He was brought onto
Doctor Who (1963) by the script editor in the early 1970s,
Terrance Dicks. The
Doctor Who (1963) producers
Barry Letts,
Philip Hinchcliffe and
Graham Williams all considered him to be among the best writers of the series. He offered to write for the revival,
Doctor Who (2005), but was told by executive producer
Russell T. Davies that his services were not required. Davies did not actually use any writers from the original series.
