Another year, another take on the seasonal story of Ebeneezer Scrooge, except that this time around it’s a woman, and she wants to speak to the manager. There’s great comedic potential in Jon Binkowski’s A Christmas Karen, but it doesn’t always succeed in holding the moral high ground, nor in delivering its more monstrous comedy with the confidence which satirising this particular trope requires.
None of that is the fault of star Michele Simms, who conjures up a nightmare of suburban entitlement with sufficient glee to make her entertaining throughout. Her forcefulness and charisma help to overcome the inherent challenges involved in centring a story on someone so unpleasant. Binkowski makes her cartoonish from the outset, when she demands that young neighbour Nia (Amina Massai) produce a permit or abandon the stall from which she is selling seasonal drinks of hot chocolate, so that later remarks,...

On the JoBlo Movies YouTube channel, we will be posting one full movie every day of the week, giving viewers the chance to watch them entirely free of charge. The Free Movie of the Day we have for you today is the slasher Scare Zone – a movie we had previously posted as a Friday Fright Nights feature a while back. You can watch it over on the YouTube channel linked above, or you can just watch it in the embed at the top of this article.
Here’s what was written about Scare Zone for Friday Fright Nights:
Every Halloween season, thousands of haunted house attractions of various kinds open up across the United States… and yet we still have very few great horror movies that are set at haunted house attractions.

Tagline: "It's Not the House That's Haunted. ReVisitant is a follow-up feature to Jon Binkowski's The Visitant (2014). His latest film brings back several of the original cast members, in a title about an evil entity. This evil spirit terrorizes each character, in a remote home. Now, the film's new poster and trailer are available here. The new poster shows a teenage daughter as objects begin to fly. Blood red paints the background as a demonic clown hovers above. Good fights evil as this graphic promises a horrifyingly good time. Terror Films will bring ReVisitant to the Kings of Horror Youtube Channel, this March 5th; the channel is linked below. As well, this distributor will bring ReVisitant to several more Digital platforms, later this year. For now, horror fans can enjoy the trailer for the film below. The Fortune Teller
Stars: Michele Simms, Patty Bender, Stephen DeWoody, Chris Dinger, Ana Eligio, Sallie Glaner | Directed by Jon Binkowski
Samantha (Michelle Simms) plays the role of “fortune teller” for all those gullible folks willing to pay for the privilege, but she is a thorough skeptic about paranormal activities and all things supernatural – she certainly doesn’t believe in ghosts. But one night alone in her house, she is about to learn that there are dark forces that don’t care whether she believes or not; they are Real. Or are they..?
Sometimes it can be incredibly frustrating being a horror fan in the UK. Besides all the cover redesigns, making horror titles supermarket-friendly; we also have to contend with all the goddamn re-titles. Case in point: The Fortune Teller. Originally titled The Visitant, the film was due to be released – if online pre-orders are to be believed – this month...

*full disclosure: an online screener of this film was provided by Fwc Pictures. Tagline: "They said their live would last forever...but beyond the grave?" Director/writer: Jon Binkowski. Cast: Michele Feren, Tracy Wiu and Sallie Glaner. The Visitant is the second film from Fwc Pictures. Fwc Pictures is based in Orlando, Florida and director Jon Binkowski is one of the company's co-owners. Their first film was the theme park set Scarezone (2009), which this film fan enjoyed. The second film from Fwc, The Visitant, is told in the style of a paranormal thriller. This film is well shot and the story acts out much like a character study, with the focus placed on the protagonist Samantha (Michele Feren). The Visitant is an indie production that is also a solid thriller. The film, essentially, deals with a haunting. Samantha is a struggling actress, who limelights as a fortune teller. One of her customers,...

Details on the Karen Black Fund: “Karen has been waging a battle for over two years with cancer. She has not talked about this publicly because she was hoping it would be cured and she could call herself a cancer survivor. Karen was diagnosed with ampullary cancer in November of 2010. After suffering through nausea, fainting and losing over thirty pounds, she was finally declared Ned – No Evidence of Disease in July. But by December 2011 a small tumor developed and another surgery was in order, which left her completely bed-ridden. Her cancer seemed conquered though. By spring 2012 she was doing a lot better...

Scare Zone is Oliver's pride and joy. Sure, it's just another strip-mall Halloween Horror House, but as always, he's put his heart and soul into it for the last two years. This year the theme is "Scare Zone III: the Psyco-Splatter Raw-topsy Slaughter Dungeon" where he's created an entire creepy Victorian maze featuring all of his best scenarios: the Living Amputation, the odiferous Toilet of Terror, the Vampire Bride (featuring Bat-Baby), and of course a final encounter with the chainsaw wielding Pumpkin Carver.

Scare Zone is a film that was shot in Orlando, Florida and has gone on to wins some awards as being the Best Picture of Florida (Cenflo). Probably shot at Disneyland, Scare Zone is almost exclusively shot within a Haunted House styled venue. The acting is sometimes overacted with many of the characters unusually giddy and some of the characters are given only shallow attention. Yet, the film is often fun and a guilty pleasure, as the writing does not require in-depth analysis only the suspension of belief for a brief ninety minutes.
The film is a follow the numbers serial killer story, with the addition of a horror fun house an added bonus. Characters get introduced to the horror house right away and the slaughter comes not much later. The non-essential characters are fitted into the usual geek, slut, hero, and more than slightly bent goth girl cardboard cut-outs,...
