From the team behind Flickering Myth comes the gothic horror film The Baby In The Basket. First look and more details below.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: 2024 has been a proper rollercoaster ride for horror fans. After a slow start, we’ve since been treated to the excellent Immaculate and The First Omen and the riotously fun Abigail and we’re not too far off from the release of Renny Harlin’s The Strangers: Chapter 1.
We’ve now got word of another horror film heading our way, hopefully sooner rather than later. The Baby In The Basket is directed by Nathan Shepka and Andy Crane from a script by Tom Jolliffe.

“The Hunger Games” star Sam Claflin has boarded George C. Siougas’ short film “The One Note Man” as an executive producer.
Narrated by Ian McKellen (“Lord of the Rings”), the Christmas-set story focuses on a bassoonist wedded to his routine, which involves playing a single note each day in the orchestra he is part of before returning home. One day, after accidentally overhearing a mind-blowing violin solo the musician finds himself caught between “staying in his comfort zone or stepping out and changing his life forever.”
The film, which has qualified for Oscar submission after winning the grand prize for best live action short at the Rhode Island International Film Festival, stars Jason Watkins (“The Crown”), Louisa Clein (“Emmerdale”), Crystal Yu (“Doctor Who”), Paul Barber (“The Full Monty”).
It does not feature any dialogue, instead giving audiences an opportunity to enjoy an original score by “Shakespeare in Love” composer Stephen Warbeck.

It’s been roughly a quarter century since the men of Sheffield, England, danced onstage going The Full Monty, and a lot has happened. In FX’s limited series, you won’t see any steelworkers stripping to “You Sexy Thing.” “No one wants to see that,” star Robert Carlyle says, laughing. Despite retaining the 1997 film’s title, the eight-episode comedic drama from original writer Simon Beaufoy shines a light on new challenges faced by the local community and its rascally inhabitants, raising awareness around education and poverty. Here’s why this chapter, full of heart, is worth a look. (Credit: Ben Blackall/FX) 1. Everyone’s back! “It was a bit like putting on a comfortable jacket,” Mark Addy says of stepping back into his role as sweet Dave alongside Carlyle’s Gaz and Lesley Sharp’s Jean. Whether they invite them or not, there are few stories where imagining what comes next is impossible. Part of the appeal of popular, lasting films and series is that they occupy a slice of a world, with the promise that something interesting might be happening elsewhere. Amidst the avalanche of brand extensions and franchise retreads and character revivals, “The Full Monty” feels like the kind of plucky independent film hit that could provide a foundation for a “where are they now” story that doesn’t feel like a cynical cash grab or marketing play. A quarter century after the original movie found success in a number of different arenas, a new FX series aims to revisit a ragtag group in the north England city of Sheffield to see what happens a generation after a sensation.
The answer, it turns out, is unclear and (at times) unconvincing. Decades after the 1997 Simon Beaufoy...

1997 film The Full Monty is remembered for two things: being an unexpectedly massive hit, and its final shot of six naked bums frozen mid-sway to Tom Jones’ “You Can Leave Your Hat On”. Over time, its story about a group of unemployed Sheffield men making themselves a bit of cash and even more notoriety by stripping on stage for one night only has been boiled down to box-office and bare bottoms. So much so that when this 26-years-later sequel was first announced, there was a lot of the same reaction: wouldn’t that lot be in their sixties by now? Who’d want to see them in a thong?
You don’t see anybody in a thong in The Full Monty TV series, which doesn’t even call back to that infamous sold-out night at the Millthorpe Working Men’s Club until episode six of eight. For want of a less troubling mental image,...

Was there anyone, truly, who left The Full Monty wondering what these lads would be up to in three decades’ time?
The 1997 film was a complete work in itself, with few plot threads left dangling and no cinematic universe necessary. Hulu’s new sequel, also titled The Full Monty, doesn’t offer an obvious justification for its own existence either. There’s no inciting incident that brings us back to Sheffield, and no motivating goal once we’re there. The most explicit homage to the movie’s famous dance number plays (amusingly) like maybe the cast joked that they wouldn’t do the routine again if they had a gun to their heads.
Yet in spite of it all, the series works more often than not. The show (created by Simon Beaufoy, who also wrote the film) makes the bet that although the stripper plot might be what most people remember about The Full Monty,...

Remember "The Full Monty," friends? The British comedy from director Peter Cattaneo and "Slumdog Millionaire" writer Simon Beaufoy earned critical acclaim across the board for its funny and charming story about six unemployed men, including four former steel workers, who decide to form a male striptease act in order to get through some tough times. The film went on to land Academy Award nominations for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, and Best Original Musical or Comedy Score, even though it only won the latter.
Now, "The Full Monty" will have a chance at winning a whole new slate of awards because it's getting a sequel TV series at FX (on Hulu) with original cast members Robert Carlyle, Mark Addy, Lesley Sharp, Hugo Speer, Paul Barber, Steve Huison, Wim Snape, and Tom Wilkinson all reprising their roles from the movie. Deep breaths, everyone – you might feel old when you read the next sentence. It’s been 25 years since the cast of The Full Monty bared all in the hit Brit comedy-drama, Peter Cattaneo’s film tackling such serious topics as suicide, depression, parental rights and unemployment with an extra dose of Sheffield-centred stripping. And while that might leave you feeling like you’ve drunk from the wrong grail in The Last Crusade, there is good news – it’s officially a long enough interval to warrant the now-obligatory legacy sequel. Yes, The Full Monty is back, with the full cast – in tow, for a Disney+ series set two and a half decades after the film. Watch the first trailer here:
The series comes from original film screenwriter Simon Beaufoy, with producer Uberto Pasolini back too, joined by incoming writer Alice Nutter. And alongside Carlyle are returning stars Mark Addy, Lesley Sharp,...

