Dick Wolf is in for another busy season at NBC. No surprise here, the Peacock network has renewed “Chicago Med,” “Chicago Fire,” “Chicago P.D.,” “Law & Order” and “Law & Order: Svu” for the 2024-25 broadcast TV season. Among Dick Wolf scripted series, that leaves just “Law & Order: Organized Crime” on the bubble; a renewal for that show, which has experienced multiple showrunner changes in its short life, is still in discussion.
Among the shows, this will rep the 26th season of “Law & Order: SVU,” the 24th season of “Law & Order,” Season 13 for “Chicago Fire,” the 12th season for “Chicago PD” and the 10th season for “Chicago Med.” All of the renewed series are produced by Universal Studio Group’s Universal Television division, along with Wolf Entertainment, and all shows stream the following day on Peacock. (Wolf’s deal with Universal is currently through 2027.)

NBC has renewed most — but not all — of the shows in its two biggest franchises for the 2024-25 season.
The network has ordered new seasons of all three of its Chicago dramas — Med, Fire and Pd — along with Law & Order and Law & Order: Svu. Notably missing from the list is Law & Order: Organized Crime, whose status is “still under discussion,” according to NBC. All six series come from Dick Wolf’s Wolf Entertainment and Universal Television.
Svu will add to its record as the longest-running primetime drama in American TV history with a 26th season in 2024-25, while Law & Order — which recently saw the departure of series fixture Sam Waterston — will air its 24th. Chicago Med will hit double digits with its 10th season, Fire will air its 13th and Pd its 12th.

NBC’s Law & Order franchise will open the 2022-23 by doing something it has never done in its long history.
All three shows in the brand — the original L&o, Svu and Organized Crime — will come together for a single story spanning their season premieres on Sept. 22. It’s a first for Law & Order but not for executive producer Dick Wolf, whose teams have pulled off similar three-show events on NBC’s Chicago dramas and CBS’ FBI franchise.
Law & Order showrunner Rick Eid and Chicago Pd’s Gwen Sigan wrote the feature-length telecast. Franchise veteran Jean de Segonzac directs the first two hours; Alex Hall helms the third.
“Nothing demonstrates the power of the Law & Order brand more than an ambitious three-hour event with a story that is truly ripped from the headlines that starts on Organized Crime, then...

A familiar face will be returning to Law & Order: Svu. Demore Barnes, who portrayed Deputy Chief Christian Garland in the NBC procedural, will return to reprise the role in an upcoming episode, Deadline has confirmed.
Garland joined the series in the 21st season as a recurring and was promoted to series regular in Season 22. He exited the series in the second half of the Season 23 premiere, “Never Turn Your Back On Them”. Barnes’ Garland had left his job after disagreeing with higher-ups about the way police misconduct was being handled in a controversial case.
Barnes was recently spotted filming scenes in NYC for the drama series, leading to questions about his return, first reported by Give Me My Remote. He will appear in the April 28th episode.
At the time of his departure, Barnes said he was in the dark about why his character had been written out of the show.

The Imagen Foundation president Helen Hernandez announced 114 nominees across 20 categories for the 35th annual Imagen Awards.

The judges were challenged with the overwhelming increase of quality submissions for consideration. It’s clear that we are making some strides, but have a way to go to achieve significant equity and inclusion in the industry. Until then, Imagen is committed to be the means to...

The Emmy Awards ballot for Best Drama Directing lists 295 episodes (from 156 series), so there will eight nominees in this category for the first time, per new rules. Although this category never had a guaranteed seven slots, close votes resulted in lineups of seven nominees in six of the last 15 years, including last year:
“Game of Thrones” season 8: “The Iron Throne” (David Benioff & D.B. Weiss) “Game of Thrones” season 8: “The Last of the Starks” (David Nutter) “Game of Thrones” season 8: “The Long Night” (Miguel Sapochnik) “The Handmaid’s Tale” season 2B: “Holly” (Daina Reid) “Killing Eve” season 2: “Desperate Times” (Lisa Brühlmann) Winner — “Ozark” season 2: “Reparations” (Jason Bateman) “Succession” season 1: “Celebration” (Adam McKay)
Although Jason Bateman returned as a director on “Ozark” for its third season, he cannot repeat his win, as he is instead submitting the pilot of “The Outsider,” which is next to “Ozark” on the long ballot.

