Marvel’s X-Men ’97 was filled with unexpected twists and turns, yet it has been one glorious ride for all Marvel fans. After years of having a love-hate relationship with Fox’s X-Men movies, fans were hopeful that Marvel Studios would bring them a more comic-book-faithful version of the mutants after Disney acquired Fox.
X-Men ’97 (Credits: Marvel Animation)
Not only is X-Men ’97 faithful to the source but its nostalgic theme and ties with the original X-Men: The Animated Series make it one hell of a show to watch. With the season one finale approaching fast, creator and showrunner Beau DeMayo took to his X account to share a bit of assignment for fans of the show.
In his recent tweet, DeMayo revealed that every fan of the mutant tale should prep and watch these 6 episodes of X-Men: The Animated Series before watching the 3-part season finale, Tolerance is Extinction.

Marvel announced at New York Comic Con that they have started production on an animated series for Guardians of the Galaxy! News of this first popped up earlier in the year, and it's great to see that it's actually happening. The series is coming to Disney Xd in 2015! The announcement came from Jeph Loeb, Marvel's Head of Television, and we even have some cool test footage for you to check out that gives us a good idea of what we can expect from the series.
The series stars Peter Quill, aka Star-Lord, "the brash adventurer who, to save the universe from its greatest threats, joins forces with a quartet of disparate misfits – fan-favorite Rocket Raccoon, a tree-like humanoid named Groot, the enigmatic, expert fighter Gamora and the rough-edged warrior Drax the Destroyer."

Transformers: Robots in Disguise place years after “Transformers Prime,” when Bumblebee is summoned to save Earth from a new faction of Decepticons and assembles a rogue team of young Autobots that includes a rebel bad boy bot, an elite guard cadet, a bombastic Dinobot and hyperactive Mini-Con to capture their new enemies. Each new bot is a fully capable action hero but inexperienced in working together in a team, forcing Bumblebee to become both squad leader and coach, Hasbro said. The show will feature voice actors such as Darren Criss, Constance Zimmer, Mitchell Whitfield and Ted McGinley. Also from the article: "[the] creative team includes kids programming vets Jeff Kline (“Transformers Prime”) as executive producer; producer Adam Beechen (“The Adventures of Chuck and Friends”); and Steven Melching, a writer on “Star Wars: The Clone Wars,” who will serve as the show’s story editor. - Variety...

Two weeks from now Sdcc 2013 will be winding down, so are there enough horror offerings to entice attendees back to the show for Day 4 (July 21)? With "Supernatural" kicking things off bright and early, we say, "Yes!"
Also on the schedule for Sunday (traditionally the family-themed day of the event) are "Under the Dome," an update on the adaptation of George R.R. Martin's werewolf/Pi/serial killer mashup novella The Skin Trade, a chance to build your own monster, surviving in a post-apocalyptic world, a Neil Gaiman Spotlight panel, a look at what's coming from Diamond Select Toys, a how-to on creating suspenseful, exciting, anxiety-inducing stories, and per usual, a screening of "Buffy the Musical: Once More with Feeling" to close things out.
Since the horror offerings are so light, we've expanded our Day 4 highlights list to cover such topics as the future of sci-fi novels, the 50th anniversary of "Doctor Who,...

There's always one day during the Sdcc when you just shake your head, laugh, and say, "This schedule is ridiculous." Saturday, July 20th, is shaping up to be that day this year.
Horror fans will have a lot of choices to make as the "Bates Motel" panel battles the one-two punch of Godzilla and Seventh Son. Later in the day you'll be faced with choosing to learn more about "True Blood," Telltale's The Walking Dead video game, or "Being Human." Right now 20th Century Fox's presentation that runs at the same time remains "To Be Announced," but once details are revealed, we'll provide an update.
Other panels vying for your attention throughout the day are "The Originals," "Grimm," I, Frankenstein teamed with The Hunger Games: Catching Fire (that combination should make for some interesting audience reactions), a look at gameplay from Dead Rising 3 on the Xbox One, more games, comics,...

