Dice’s heritage and expertise in the shooter genre may be felt within Star Wars Battlefront, but the studio has reaffirmed that its similarities with Battlefield end there.
Across its development, the Swedish dev has repeatedly stated that its high-profile take on a galaxy far, far away will feel and play like a different beast to its lucrative Battlefield franchise, and General Manager Patrick Bach drove that point home once more in a recent interview with Official PlayStation Magazine (via GamesRadar).
In fact, Bach even went so far as to say that Battlefront doesn’t borrow “a single system” from Dice’s flagship series, while trumpeting the shooter’s nostalgic factor.
I don’t think we have a single system in the game that is the same as in Battlefield. They are as far apart as any shooter would be to any other shooter. I think people will be surprised...

It was clear from the get-go that Dice, a studio well versed in the space of multiplayer shooters courtesy of Battlefield, wanted to double down on the online component within Star Wars Battlefront. Heck, the studio’s General Manager Patrick Bach recently stated that a bona fide single-player mode was never on the cards for the galactic shooter. That said, the licensed title will offer solo play via the Missions gameplay mode, giving users the opportunity to play alongside bots and friends either online or off.
Though some have questioned the substance of the Missions, Level Artist Daniel Cambrand has taken to Reddit to offer his own two cents on the mode, stating that they offer a high level of replay value.
Personally I have found the replay value to be very high. We have had an internal competition at the office where we battled over a case of beer,...

While its absence took many by surprise upon its initial reveal, Dice General Manager Patrick Bach has revealed that single-player was “never in the plan” for Star Wars Battlefront, stating that the creative team made it their priority to allow budding fans to relive some of the most famous battles from the original trilogy.
Overall, though, the decision to omit the feature was part of Dice’s ambition to remain faithful to the franchise’s roots, which has traditionally placed a heavy emphasis on multiplayer shootouts over single-player experiences. Speaking to GameSpot during the course of E3, here’s what Bach had to say on the matter at hand:
To be honest, single-player was never in the plan. It was never the concept. The concept for us was always that we wanted players to re-live the battles. We wanted them to play the battles from the original movies. And Dice,...

One of the marquee titles at this year’s E3 in Los Angeles will no doubt be Star Wars Battlefront, and EA’s long-awaited title is shaping up to be one of the biggest releases of 2015, piggybacking off the hype brought about by J.J. Abrams’ The Force Awakens. At its core, though, Dice’s take on the beloved series very much represents a reboot, and the studio’s General Manager Patrick Bach spoke to Official PlayStation Magazine about the decision to take Battlefront back to its roots.
I think what we did was instead of trying to build upon the old games, we went back and said let’s start over. For a long time there was a lot of major anticipation for Dice's upcoming video game title "Star Wars: Battlefront," but the buzz has cooled in recent weeks as more information has begun to be revealed.
One sticking point for a lot of people is the complete lack of a single player campaign. There will be offline play available, but it will be for just select missions and without any narrative or cut scenes to give these random missions any kind of link.
In a new interview with Opm UK, Dice's Patrick Bach has gone on the record about another surprising bit of contention - a complete lack of any space-set missions in the game. It's a surprise considering it was a key feature of the last game. Bach says:
"We want players to stay in the same [environment] – we don't want players to fly off and do something over here.

Hot on the heels of Friday’s nostalgic, show-stopping reveal, developer Dice has opened up about some of the finer details lurking beneath Star Wars Battlefront‘s glossy aesthetic and, crucially, how it isn’t just a “big-budget Battlefield mod.”
Although this complaint was levelled at Visceral Games’ recent Battlefield Hardline not too long ago, speaking to Eurogamer, the studio’s General Manager general manager Patrick Bach touched upon the design philosophy behind Battlefront, and why the creative team are striving to bring the series back to its legendary roots.
“The whole idea of building a Star Wars Battlefront game is about two things. First of all, it’s called Star Wars Battlefront for a reason, so [we’re] going back to the roots and the core ethos of that. On top of that, it’s Star Wars together with LucasFilm. We have the opportunity to work with them on this; it’s a super tight relationship.

Star Wars Battlefront, the upcoming multiplayer shooter from EA, will be set during the events of the original movie trilogy.
Based on the conflict between the Galactic Empire and Rebel Alliance, maps will take place on planets Hoth, Tatooine and Sullest, and allow players to command jetpacks, At-at walkers, Tie Fighters, speeders and even the Millennium Falcon in 40-player skirmishes.
Watch the game's first trailer below:
The best-performing players will be rewarded with the ability to play as Boba Fett and Darth Vader in matches. While the multiplayer game won't feature a campaign, first reports from Game Informer and Eurogamer describe the availability of solo missions and split-screen play, as well as the ability to switch between first and third-person perspectives at will.

Electronic Arts‘ hit video game "Battlefield: Bad Company" is being turned into "Bad Company", an hourlong action comedy TV series for Fox says Kotaku.
The story follows four renegade soldiers as they exit military life and enter the private sector. They soon realize their former C.O. used them to further the ends of a shadow unit within the government and now wants them dead to cover his tracks.
While the main "Battlefield" game series resembles the various other contemporary military multiplayer-centric first-person shooters on the market (ie. "Call of Duty", "Medal of Honor"), 'Bad Company' was unique in that it was developed for consoles and focused primarily on a single player campaign with distinct characters.
Sony TV and Happy Madison are producing the series which "Alias" scribe John Eisendrath is writing and executive producing. Patrick Bach, Patrick O’Brien and Doug Robinson will also serve as executive producers on the series.

