The coolest thing you’re going to find all year is hitting on September 15th, and it’s packed with goodies. It’s the 50th Anniversary of Lost in Space, and the complete series is going to be available on Blu-Ray, and the release gives you a lot for your money.
Not only does the release have over 7 hours of total bonus content, but it has brand new featurettes, new commentary tracks on episodes, and tons of archival footage.
This is an amazing package that is not only something for fans of the show, but is a great opportunity to expose the show to millions of new ones.
Much as the show has gone down in history as something of a goof, you might be surprised at how much future shows owe to this one, and not just by way of carving out a bit of cultural popularity for the sci-fi genre.

Stan Lee’s no stranger to cameo roles in Marvel movies, and he recently spoke about his appearances in The Amazing Spider-Man and The Avengers...
It seems that comics legend Stan Lee isn’t content with making cameo appearances in movies based on Marvel superheroes. Apparently, Lee would like to branch out into the DC movies now as well.
Appearing before a capacity crowd on Sunday at the 2011 Montreal Comic Con, Lee spoke about his cameo roles in movies based on the classic characters he co-created, such as Iron Man, X-Men, Spider-Man and Hulk.
“If you blink your eye, you might miss me”, he said, in reference to his brief on-screen appearances. Though Lee, not surprisingly, said that he did enjoy doing them, since “I get to meet all the actors.” He went on, “I just show up on the set and everybody treats me well. And I get my own trailer.

HollywoodNews.com: This comes out on DVD on November 9th. It apparently screened at the Comic Con last month, and I haven’t heard any real word of mouth either way.
It’s narrated by Ryan Reynolds, and I can only hope it’s as good as the delightful Kevin Burns documentary Look, Up in the Sky: The Amazing Story of Superman that was released in June 2009 to coincide with the summer theatrical release of Superman Returns (Kevin Spacey narrated that one).

Three or four years ago, you may recall, there was some chatter online about a new Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea feature film, based upon the classic '60s motion picture and television series created & produced by the late Irwin Allen. While there was apparently some movement towards fashioning a big screen epic, the whole thing seemed to fizzle shortly after it was announced. The runaway success of last summer's rebooted Star Trek — and the recent news about director Matthew Gratzner's forthcoming re-imagination of Gerry Anderson's UFO, not to mention the whole Hollywood trend towards remakes — got us thinking once again about those other classic mid-to-late-'60s science fiction properties—which led us back to wondering what's happening with Voyage, if anything. Might there be renewed interest in it?
As it turns out, a new Voyage feature film is still simmering. In an exclusive interview with writer/director/producer Kevin Burns,...

Before I start gushing about just how great this cartoon and, by connection, this set are, let’s establish two things. First, for every good thing I have to say about the entire set I include a single footnote: this should be available in a Blu-ray release as well, the animation would be sharper and bolder, the audio would be stunning and the entire package would have had that much more relevance considering the current trends of digital media. Second, this is so much more than just a ‘cartoon’. As is said a few times in the extra features of the series, Justice League may be the greatest superhero animated series to have ever existed. So what does that imply about this complete series set? One of the best ever?

World War II seems to have generated countless stories about heroism and bravery, stories told for the point of view of the allies and the axis, stories told about life on the homefront and life in the foxhole. As a result, it remains an enduring source of fodder for filmmakers as more and more details come to the surface. Through the 1950s and 1960s, most of the Ww II movies were highly fictionalized accounts and by the 1970s war stories were played out, fewer and further between. In the last decade, we’ve had history to sift through and we now know of Schindler’s List. Valkyrie, Bryan Singer’s entry into the pantheon, intended to tell us of the closest a plot to assassinate Hitler came to working. Presuming you were taught anything about the war in school, you might not even know there were over a dozen attempts...

When I began contributing to Dread Central, I was eager to reminisce about the never to be forgotten, Forrest J Ackerman and his astounding legacy. But who has time to look backwards when Ack keeps going “forry-ward” in the here and now? Case in point? In a matter of weeks Profiles In History will hold the greatest genre auction in history, offering prized objects from the collection of the Grand-daddy of all collectors. Gosh! Wow! (Dang)! It’s the Forrest J Ackerman Estate Auction!
Over the years, hardcore collectors have snatched up every existing morsel, crumb and Blob of memorabilia associated with our classic genre heritage. Sure, there’s no shortage of Terrorific collectibles in the form of model kits, prop-copies and photos. But just try and find anything “original” from the golden, silver or, hell - even aluminum-foil era of Imagi-movies? Try finding it for less than a Kong’s ransom!

Forrest J. Ackerman, the legendary editor/writer of Famous Monsters of Filmland and collector has passed away. He was 92. The AP reports today: Ackerman died Thursday of heart failure at his Los Angeles home, said Kevin Burns, head of Prometheus Entertainment and a trustee of Ackerman's estate. Ackerman has been credited with coining the phrase "science fiction." He had a huge impact on horror fans as the man behind Famouns Monsters of Filmland, the horror mag that predated Fangoria, but stopped publishing in 1983. I can remember seeing the first photos of films such as "Friday the 13th" and "Alien" in this magazine as a teenager. It published from 1958-1983. Its heyday was the 1960s. Forrest will be sorely missed.

The Associated Press reports that Forrest J Ackerman, whose Famous Monsters of Filmland magazine made him one of the most important figures in the realms of horror, science fiction and fantasy, died yesterday at his home in Los Angeles of heart failure, at the age of 92. He had been in ill health for some time, and over the past month had begun saying his goodbyes to his many friends in the world of the fantastic.
One of them was Fangoria editor Tony Timpone, who visited with the ailing Ackerman at his La home on November 6. “Forry was a hero and inspiration to thousands of genre filmmakers and fans,” Tony says. “Forry certainly inspired me. I grew up on Famous Monsters of Filmland, and I have many cherished memories of meeting the man over the years [see Fangoria #269’s Elegy]. The Early Years
Ackerman grew up on the early days of science fiction as the category grew in pulp magazines.
Born November 24, 1916, Ackerman is best known today as godfather to a generation of filmmakers who were raised on his Famous Monsters of Filmland magazine but he had an extensive career as an author, agent, and most of all, a fan. He also co-created Vampirella, writing for her first adventure for publisher Jim Warren.
His influence to the science fiction, fantasy, horror, and comic book fields cannot be overstated. He was the living embodiment of fandom and a tireless ambassador for close to seventy years. Hundreds of working professionals owe some debt of gratitude to Ackerman’s efforts.

Today is a day we all knew was coming but didn't want to get here. Horror legend and icon Forrest J. Ackerman is no longer with us.
Ackerman died Thursday of heart failure at his Los Angeles home, said Kevin Burns, head of Prometheus Entertainment and a trustee of Ackerman's estate.
To go over this man's career would take hours or days. Maybe even months or years. There was no one who loved our genre more, and no one more giving to the fans.
It's a true understatement when I write Uncle Forry will be missed.
Forrest James Ackerman was born in Los Angeles on Nov. 24, 1916. He had no children of his own but he will continue to have all of our hearts for generations to come.
We here at Dread Central would like to take this time to wish all of Forry's friends, family, and constituents our deepest condolences.