The Movie Pool rolls out for the Transformers Prime: Season Two Blu-ray set!
This review is based on the 4-disc Blu-ray set
The Set-up
Season two of the epic Hub TV show focuses on the battle between rival factions of an alien race of robots known as Transformers. Optimus Prime and the heroic Autobots take on Megatron and the evil Decepticons. Includes all 26 episodes of the second season.
The Delivery
There have been so many incarnations of Transformers over the years, but Generation One, the original series, still holds a special place in the hearts of hard core fans. Transformers Prime, however, may eventually become the definitive version of the brand. Combining the best aspects of the original 1980s animated series (including the voices of Peter Cullen as Optimus Prime and Frank Welker as Megatron) with the look and music cues of the modern films, Transformers Prime is a...

The Movie Pool rolls out the new Transformers Prime: One Shall Stand DVD!
The Set-up
Megatron joins forces with the Autobots to battle Unicron, whose presence threatens every life on Earth.
The Delivery
This epic story arc includes seven episodes of Transformers Prime, and is better than any of the plots for the Transformers movies. Incredibly well written, the storyline is intelligent and told with plenty of drama and emotion, something other incarnations of Transformers have failed to do.
CGI animation often feels a bit cold and calculated, devoid of a soul. When it comes to animated robots, the emotional disconnection can be even more apparent. The Prime incarnation manages to work thanks to combination of great writing and good voice acting. Sure, these are still a bunch of robots blowing stuff up, but you connect with their personalities and like them.

Transformers truly are a toy and movie franchise that bridge generation gaps. As a 28-year old industry, it gives parents who grew up with the "Robots in Disguise" a way to geek out with their children. The Autobots and Decepticons are more popular now than they've ever been after three blockbuster movies and a successful weekly CG television series still airing. Shout! Factory's Transformers Prime: One Shall Stand is made up of seven episodes of that successful show melded together into one seamless film.
Humankind is once again threatened by Megatron and his Decepticons as the diabolical leader continues to seek for the way to unlock the powers of Dark Energon. Optimus Prime and the Autobots must come head to head with the evil robots before Megatron can discover its full potential. At the same time, a more sinister threat is discovered at the center of the Earth... Unicron.

Sunday July 15th is the last day of Comic-Con 2012, and most of us will be completely worn out looking like Spider-Man in the image above. Chances are he's asleep under that mask. Sunday has always been a cool down day for us, we kind of just try to relax a little bit more and enjoy it. That doesn't mean their isn't anything to see or do though!
We've got a Fringe screening and Q&A, Doctor Who, Buffy the Vampire Slayer 20th Anniversary, Sons of Anarchy, the annual Buffy the Vampire Slayer musical screening, and more! I've always wanted to go the Buffy musical sing-a-long, but am usually trying to leave San Diego before it starts.
Just a little reminder, we will be having our annual GeekTyrant meet up this year to meet our readers, which is something we always enjoy doing! That will take place on Wednesday night, and...

Another day, another schedule for the 2012 San Diego Comic-Con. Next up is Day 3 - Saturday, July 14th - which is just about as chock-full of events for the horror crowd as Friday the 13th!
As always, our focus is the horror panels, but included are a few others that we think will be of interest as well. Remember that times and participants are subject to change so keep your eyes on the official Sdcc site for updates. And hopefully they'll provide a fix soon for the Sdcc smartphone app - in years past it's been extremely helpful.
10:00-11:00 Comic-Con How-To: Anatomy of a Fight Scene, Part One— Stories are about conflict, and there is no purer form of conflict than a good ol' fisticuffs-style brawl-or sword fight, laser battle, western shootout, or even two chicks pulling each other's hair. How do you put that much action down on...

