Ending the year in signs is the hilarious, adventurous, sharp-tongued era of Sagittarius.
There’s truly nothing like them. They are quirky, mysterious and full of life. While they naturally grab the attention in the room, they feel most comfortable when they’re in their lonesome.
Sagittarius is the jack-of-trades sign; the sign that takes up space in every all industries — whether they be an actor, comedian or a bus driver — their versatility allows them to do it all. And that flexibility helps fuel their “I’ll try anything once” mindset. To them, what is life if you’re not living it to your fullest? The only thing you have to beware of is their slick mouth. Between Sagittarius, Virgo and Aries it’s hard to tell which sign is more brutally honest. Truly, to know Sagittarius is to love them. And if you don’t love…it doesn’t...

Boyz II Men, the legendary R&b group, has been a staple in the music industry for over 30 years. They have sold millions of albums, won multiple awards, and have become an iconic part of ’90s pop culture. One of their most memorable television appearances was on the hit sitcom The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. In a 2021 interview, one of the group members revealed that their appearance on the show was like “hanging with homies.”

Nearly a quarter century after NBC sitcom “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” ended its six-season run, filmmaker Morgan Cooper uploaded a mock trailer for a dramatic reimagining of the series to YouTube, where it has since gained over seven million views. The video’s popularity soon led to the reboot idea becoming a reality in the form of Peacock series “Bel-Air,” which premiered this February. Cooper (who produces the show and directed and wrote part of its first season) recently participated in a 2022 Emmys FYC panel along with showrunners/executive producers T.J. Brady and Rasheed Newson and actors Akira Akbar, Jimmy Akingbola, Jabari Banks, Cassandra Freeman, Adrian Holmes and Coco Jones, moderated by Justin Sylvester from E! News. Watch the video Q&a above.

Adrian Holmes had big shoes to fill in his role as Uncle Phil in the new Peacock series “Bel-Air.” The role was originated by James Avery in “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air,” and it was important for Holmes to not try and replicate the specifics of his predecessor’s performance, despite the series being a dramatic variation of the iconic ’90s sitcom. “What the show runners and [creator] Morgan Cooper wanted us to do was to not feel that we had to reenact or do what they did,” says Holmes in an exclusive new interview for Gold Derby. “They wanted us to take the reins and have fun and create these characters as authentic as we could for this generation.”

No matter what it turned out to actually be, “Bel-Air” was always going to raise some eyebrows by its premise alone. As every network and streaming service scrambles to make the best (or at least most) use of their in-house IP, a grim reboot of “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” for Peacock sounds like something ripped straight from a “30 Rock” joke about NBC trying to make it 1990 again through science or magic. Transforming the neon flair of the popular Will Smith sitcom into a flashy drama could be the inevitable nadir of the Hollywood reboot machine going through its recyclables. But in 2022, there are far worse and stranger inspirations for shows than older ones that succeeded — and at least in its first three episodes, “Bel-Air” proves itself far from the worst offender.

For most kids of the 1980s, it was a big moment when they realized that the actor who played Uncle Phil on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air also voiced Shredder on the popular cartoon, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. And James Avery loved witnessing the lightbulb go on.
In an interview given years ago, the beloved sitcom and voice actor — who was born this day in 1945 — talked about seeing that reaction and also about how seriously he took the role of Shredder, making it a point to note the cartoon was not merely a gig.

The prince of Bel-Air is now the king of tell-alls. From wanting to date his co-star Karyn Parsons (Hilary Banks), to making the decision to end The Fresh Prince of Bel–Air, Will Smith shares shocking secrets from his life and career in his new memoir, Will. The hit sitcom, starring Smith, Parsons, Alfonso Ribeiro, Tatyana Ali, Daphne Reid and James Avery, premiered in 1990 and aired until 1996, when we said goodbye to the beloved Banks family. In his memoir, Smith explains that there was good reason for the show to end after six seasons. "The storylines were becoming increasingly hokey and it was difficult to maintain the 'Freshness,'" the actor writes in his...

