Neon has picked up rights to Dorothy Baker’s 1962 novel Cassandra at the Wedding and has set Sarah DeLappe to adapt for the screen.
The book follows Cassandra Edwards, a graduate student at Berkeley: gay, brilliant, nerve-wracked, and miserable. At the beginning of the novel, she drives back to her family ranch in the foothills of the Sierras to attend the wedding of her identical twin, Judith, to a nice young doctor from Connecticut. Cassandra, however, is hell-bent on sabotaging the wedding.
DeLappe wrote Bodies, Bodies, Bodies for A24, which recently premiered at SXSW. She also penned the play The Wolves, which received the American Playwriting Foundation’s inaugural Relentless Award, and was a finalist for the 2017 Pulitzer Prize for Drama.
Neon will produce the adaptation with Brad Becker-Parton and Greg Nobile on behalf of Seaview, along with Early and Leslie Conliffe from Intellectual Property Group.

It’s that time of year again. While some directors annually share their favorite films of the year, Steven Soderbergh lists everything he consumed, media-wise. For 2020––a year in which he not only Let Them All Talk Review: Steven Soderbergh’s Most Emotionally Resonant Film in Years”>released a new film, but No Sudden Move and Confirms The Knick Return”>shot another––he still got plenty of watching in.
His list includes months-early screenings of Mank (x4!), I’m Your Woman, Bill & Ted Face the Music, Cherry, and The Woman in the Window, as well no shortage of classics and recent favorites, including Time, Long Day’s Journey Into Night, The Assistant, two films in the Small Axe anthology, and more. After beginning production on No Sudden Move on September 28, he also screened the first cut on November 14.
Check out the list below via his official site.

Dominic Murphy, the uber-talented filmmaker who blasted onto the scene with the Sundance/Berlin debut feature film White Lightnin', a pic I'm sure a very small percentage of our readers have seen, will next direct another relationship-themed film in Cassandra at the Wedding. Based on the 1962 novel by Dorothy Baker, this will likely be Bruno Heller's first credit for a feature film screenplay - so far, he wrote for television's Rome and The Mentalist. Sam Taylor who produced White Lightin' and more recently Donkey, Reykjavik Whale Watching Massacre and a cool sounding doc Street Kids United pitched the project to the filmmaker. Variety reports that filming is scheduled for April of next year in Wales and New Zealand. Gist: Film centers on 26-year-old Cassandra, whose life gets turned upside down when she finds out her identical twin, Jude, is about to drop out of college and get married with...