2012 will be the first year that GeekTrant will invade WonderCon, mostly due to the fact that it was moved down to Anaheim, CA this year which is right in our backyard. We're all pretty excited about attending this year, as we've heard it's a much smaller more intimate version of San Diego Comic Con.
WonderCon is set to open on Friday, March 16th and run through Sunday, March 18th at the Anaheim Convention Center. If you plan on attending let us know, and maybe we can meet up and hang out for a bit!
I've put stars next to the panels we are interested in attending. Check out the schedule, and let us know what you are looking forward to seeing most!

Comic-Con International has released the full schedule for Sunday July 24th for San Diego Comic-Con 2011. This is the final day of the convention. Sunday is known as Kids day and is usually the slowest of all the days, there are a few surprises though. In all my years of going to Comic-Con I've never been to a panel in Hal H. Usually nothing is happening in Hall H on Sunday, this year there are a few TV programs going on in Hall H such a as Glee, Supernatural, Doctor Who, The Cleveland Show, Sons of Anarchy, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and this year Buffy the Musical will be in the great Hall as well. I've never been to the Buffy Musical event, and I think I finally want to go this year. A couple of other things worth noting are a one on one panel with Nathan Fillion, and Max Brooks talks about zombies.

It may be the second to last day of Comic Con, but things are far from slowing down. In fact, both movies and TV are in great supply the Saturday of the show. Maybe even to abundant...surely attendees and press alike will be making sacrifices as they pick and choose which events to see. Make your decision after the jump.
10:00-10:45 Chuck Screening and Q&A— Comic-Con fan-favorite Chuckreturns with a bang for its farewell panel to celebrate its fifth and final season. Executive producer and co-creator Chris Fedak, along with series stars Zachary Levi (Alvin and the Chipmunks), Yvonne Strahovski(upcoming My Mother's Curse), Joshua Gomez (Without a Trace), Ryan McPartlin, Mark Christopher Lawrence (The Pursuit of Happyness), Vik Sahay (Good Will Hunting), Scott Krinsky (The O.C.) with Sarah Lancaster(The Good Doctor), and Adam Baldwin (Serenity), offer a Q&A with fans and an unforgettable video presentation.

“Chi Eekway and Che Amanwa, Chairman Papanoida’s daughters, are kidnapped and held for ransom. Ahsoka Tano teams up with the Senator from Pantora, Riyo Chuchi, to aid the new chairman in recovering his family before the Trade Federation can unduly influence the future of his planet.

With Iron Man 2 opening on Friday, everyone has decided to jump on the comics bandwagon and is flooding the shelves this week with Marvel-related fare. Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment joins in the fun with the two-disc X-Men Volume 5, completing the classic 1990s animated collection.
The 14 episodes presented here are in airdate order and span 1996-1997 and seasons four and five of the Fox series, which has remained the longest running Marvel animated title. The show was incredibly faithful to the source material, with former X-editor and then-Editor-in-Chief Bob Harras working as a story consultant. The show also had the unqiue aspect of having lengthy sub-plots allowing breadth and depth of subject matter most animated fare previously could not enjoy.
Comparing this to the adaptations of the same stories by the more current Wolverine and the X-Men shows the greater freedoms taken by the new creative staff—and not always for the better.

Title: "The Zillo Beast Strikes Back"
Writer / Director: Steve Melching / Steward Lee
Tagline: "The most dangerous beast is the beast within."
Story: The plot thread begun last week on Malastare with the fearsome, lightsaber-proof Zillo Beast continue this week... on the populous planet of Coruscant. In a poorly calculated plan to harness the beast's indestructibility for the Republic Army's use, Chancellor Palpatine orders the creature be brought to the same city-world where the government's seat of power presides. Don't they have monster movies a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away? We can be happy they don't, because the chaos that ensues contributes to one of the best episodes this series has seen.
"Gojira!": "The Zillo Beast Strikes Back" is clearly inspired by giant-monster-wreaking-havoc-on-city movies in the vein of "Godzilla," "King Kong" and, more recently, "Cloverfield." "Kong" is the closest comparison as the Zillo is painted as a tragic figure.
