- London-born socialist writer who, at various times, worked as a newspaper man, press agent, script reader at Universal studios and film critic (apparently, so acerbic in the latter capacity, that he was 'ejected from four studios' and ended up being deported from the United States during the McCarthy era). Co-founded the radical paper National Guardian.
- Brother of Bruce Belfrage, brother-in-law (1930-193?) of Joan Henley, (1952-1990) of Joyce Belfrage. Father of Sally Belfrage and 'Nicholas Belfarge'.
