the fifth edition of the Filming Italy Sardegna Festival, which combines film and TV and is stepping up efforts to serve as a collective celebration of the Italian and global industry’s restart spirit.
Since Italy’s box office returns are sputtering due to audience aversion to wearing a mask in theaters, Tiziana Rocca, chief of this unique event, is adding an open-air venue with a giant screen at its main hub, the Forte Village resort near Cagliari, capital of the emerald island of Sardinia (Sardegna in Italian).
“Seeing movies in the open air is a different thrill, especially for younger audiences that have been rebelling against mandatory masks in movie theaters,” Rocca says.
Accordingly, the June 9-12 fest will open with the Italian premiere of Universal’s crowd-pleaser “Jurassic World Dominion” in its new outdoor Piazza Forte Cinema.

Irish Catholic police officer Bill Coughlin believes in the right thing enough to attempt to do it, when in 1974, he is assigned to protect Black children being bused to a high school in South Boston. We know of his public service bent because of what happens when he apprehends a shoplifter outside a Black-owned food market early in the well-meaning, if wrong-headed feature “The Walk,” starring Justin Chatwin as Coughlin. He cuts the guy a break, even though the mart’s owner isn’t nearly as sympathetic. The exchange between cop and thief isn’t all Kum Ba Yah, but it is intended to signal Coughlin’s decency. When it comes to walking the walk, Bill Coughlin may prove to be the real deal. As for “The Walk,” the film’s insights about racism come as familiar baby steps.

“Panama,” the latest offering from The Mel Gibson Movie of the Month Club, is the sort of instantly disposable action-thriller that wears its cynicism on its sleeve while laboring to grab attention with quick-cut visuals. Those combine with more gratuitous nudity than you can shake a stick at — without, it should be noted, any sticks — to goose a narrative that is tediously predictable when not borderline incoherent. It is notable primarily for the presence of Cole Hauser, star of TV’s phenomenally popular “Yellowstone,” who earns his top billing by doing most of the heavy lifting for his sporadically glimpsed but frequently heard co-star.
In terms of facilitating a transition from television to features, “Panama” may do more for Hauser than, say, “Macho Callahan” ever did for David Janssen. Hauser fully commits to his role as Becker, an ex-Marine who free-lances for the CIA, using his macho charm, intimidating snarl,...

The film, starring Justin Chatwin and Terrence Howard, will be released in theaters and digitally on June 10.
“The Walk” follows Bill Coughlin, a Boston Irish cop, who must contend with social pressure and bigotry in his neighborhood and within the police force after being assigned to protect Black students bused into the all-white South Boston High. The plot chronicles the political and social fallout following the court’s 1974 decision, which resulted in brutal violence and city-wide protests, as three stories collide during the fateful first day of school. The Securities and Exchange Commission on Tuesday said it has charged director Daniel Adams with fraud in connection to his 2018 film “An L.A. Minute.”
In a Tuesday filing, the SEC accused Adams, along with music producer Michael Flanders, of defrauding two investors and inducing them to invest $160,000 through two companies Adams and Flanders co-founded together: Spiderworx Media LLC and An L.A. Minute LLC.
They obtained the investments, the SEC said, by using a “pattern of lies and deception.”
“Adams and Flanders made multiple material misrepresentations and omissions to at least two investors to induce their investments in defendants’ securities offerings,” the filing reads. “By lying to and misleading these investors, each of the defendants has violated the antifraud provisions of Section 10(b) of the Exchange Act and Rule 10b5(b) thereunder and Section 17(a)(2) of the Securities Act.”

"She's not interested in money." Strand Releasing has debuted an official trailer for a film titled An L.A. Minute, from writer/director Daniel Adams. More importantly, the film stars the very talented up-and-coming actress Kiersey Clemons, who also appears in Hearts Beat Loud - which is now playing in theaters (go see it!). In this film, Clemons plays "an avant-garde performance artist" who befriends a best-selling author who wants to write more personal books rather than the stuff that got him famous. Gabriel Byrne (seen in Hereditary) also co-stars in this film about celebrity and fame and how it works and how fake it all is. The cast includes Bob Balaban, Katherine Kendall, Ed Marinaro, Ned Bellamy, Brianna Baker, Jake Adams, and Ash Adams. Doesn't look that great. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for Daniel Adams' An L.A. Minute, direct from YouTube: An L.A. Minute is a satirical look at fame,...

Director Daniel Adams and music producer Michael Flanders have teamed up to launch Spiderworx Media, a $50 million fund created to produce theatrical films and serve as both a music publisher and P&A fund. Flanders, the former head of A&R of Arctic/BMG Australia and an award-winning music producer in both Australia and Nashville, raised the capital for the new company through his previous investors in the music publishing world. Adams will service the creative end of the business, directing most of the projects that Spiderworx produces and hiring other directors for the rest, though all will be produced by Flanders.

This story first appeared in the March 7 issue of The Hollywood Reporter magazine. Near the end of 2009, Daniel Adams was desperate to finish his latest movie. But the filmmaker behind the period romance The Lightkeepers, starring Richard Dreyfuss and Blythe Danner, was running out of money well before shooting ended. Instead of shutting down production, Adams submitted fraudulent documents to score at least $4.7 million from inflated claims for Massachusetts tax credits on Lightkeepers and another film. He was caught, pleaded guilty to 10 counts related to embezzlement and, in 2012, became the first Hollywood figure to

Actor Peter Breck (right, in Shock Corridor), best known for his role as the short-tempered Nick Barkley in the 1960s television series The Big Valley, died Monday, Feb. 6, in Vancouver. Breck, who had been suffering from dementia, was 82. Though mostly a TV actor (Black Saddle, Maverick, The Fall Guy), Breck also appeared in about 20 movies. The most notable among those was probably Samuel Fuller's thriller Shock Corridor (1963), in which he plays a journalist who commits himself to a mental institution in order to solve a murder. Additionally, Breck was featured in Joe Camp's blockbuster Benji (1974), about a stray dog who rescues two kidnapped children. Breck's other features were minor fare. Those included Herbert L. Strock's The Crawling Hand (1963), about the hand of a dead astronaut that spends its time strangling the living, plus Highway 61 (1991), Decoy (1995), Lulu (1996), and Jiminy Glick in Lalawood (2004).
