Songwriter ("The Sidewalks of New York") and author, educated in New
York public schools, he was a hat salesman before becoming a
songwriter. Joining ASCAP in 1933, his chief musical collaborator was
Charles Lawlor. His other songs include "The Best in the House Is None
Too Good for Reilly", "I Did My Drinking When the Drinking Was Good",
"Pretty Jennie Slattery", "Forgive Her as Your Heart Tells You to Do"
and "McFadden's Row of Flats".