Exclusive: Electronic Arts‘ hit video game Battlefield: Bad Company is headed to the small screen. Fox has put in development Bad Company, an hourlong action comedy based on EA’s bestselling video game from Alias alum John Eisendrath, Sony TV and studio-based Happy Madison. Written by Eisendrath, Bad Company features the main characters from the game. It follows four renegade soldiers as they exit military life and enter the private sector. But trouble is never far behind as they realize their commanding officer had used them to further the ends of a shadow unit within the government and now wants them dead to cover his tracks. Eisendrath is executive producing with Happy Madison’s Doug Robinson and EA’s Patrick Bach and Patrick O’Brien. Part of EA’s Battlefield series, Battlefield: Bad Company, a single-player campaign that drops gamers behind enemy lines, was released in 2008 and spawned a sequel two years later.

Its fun to shoot your best friends, or annoying family members, in their digital Battlefield 3 faces. It’s even more fun to do it in full HD-feels-like-they’re-in-front-of-you glory.
Battlefield 3 will give you the ability to do this, launching October 25th with an extra DVD containing a texture pack. The pack will allow gamers to download extra textures straight to their 360 hard drives, letting them stream full on HD eye candy to their gaming experience. Think of it as the difference between the movie Avatar in IMAX 3-D, or Avatar on a portable DVD player. It matters.
This is an approach EA already takes with PC and PS3 versions of the game, and it only made sense to include the 360 for the latest installment. It is, however, an optional feature that allows users without a hard drive the same modern warfare experience, only in slightly, less-shiny standard definition.

Battlefield 3 is not forcing you to install the game to your Xbox 360 hard drive, but they might as well be. If you don’t install the game to your hard drive, Battlefield 3 will run at standard definition settings. There is a texture package that needs to be downloaded to your hard drive for the game to run at high definition.
Patrick Bach the executive producer for Battlefield 3 had this to say:
“There’s nothing magic about it, It’s the same thing we do for PC and PS3, so there’s nothing extra. So what it does is it gives you the same abilities, kind of, as the PC and PS3. You can actually stream information from the hard drive. It does make a difference, yes, absolutely. The whole engine is based around streaming textures, streaming terrain and a lot of other content.”

New Battlefield games won't be released annually, Dice has said. Battlefield 3's executive producer Patrick Bach told GamerZines that such a release schedule would "eventually kill the franchise". "The business goals for us are not to release a game every year," he said. "To us, we need the time to be able to create the next game that consumers will hopefully like. "If we were to release another big Battlefield title next year, that would mean that we'd have less than a year to build it, and that would mean that we'd have to have another studio building it for us, which would mean it wouldn't have that Dice seal of approval, which would mean they'd just have to release a copy of the game we just released. Ugh, no." Bach added: "EA would never force us to release a game every year. I think (more)...

Battlefield 3 will feature more 'compact' multiplayer maps on consoles to avoid cutting content. Dice executive producer Patrick Bach explained the differences between the PC version of Battlefield 3 and its Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 counterparts. "The rest is more or less the same - we use the same engine, the same technology, the same animation system, the same lighting system. Our aim is to give the player the exact same experience and not try to dumb down the console version." Bach continued: "Everything is a compromise. It's not that we're evil or stupid. We found out last month that "Battlefield 3" was coming equipped with campaign cooperative play. It's an exciting feature, and an interesting move by Dice, as the campaigns in previous "Battlefield" games have always felt a bit...well, a bit like a secondary thought. The impetus in those games has always centered on multiplayer, and acting as though a campaign plays a vital role – let alone adding what sounds like story-driven co-op – is kind of a big deal.
Speaking to PSM3 magazine (via That VideoGame Blog), "Battlefield 3" executive producer, Patrick Bach, has stated that the co-op play will take place within a dedicated mode. Furthermore, the mode will consist of ten maps, designed for tackling with two players. Unfortunately, that's pretty much all that Bach had to say on the matter.

In a statement clearly designed to take advantage of Modern Warfare 2’s preposterous Dlc pricing, Dice Senior Producer Patrick Bach told Xbox 360 Magazine that they would never make customers pay for Dlc, even though they’re under the EA umbrella;

Dlc for Battlefield: Bad Company 2 went on sale day before yesterday, competing against the giant that is Infinity Ward’s Modern Warfare 2 ‘Stimulus Package’. The only difference being, the ‘Stimulus Package’ will set you back $15 (and may not work properly) whereas the Bad Company 2 Dlc will cost you absolutely nothing (and it came months sooner than the MW2 maps in relation to its release date). Back around the launch of "Battlefield 1943," Dice promised that folks who purchased the game would be rewarded with an exclusive weapon in "Battlefield Bad Company 2." Speaking with Patrick Bach, senior producer at Dice, I was able to confirm that the deal is still in effect.
Players that purchase both games and register those games on Veteran.Battlefield.com will unlock access to the WWII M1 Garand. (The site is not yet fully-functional, so don't try it until the game launches.) The weapon is basically the same semi-automatic mid-range rifle carried by the rifleman class in "Battlefield 1943."
It would appear the unlock is tied to your "Veteran" status, which relates to how many "Battlefield" games you've registered on EA.com. Level 1 Veteran requires two games played, so you could probably attain the same unlock having played any previous "Battlefield" game (including the first "Bad Company").

Lovers of the much beloved Battlefield series have something to look forward to as Patrick Bach, the executive producer of Battlefield: Bad Company 2 was recently heard to say:
“In the background we’re doing a lot of things that I can’t talk about that are aiming towards creating the next big Battlefield product.”
There hasn’t been a new Battlefield game (discounting the Bad Company series) since Battlefield: 2142 released in 2006, but according to EA COO John Pleasants, there will be a third incarnation of the title:
“I’ve had the luxury of looking at Battlefield 3 over at Dice over in Sweden. I was highly impressed by the way the people were working on that product. That’s not for this fiscal year ending March 31, 2010, but that is a product that is looking very good.”
