- He was the opening act (under the name of Frankie Sardo) for the 1959 "Winter Dance Party" tour made famous by the deaths of Buddy Holly, Richie Valens, and the Big Bopper in a plane crash on February 3, 1959. At the time, he had a single on the charts in the Midwest called "Fake Out".
- He broke into show business as a rock and roll singer under the name Frankie Sardo.
