With Camp X-Ray hitting theaters this weekend, Kristen Stewart is finally exploring life beyond Twilight. The indie drama, which tells the story of one soldier stationed at Guantanamo Bay detention camp, is a far cry from Bella and the world of vampires Stewart became so famous for over the past five years. During that time, Stewart became pigeonholed and often hated on for her participation in The Twilight Saga. And for those who only know those films are doing themselves a disservice. Her latest film — the first of three high profile films she has coming out this year — has earned the actress accolades on the festival circuit and reminded many of the promise she showed in roles, such as Sarah Altman in Panic Room or Emily in Adventureland. It’s those films that fans (and the haters) should watch if they want to restore their faith in Stewart.

hollywoodnews.com: Today, actress Kristen Stewart of “Twilight” fame finally turns 21. The child star turned serious actress has played in twenty-two released films spanning the past eleven years, and is confirmed for another six projects set to release between now and 2014.
Her first credited role came in 2001 when she played Sam Jennings in “The Safety of Objects”. In 2002, she co-starred with Jodie Foster as Sarah Altman in “Panic Room”, a role which won her status as a more serious child actor.
Though the next several years saw her mostly in minor roles, she often chose young characters dealing with mature issues. Films that saw her in more prominent roles, such as “Speak”, “The Cake Eaters”, and “Welcome to the Rileys” dealt more directly with loss of innocence themes.
Despite her current star power, which gives her access to big-budget mainstream roles, Stewart has shown a preference for complex characters in smaller films.

Finding herself receiving more media attention ever since she starred as Sarah Altman in 2002 film "Panic Room", Kristen Stewart says she is grateful that she started her acting career early on. She credits her early fame to have given her the ability to cope with the pressures of fame during her adolescence.
"I think that if I had started now or just a couple of years ago, after the age of 14, if I had waited two more years, I would be wrought. I couldn't deal with the scrutiny," says the 19-year-old movie star. "I feel like starting out as a teenager may not have been as good. I conquered fears at a young age because I wasn't considering them, I just took them for whatever."

Kristen Jaymes Stewart was but a newborn babe in arms on April 9, 1990. John and Jules Stewart brought her into the world on that day and bestowed her with that daring namesake. Eighteen years later, that very name would be one echoing from gleeful mouths across the globe - as she would make her way around to promote the world-renowned film she took the challenging lead in. Kristen Stewart’s advance to the metaphorical top has not been instantaneous, by a long shot, but her role in 2008’s Twilight would ring in not only her first year of adulthood, but also, it seems, a whole new professional lifestyle. Her start was ambitious, but Stewart’s beginnings in film were impressive, indeed. At eleven, Stewart took her first role in a film called The Safety Of Objects. Portraying Sam Jennings, that little lady stole the stage as an angst-ridden know-it-all that many eleven-year-olds find themselves to be.
