Paramount has shifted the release date of its animated feature Rumble to May 14, 2021, pushing it further back from its previous January 19, 2021 date.
Paramount Animation and WWE Studios are teaming on the pic, which is directed by Hamish Grieve and originally was slated for a summer 2020 bow before the exhibition business shut down because of the coronavirus pandemic. Now it returns to its (in normal times) original early-summer-box-office slot, only a year later.
The story, written by Grieve and Matt Lieberman based on the graphic novel by Rob Harrel, is set in a world where monster wrestling is a global sport and monsters are superstar athletes. It follows Winnie (Hala‘s Geraldine Viswanathan), who seeks to follow in her father’s footsteps by coaching a loveable underdog monster (Will Arnett) into a wrestling champion.

.Any other team wins the World Series, good for them.
They’re drinking champagne, they get a ring.
But if we win, on our budget, with this team…we’ll change the game.
And that’s what I want. I want it to mean something..
In 2003, former Salomon Brothers bond trader turned author Michael Lewis, at the time best known for such business and politics bestsellers as Liar.s Poker and The New New Thing, published a book about baseball. Only it wasn.t just about baseball. On the surface, it was about how the under-funded, underrated Oakland A.s took on an unfair system of big-money and powerhouse teams. But it was really about the fascinating mix of men behind a major cultural shift and how a risky vision, born from necessity, becomes reality, when a ragtag team of cast-offs rejected due to unfounded biases, get the chance to finally prove their potential.

The DreamWorks-to-Paramount exodus continues. DreamWorks executive Marty Cohen has been named head of postproduction at Paramount Pictures, the studio said Thursday. Cohen, who is well liked in production and exhibition circles, joins distribution topper Jim Tharp as among the DreamWorks execs migrating to the Melrose lot. In his new post, he will be responsible for all aspects of feature postproduction, including editorials, visual effects, sound design, digital intermediates and piracy protection. He replaces Paul Haggar, who retired last year, and will report to president of feature production Mark Bakshi.

Mark Bakshi has been appointed president of feature production management at Paramount Pictures. He will be responsible for all aspects of worldwide physical production, production finance and estimating for Paramount's live-action and animated feature films. He will report to Paramount Pictures president and vice chairman of the motion picture group Donald De Line, who announced the appointment. Bakshi replaces Fred Gallo, who is retiring from the post and segueing into a production deal with the studio.
Steven Spielberg's War of the Worlds, which just got an accelerated green light from Paramount Pictures and DreamWorks, is likely to reteam the director with VFX whiz Dennis Muren and Industrial Light + Magic. Producer Kathleen Kennedy is already beginning negotiations with the Northern California effects house, and Muren is likely to oversee the job, with Paramount exec Mark Bakshi supervising for the studio. As it happens, Muren was in Los Angeles this week taking meetings while also attending Siggraph, the annual computer graphics confab. The shot count for "War" has yet to be determined, but it is not expected to be as large as some recent summer films. Minority Report, overseen by ILM's Scott Farrar (while Muren worked on The Hulk), contained about 400 shots, while Artificial Intelligence: AI, on which Spielberg and Muren last collaborated, had close to 300 shots. If ILM does land the job, the timing would be fortuitous: The facility has nearly completed work on Paramount's Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events and is looking at boards for shows with late-winter/early-spring starts.