Will the fifth season be the charm for AMC’s “Better Call Saul,” a prequel to the Emmy-winning “Breaking Bad”? “Saul” has been nominated for Best Drama Series every season of its run so far, and it has accumulated a total of 32 nominations overall, but it has yet to win a single category. It has plenty of chances in 2020, though. Scroll down to see the show’s 40 submissions on the Emmy ballots from Best Drama Series all the way down to Best Sound Mixing.
“Saul” follows the career of Jimmy McGill (Bob Odenkirk), a lawyer who will eventually transform himself into the underworld defender Saul Goodman we knew for several seasons on “Breaking Bad.” Odenkirk was never nominated for his performance on that show, but he has been nominated four times for Best Drama Actor for “Saul”. [Note: The following review contains spoilers for “Better Call Saul” Season 5, Episode 2, “50% Off.”]
Buying time has always been part of the fabric of “Better Call Saul.” Apprehended felons, contentious siblings, pleading attorneys: all of them are just trying to wring what time they can for themselves or the people they’re working for.
A fifth of the way into Season 5, it’s not that the show is necessarily doing the same thing, but as was evident from the season premiere, wrestling with the impending conclusion of the show’s handful of individual arcs is going to mean a week-by-week balance of shuttling certain characters to their fixed endpoints and drawing out the drama of seeing how/when/why others won’t be having a future in Albuquerque.
For the second straight episode, Kim is made to suffer each of Jimmy’s successive steps into Saul-land. Their early morning, getting-ready conversation (marred by Jimmy preparing to wear an...

Better Call Saul Season 5 Episode 2
Even if the second night of AMC’s grand two-night premiere of Better Call Saul can’t help but feel a little less ceremonious than last night’s premiere, it’s still an exciting escalation of the story and an interesting rewind back to some of Season 1’s rhythms. “50% Off” also feels focused on Nacho in a way that at times felt missing in Season 4. After watching the episode’s final moments, it seems like we won’t be away from Nacho for too long in the near future.
As someone that has always enjoyed Michael Mando’s performance, my biggest complaint of Season 4 was the three-episode stretch in the middle of the season...

NBC’s push for diversity and inclusion continues as it unveils the 2019-2020 classes for Female Forward and the Emerging Director Program, two pioneering scripted initiatives to increase the representation of female and ethnically diverse directors by creating a pipeline into scripted television. The initiatives stand out as the only programs in the industry that give participating directors an in-season guarantee to direct at least one episode.
Female Forward, which aims to achieve gender parity in the director’s chair, ushers in its second year with seven directors helming episodes of NBC shows. The new class of Female Forward directors and the NBC series they will direct include Kris Lefcoe (Superstore), Brenna Malloy (Chicago Fire), Sj Main Muñoz (Chicago Med), Kim Nguyen (Brooklyn Nine-Nine) and Sara Zandieh (Good Girls).

As Law & Order: Svu is heading into its historic 21st season, the series is bringing back one of its beloved showrunners. Warren Leight, credited with revitalizing the veteran crime drama during his five-year turn at the helm, is returning as executive producer/showrunner.
He will succeed another veteran of the Dick Wolf drama universe, Michael Chernuchin, who will join Wolf’s CBS series FBI, recently renewed for a second season. Chernuchin has signed a new overall deal with Universal Television, the studio behind all Dick Wolf shows.
Chernuchin will work as executive producer on FBI alongside Rick Eid, who will continue as executive producer/showrunner on both FBI for its upcoming second season and Chicago P.D. for its seventh.

CBS has ordered additional episodes of FBI, its latest high-profile drama series from Dick Wolf. The network did not confirm the size of the back order, only calling it a full-season pickup. I hear that the order is the standard Back 9, bringing the show’s freshman season to 22 episodes.
The pickup is not a surprise. FBI, from Universal Television and CBS Television Studios, ranks as CBS’ most-watched new series with over 13.6 million viewers, and as the No. 2 new show of the season in that metric.
FBI got off to a solid ratings start, ranking as CBS’ second-most-watched drama during premiere week (12.9 million in Live+3), behind NCIS, and third-most-watched CBS series overall, behind The Big Bang Theory and NCIS. The drama also displayed impressive Week 2 (93%) and Week 3 (97%) Live+same day viewership holds, edging time-slot rival This Is Us on NBC the past two Tuesdays.
FBI centers on the inner workings of the New York office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Missy Peregrym, Zeeko Zaki, Ebonée Noel, Jeremy Sisto and Sela Ward star.
The series has underwent behind-the-scenes changes. It saw the departures of original showrunner Craig Turk, who was replaced in July by Greg Plageman. He recently stepped down and was succeeded by two of Wolf’s top lieutenants: Chicago P.D. showrunner Rick Eid and Chicago Fire showrunner Derek Haas.
Dick Wolf, Rick Eid, Derek Haas, Terry Miller, Norberto Barba, Arthur W. Forney and Peter Jankowski are executive producers for Universal Television in association with CBS Television Studios.
FBI airs Tuesdays at 9 Pm on CBS.

CBS has given freshman drama “FBI” a full season order.
The series details the inner workings of the New York office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. It stars Missy Peregrym, Zeeko Zaki, Ebonée Noel, Jeremy Sisto, and Sela Ward. It is the first freshman CBS show to be picked up for a full season this year.
The series was co-created by Craig Turk and Dick Wolf, the mastermind behind the “Law & Order” and “Chicago” franchises. Turk was originally the showrunner on “FBI,” but left due to creative differences earlier this year. Greg Plageman then stepped in as showrunner, with Plageman himself stepping down and Rick Eid and Derek Haas taking over as co-showrunners. Eid and Haas will simultaneously work on both “FBI” while still running fellow Wolf shows “Chicago Pd” and “Chicago Fire” respectively, with both of those shows airing on NBC.