Peacock’s dramatic reboot of “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” has found its Will. Jabari Banks will take over the title role that Will Smith originated in the ’90s-era sitcom.
Like Smith (and has on-screen fictionalized version of himself), Banks is from West Philadelphia. The unknown actor is fresh out of college; he only graduated from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia in 2020.
Here’s the official description for the one-hour drama, titled “Bel-Air,” which received a two-season order at Peacock last September:
“Set in modern-day America, ‘Bel-Air’ is a serialized one-hour dramatic analogue of the ’90s sitcom ‘The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air’ that leans into the original premise: Will’s complicated journey from the streets of West Philadelphia to the gated mansions of Bel-Air. With a reimagined vision, ‘Bel-Air’ will dive deeper into the inherent conflicts, emotions and biases that were impossible to fully explore in a 30-minute sitcom format,...

Peacock’s “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” reboot has undergone its second showrunner switch, TheWrap has learned.
The show, which is a dramatic update on the classic ’90s sitcom starring Will Smith, has seen the exits of original showrunner Chris Collins, who left in December over creative differences, and of his replacement showrunner, Diane Houston, who has now herself stepped away.
The series, which is based on Morgan Cooper’s viral YouTube video and is produced by Smith, is now on its third showrunner, this time deciding to bring in two leaders: co-showrunners T.J. Brady and Rasheed Newson.
Casting has not yet begun for the reboot.

One of the first times I left my house during quarantine last year was a rare drive to the office to record a virtual panel. But this one was extra special: a reunion of the cast of “Community,” along with creator Dan Harmon. I knew the show’s fans were eager to see the gang from Greendale — including Donald Glover, who never does these things anymore — table-read an episode and answer questions about the show’s legacy (and if the long-rumored movie would ever happen). And I didn’t want to let my janky internet connection interrupt something that so many people, stuck at home in the middle of a pandemic, wanted to see.
It was a treat, and stirred the internet as we had hoped. It also came at the start of a yearlong nostalgia binge, as the casts and producers of shows both big and obscure came together,...

The most shocking revelation of the “Friends” reunion might be that the actors — now six of the most famous in the world — never met until their first table read. From their very first moments swapping jokes and stories around the squashy chairs of Central Perk in 1993, the chemistry between Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry and David Schwimmer was so immediate and so natural that it became very easy for audiences to imagine not just that they were friends, but their friends, too. Recapturing that spark in a reunion special 17 years after the series finale without the smokescreens of their characters, though, would be another challenge entirely.
The special acknowledges this approximately one second in with a title card — scrawled in the “Friends” credits font, naturally — to inform us that, since the series finale, “the six cast members have been in a room all together only once … until today.

Television cast reunions, like many exercises in nostalgia, can easily come across as indulgent and unnecessary. But, more than two decades after subverting its slapstick premise with frequently profound takes on race, class and family, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air is still defying norms.

It finally happened, everyone: Will Smith and Janet Hubert have reconciled. On Nov. 18, HBO Max dropped The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air's reunion special, which united former castmates Will Smith, Tatyana Ali, Karyn Parsons, Joseph Marcell, Daphne Maxwell Reid, Alfonso Ribeiro, and DJ Jazzy Jeff. During the gathering, the group reminisced on their best-loved scenes, off-camera moments, and their favorite memories of late costar James Avery. But the main event, of course, was Smith and Hubert's sit-down conversation and moment of resolution.
"I was no longer laughing, smiling, joking because there were things that [were] going on that nobody knew about. The cast had no idea what was going on."
It's no secret that Hubert's 1993 departure from The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air wasn't amicable. During the reunion special, she opened up about everything that led up to her decision to leave the show. "Something I would like to clarify is during...

Nostalgia, Don Draper once pointed out, derives from a Greek word for “pain from an old wound.” Television is awash in nostalgic revivals, reboots, and reunions, but they’re borne out of a far more recent pain: the difficulty any program or streaming service has getting your attention in a 500-show universe. If a new title can’t get noticed, best to bring back an old one. CBS All Access dusted off Jean-Luc Picard, after already launching with a Star Trek spin-off, Star Trek: Discovery. I don't know about you, but I'm in tears after watching the cast of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air come together for HBO's reunion special, which dropped on Nov. 18. During the hour-long program, former castmates Will Smith, Tatyana Ali, Karyn Parsons, Joseph Marcell, Daphne Maxwell Reid, Alfonso Ribeiro, and DJ Jazzy Jeff paid homage to their late costar James Avery, aka Uncle Phil, who died in 2013 due to open-heart surgery complications. In honor of Avery's legacy, they opened up about his fatherly presence on and off screen before showing a video tribute with his most notable scenes. Look ahead to read the sweetest quotes from the cast's salute to Avery.

