- John Kim Bell is known for Divided Loyalties (1990), No Turning Back (1997) and Time Immemorial (1991).
- When he became an apprentice conductor with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra and the New York Philharmonic, he was the first Indigenous person to conduct a major symphony orchestra. He conducted the National Ballet of Canada orchestra and the Royal Philharmonic, among others.
- In 1985, he started the National Aboriginal Achievement Foundation, now known as Indspire, to provide scholarships to Indigenous students in all disciplines.
- He was born in the Kahnawake Mohawk Territory.