It's an old adage that comedy doesn't travel well, but some shows definitely fare better than others. As a Brit, I've met many Americans with a creepy zeal for quoting sketches from "Monty Python's Flying Circus" at me. "Red Dwarf" is hugely popular where I live in the Czech Republic. And the bawdy BBC sitcom "'Allo! 'Allo!" sold to 56 countries -- the cast was reportedly greeted "like the Beatles" during a visit to Bulgaria. I once had the pleasure of dining at a pizza restaurant in the Serbian capital of Belgrade called 'Allo! 'Allo! where all the pies were named after the characters.
But one British sitcom that doesn't seem to travel well is also one of our most enduringly popular, "Only Fools and Horses." The show follows the fortunes of the Trotter family, headed by a dodgy wheeler-dealer whose dubious get-rich-quick schemes always go disastrously wrong. It aired from...

Renegades is one of those movies that on paper has all the makings of a solid direct to DVD hit. A sizeable cast of mid-tier names that you will not only know but also have a sort of nostalgic endearment toward and that’s a great thing for you guys because they do a huge service in elevating the material and hiding any problems. A story that while not exactly breaking any new ground is just this side of madcap shenanigans so that there’s a slight air of believability to its proceedings. We are talking London gangsters, low budgets and a cast and crew that doesn’t just believe in the project but are doing...

Renegades, not to be confused with the 2017 action film of the same name, starts on a familiar enough note as retired Green Beret Major Carver getting on the wrong side of mob boss Goram. It seems Carver’s daughter Judy is a local politician and has been leading a clean up the streets campaign and making complaints about Goram’s activities. When Goram had his goons threaten her Carver got involved. And ends up beaten to death for his troubles.
When her father’s military buddies Burton, Peck, Woody, and Harris hear about it they know what needs to be done. These old soldiers are about to fight a new war on the streets of London.

When “This Is Us” star Sterling K. Brown received the 2018 Screen Actors Guild Award for Best TV Drama Actor, Best TV Comedy Actor became the only competitive SAG category that has yet to be conquered by a Black performer. Following the unsuccessful bids of Bernie Mac, Anthony Anderson and Tituss Burgess, Tyler James Williams could soon close the loop by being honored for his work on ABC’s “Abbott Elementary.” This potential victory would make him only the 10th Black artist and third Black man to ever win an individual TV SAG Award.
According to Gold Derby’s SAG Awards predictions, Williams is one of the likeliest candidates for a 2023 Best TV Comedy Actor nomination. His portrayal of straight-laced first grade teacher Gregory Eddie has earned him the fifth place spot on our list, behind Bill Hader (“Barry”), “Only Murders in the Building” pair Steve Martin and Martin Short, and...

When "The Full Monty" came out in the UK in 1997, it surprised just about everybody. There wasn't much buzz around my way, and most people seemed to think it was some kind of raunchy comedy for women. In those less enlightened times, I fielded several questions regarding my sexual orientation when I told friends I was going to see it. Some just couldn't understand why a straight guy wanted to watch a film about blokes getting their kit off.
Word-of-mouth built quickly and the screening I attended was packed. The crowd was roughly 70 women and the atmosphere was raucous, like a hen party getting revved up for the night. They were restless at first, probably because the film isn't a joke-a-minute comedy and it takes a while to get into the stripping action. Then the gang started their bumbling rehearsals and the tunes started, and the women were absolutely howling.

Disney+< has started production on a limited series follow-up to the BAFTA-winning 1997 film The Full Monty, to ultimately air Stateside on Hulu (and on Disney+ most elsewhere).
The original film was about six unemployed steel workers who form a male striptease act, where women cheer them on to go for “the full monty” (total nudity). The eight-episode Full Monty series, per Variety, will follow that original slate of characters as they navigate the post-industrial city of Sheffield and society’s crumbling healthcare, education and employment sectors and explore how communal effort can still triumph over adversity.

The cast also includes Patsy Kensit (“Lethal Weapon 2”), Billy Murray (“Rise of the Footsoldier”), Jeanine Nerissa Sothcott (“Nemesis”), Michael Paré (“Hollow Point”) Paul Barber (“The Full Monty”), Stephanie Beacham (“Dynasty”) and — in one of his last roles — Tommy ‘Tiny’ Lister (“The Fifth Element”).
The film marks the first in a Zirilli-directed slate of action-based Shogun genre films.