Spoiler Alert: This story contains details of the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air Reunion that premieres Wednesday on HBO Max.
On September 10, 1990, we were introduced to a young man from West Philadelphia where he was born and raised. He spent most of his days on the playground where he would be chillin’ out and relaxin’. When he was shooting basketball outside of his school, he was confronted by some guys in his neighborhood who were up to no good. He got into a fight and his mom did not like this at all so he sent him to live with his auntie and uncle in Bel-Air. This is when Will Smith became the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.
Fast forward 30 years later and we are reliving an era in TV history with a reunion of the cast on HBO Max — which Smith announced will be dropping on the streamer earlier than expected at 5 p.

The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air reunion is coming and the hope is that a lot of people are going to watch it just because it’s commemorating the fact that this show was once one of the greatest on the air. Hubert was fired before “Fresh Prince” Season 4 and replaced by Reid for reasons that are still not fully understood — explanations range from creative differences, to contract disputes, to claims that she was fired because she got pregnant. And for his part,...

It wouldn’t be a proper Fresh Prince of Bel-Air reunion without the original Aunt Viv, who arrives for a “candid conversation” with Will Smith in a newly released trailer for the highly anticipated HBO Max special.

Los Angeles residents can live like the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air himself as Airbnb and Will Smith announced Monday that the recognizable TV home will be available to rent for $30 a night.
The Bad Boys For Life actor shared a picture of himself in front of the Los Angeles estate sharing the news. In the caption for his Instagram pic he wrote, “Yoooo!! Y’all think we should rent out the @freshprince house?? We’re making it happen with the squad at @airbnb!!”
L.A. residents and Fresh Prince fans can request to book a wing in the TV home starting Sept. 29. However, only five groups of two will have the chance to stay at the Banks family home. Each selected group of two has to prove that party members live together to minimize the risk of Covid-19 transmission.

Peacock has placed a two-season order for “Bel-Air,” a dramatic reboot of “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” based on Morgan Cooper’s viral YouTube video.
“Fresh Prince” star Will Smith, who will produce the series, announced the news on Tuesday via his social media channels. Watch the video above.
Here’s the official description for the one-hour drama, which was put into development at Universal Television last month:
“Set in modern-day America, ‘Bel-Air’ is a serialized one-hour dramatic analogue of the 90’s sitcom ‘The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air’ that leans into the original premise: Will’s complicated journey from the streets of West Philadelphia to the gated mansions of Bel-Air. With a reimagined vision, ‘Bel-Air’ will dive deeper into the inherent conflicts, emotions and biases that were impossible to fully explore in a 30-minute sitcom format, while still delivering swagger and nods to the original show.”

Check your egos at the door. Will Smith made the right choice Joyce. The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air cast will reunite for an unscripted special to celebrate the 30-year anniversary of the series and the cultural impact it’s had since its debut. The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air Reunion Special is set to tape on Sept. 10, 30 years to the day it launched on NBC in 1990. The reunion special was developed by Will and Jada Pinkett Smith’s media company Westbrook Media, and will debut exclusively on HBO Max around Thanksgiving.
The entire Banks family is coming back to the hood. Will Smith will be joined by series regulars Tatyana Ali (Ashley), Karyn Parsons (Hilary), Joseph Marcell (Geoffrey), Daphne Maxwell Reid (Aunt Viv No. 2), and Alfonso Ribeiro (Carlton). Janet Hubert, who played Aunt Viv No. 1, didn’t show up to the 2017 cast reunion and probably won’t be involved in the reunion.

The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air is set to once again make the television landscape into its kingdom. However, it will do so in a tonally-divergent fashion from the classic 1990-1996 sitcom.
The reboot will be based on the 2019 viral short, Bel-Air (which you can view below), by Morgan Cooper. The short was a parody trailer that put a contemporary dramatic twist on the intended comedic premise of the original sitcom, and famously gained the attention of star Will Smith, who referred to it as “an idea that’s brilliant.” Now, said idea will yield the patronage of megastar Smith, whose shingle with wife Jada Pinkett Smith, Westbrook Studios, is teaming with Universal Television to bring Bel-Air to life and pitch the project to several outlets and streamers, some of which, according to THR, include Peacock (streamer of the original show’s NBC home), Netflix and HBO Max.

