William Brady had been a student at George Washington University in Washington, D.C. where he occasionally sang at local theaters. Spotted by a talent agent, he was brought to New York where he became popular singing at restaurants such as The Paradise, House of Morgan, and Versailles. Hal Roach Studios signed him to a long-term contract in early 1937.