The new show, which Sutter created with Elgin James and exec produces with James and pilot episode director Norberto Barba, premieres September 4.
There are familiar faces from Sons, like Mayans leader Emilio Rivera, and there is Edward James Olmos,...

Mayans Mc is coming to FX this fall, and the Sons of Anarchy offshoot could be bringing over some characters from the parent series.
Those characters are none other than Jax's (Charlie Hunnam) children, Abel and Thomas.
“I do think it would be interesting to see Jax’s sons faced with the reality of who their father was,” Kurt Sutter, Ep of both Sons and Mayans, told reporters Friday at the Television Critics Assoc. summer press tour.
“Jax basically said [to ex-wife] Wendy, ‘Do not paint my existence and my life in any glamorous way. Tell my sons that I’m a scum, and I’m a murderer, and they should have nothing to do with me.’ Because he didn’t want them to face the same obstacles, the same draw to lineage that he had."

"To me, there’s potentially something interesting to see how that may manifest.

Kurt Sutter has reasons for holding off on revisiting the “Sons of Anarchy” franchise for almost 4 years. And no, it wasn’t just because he wanted to make time for his next FX series, which didn’t fair so well.
“Yeah, I planned on ‘The Bastard Executioner’ bombing and only lasting a season,” the FX series’ creator joked during the Television Critics Association press tour Friday, when asked if he planned out the timeline between the end of the Charlie Hunnam-led drama and the debut of its upcoming spinoff “Mayans M.C.” “All part of my big plan.”
“No, no,” he continued. “You know, at Season 5, 6 or 7 [of ‘Sons of Anarchy’] we knew we wanted to continue the IP. We knew this was an idea we liked. Both [FX CEO] John Landgraf and myself knew that we didn’t want to do it on the heels of ‘Sons’ and sort of cannibalize the IP.

FX showed off the first 13 minutes of the pilot episode of “Mayans Mc” during its panel at Comic-Con 2018, and if its anything to go by, the huge “Sons of Anarchy”-sized hole left in fans’ hearts is about to be filled.
The “Sons of Anarchy” spinoff starts with a lone rider on his chopper on a remote Southern California highway, through various scenes of empty desolation and exurban decay. He’s wearing a leather vest with no club identification, but the word “Prospect” is written along the bottom in back.
The scene cuts to a warehouse, which we immediately discover is a front for the Mayans M.C. The camera follows Taza, played by Raoul Trujillo, as he moves through a sweatshop staffed with workers making Quinceañera dresses that is run by the motorcycle club. It follows him into a back room, where we learn the real hustle: Mayans are...

Mayans M.C. isn’t closing Comic-Con 2018. But the upcoming Kurt Sutter co-created FX series sure rolled into Hall H hard, like they were the headliners today.
Fueling some of that was Sutter’s declaration that the shared world of the new show and its Sons of Anarchy mother ride of sorts will meet, eventually.
“Right now, there is no intersecting stories. But Sons is a big world,” Sutter said of the 2014 ending, Charlie Hunnam-led show, adding he didn’t “want to fuck with” the original show or fans. “We’ll see those points of intersection this season and throughout the series as well,” he said, noting the shows do exist in the same world, have a “relationship,” and that the SoCal-set Mayans starts a little bit after Soa’s finale.
“I want to acknowledge that world and find opportunities to circle that, but I don’t want to abuse it,...

Will Mayans Mc be able to capture the immense success that Sons of Anarchy did several years ago?
FX has been sharing teasers of the series for several weeks now, but the network dropped the first full-length trailer on Thursday morning, and it gives us a taste of what to expect from the series.
The 10-episodes first season is scheduled to premiere September 4th, and will be “set in a post Jax Teller world, where Ez Reyes, fresh out of prison, is a prospect in the Mayan Mc charter on the Cali/Mexi border.
Now Ez must carve out his new outlaw identity in a town where he once was the golden boy who had the American Dream within his grasp,” according to a press release.
Mayans Mc stars J. D. Pardo Sarah Bolger, Clayton Cardenas, Richard Cabral, Michael Irby, Raoul Trujillo, Antonio Jaramillo and Carla Baratta.

Just days before Kurt Sutter and the cast and creatives of Mayans M.C. take the stage at Comic-Con, the FX biker series hit the road hard with a new trailer this morning. Full of loyalty, guns, a new prospect in the Jd Pardo-played Ezekiel “Ez” Reyes, trust issues, some Edward James Olmos and a Spanish version of the Rolling Stones’ “Paint It Black,” the Sons of Anarchy sequel of sorts declares that once you are in, there is no out.
The next chapter is set in a post-Jax Teller world, with Ezekiel “Ez” Reyes (Pardo) fresh out of prison and a prospect in the Mayans M.C. charter on the Cali/Mexi border. Now, Ez must carve out his new identity in a town where he was once the golden boy with the American Dream in his grasp.