A dramatic reboot of “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” is in the works, Variety has confirmed.
It will be based on Morgan Cooper’s viral video that reimagined the NBC comedy series as a drama titled “Bel-Air.” The trailer, which Cooper posted online last year, has racked up over five million views on YouTube alone. Watch it below.
The project is currently being shopped to multiple outlets, including HBO Max, which is the streaming home of the original series.
Cooper is attached to co-write and direct the project and will also serve as a co-executive producer. Chris Collins will serve as showrunner and executive producer in addition to co-writing the script with Cooper. Smith will executive produce via Westbrook Studios along with Quincy Jones, Benny Medina, and original series creators Andy and Susan Borowitz. Miguel Melendez and Westbrook Studios’ Terence Carter will also executive produce. Westbrook Studios and Universal Television will produce.

The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air is returning, but not how you expected.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, a new take on the original series is in the works, but it won't be as a comedy.
Instead, it will be an hour-long drama, based on Morgan Cooper's viral YouTube video from 2019, in which the superfan created a trailer for the series as that reimagined the series as a drama.
Cooper is also on board with the project. He will co-write the script, direct, and executive produce alongside Will Smith, who starred in the original series.
No network is attached, but it is reportedly being sent out to streamers, and the most logical home would be HBO Max.
The new streamer already has the rights to the original series.
However, THR notes that Peacock, Netflix, and HBO Max are bidding for the series, meaning there's a great chance this show will make it to the air.

“The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” is getting a reboot, but its life is getting flipped-turned upside down. That’s because the new version being developed re-imagines the Will Smith comedy as a drama, an individual with knowledge of the project told TheWrap.
“Bel-Air” is based on Morgan Cooper’s viral YouTube video from 2019, in which the self-described “Fresh Prince” superfan created a trailer that imagined if the series were a drama. The one-hour drama leans into the original premise of the series — in which Will Smith’s character was relocated from the streets of West Philadelphia to the wealthy Los Angeles neighborhood of Bel-Air — but dives deeper into the inherent conflicts, emotions and biases of what it means to be a Black man in America today, while still delivering the swagger and fun nods to the original show.

Will Smith has come a long way from his troublemaking days in West Philadelphia, but he wouldn't be where he is without his Fresh Prince of Bel-Air costars. On Tuesday night, the actor celebrated the Aladdin movie premiere in Los Angeles alongside his beautiful family, and he had his onscreen family there as well. Alfonso Ribeiro aka Carlton Banks attended the movie premiere with his adorable 5-year-old son, and Tatyana Ali (who played Ashley Banks) was there with her family as well. Tatyana had her 2-year-old son in tow, and she and Will couldn't have been happier to see each other. Somewhere, James Avery is smiling.
Earlier this week, Will admitted that his role on Fresh Prince inspired the persona he gave the Genie in Disney's upcoming Aladdin movie. And we have the Genie to thank for granting us this adorable reunion! Check out Will, Alfonso, and Tatyana's photos from the premiere ahead.

A month ago, filmmaker Morgan Cooper reimagined NBC’s hit 1990s sitcom “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” as a dramatic series, creating a concept trailer that quickly went viral. With close to 6 million views on YouTube alone, the star of the original series, Will Smith, eventually saw the trailer, and loved it so much that he invited Cooper for a videotaped interview during which he not only expressed his appreciation for the effort, but also analyzed its potential.
“Morgan did a ridiculous trailer for ‘Bel-Air’,” Smith said in the video titled “How I Really Feel About That Bel-air Trailer,” which he published on his popular YouTube channel on Friday. “The dramatic version of these ideas means that you can use existing storylines, but it’s not going to seem like you are redoing an episode because the storyline’s going to be brand-new from a dramatic perspective.”

Will Smith thinks a fan-made YouTube reinterpretation of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air is “brilliant.”
The nearly four-minute clip titled Bel-Air was created by cinematographer Morgan Cooper and recreates the beloved Smith-starring sitcom as an indie drama.
The Bad Boys for Life actor watched the viral video and posted a review on his YouTube page Friday.
“I saw this trailer that Morgan Cooper hooked up, it was called Bel-Air,” Smith said as he stood next to Cooper. “This is the first time that I heard something and I was like ‘Yo, that’s an idea that is brilliant.'”
Cooper told Smith he grew up watching the series, which ran on NBC from 1990 to 1996, and co-starred James Avery, Alfonso Ribeiro, Tatyana Ali, Karyn Parsons, Joseph Marcell, Janet Hubert and later Daphne Reid.
The cinematographer has said in previous interviews that he used his own money to fund the slickly-produced project.
