Hulu’s upcoming series Saint X is undergoing a major casting change. Victoria Pedretti (You) who had been tapped as the lead, has departed the psychological drama over creative differences. She has been replaced by Fear the Walking Dead‘s Alycia Debnam-Carey on the show, produced by ABC Signature, which is shooting in the Dominican Republic.
Debnam-Carey’s casting raises questions about her future on AMC’s Fear the Walking Dead where she has played fan favorite Alicia Clark since Season 1 as a series regular. Netflix has cast actor-dancer-model Ava Michelle to star in Tall Girl, its upcoming original high school comedy movie being directed by Nzingha Stewart. The newcomer leads a cast that includes Griffin Gluck (American Vandal), Luke Eisner (The Goldbergs) and Sabrina Carpenter (The Hate U Give) along with Steve Zahn and Angela Kinsey.
Shooting is underway in New Orleans after an open search was conducted last fall for a lead actress 5-foot-10 or taller and between the ages of 13-21. They eventually landed on Michelle, who is 6-foot-1, to make her feature film debut playing Jodi, the tallest girl in her school who has never quite felt comfortable in her own statuesque skin.
All of that changes when she falls for the handsome (and equally tall) foreign exchange student Stig (Eisner) who, of course, gets Jodi’s quirky, best, male friend Dunkleman (Gluck) and his hippie mom as a host family.

Producer Arthur Sarkissian has re-upped his production pact at MGM for another year and has lined up a string of projects to produce for the studio. On the heels of Between the Covers, a spec that he set up at MGM in mid-October, Sarkissian has been set to produce Hi Dharma, an English-language remake of a Korean comedy about a group of gangsters who take refuge in a Buddhist monastery. Sarkissian will produce with Mike Macari and Roger Garcia from a script by Don McEnery and Bob Shaw. He also will produce Defiant Ones, a remake of Stanley Kramer's 1958 dramatic film starring Tony Curtis and Sidney Poitier. The update will be changed to a buddy action comedy in the vein of Midnight Run. Varsity Blues scribe Peter Iliff will pen the redo. Sarkissian also has set up a remake of the 1961 epic war romancer El Cid, which starred Charlton Heston and Sophia Loren. Martin Campbell, whose most recent directorial outing, Beyond Borders, is in theaters, is attached to direct the remake. McEnery and Shaw are repped by Endeavor, Guy Walks Into a Bar and Barnes Morris Klein Mark Yorn & Levine. Iliff is repped by Endeavor, Industry Entertainment and attorneys Tom Hansen, Stuart Brookman and Mike Shutello. Sarkissian produced Rush Hour and Rush Hour 2.
