In the tradition of “The Naked Gun”, the 1950’s detective crime drama series “Tightrope!" will be ‘re-imagined’ as a slapstick comedy series for The Roku Channel, fronted by Emmy winner Ty Burrell and executive produced by “Breaking Bad” star Bryan Cranston for his Moonshot Entertainment:
“…through reimagined dialogue and a new lead actor in Ty Burrell, ‘Tightrope!’ reshapes the drama of the vintage 1950’s series into a slapstick comedy, where Burrell plays a lone wolf detective following cases city to city, while he searches for his long-lost love who got away…”
“I was inspired by the ‘on-the-nose’ old drama series of the 50's,” said Cranston, “to mess with the whole thing and create a new version of a lunatic comedy, never seen before in a TV series.
Cranston’s Moonshot previously produced “Your Honor” (Showtime), “Sneaky Pete” (Amazon), “Dangerous Book for Boys” (Amazon), “Philip K. Dick's Electric Dreams” (Amazon...

Ty Burrell and Bryan Cranston are set to walk a Tightrope! for the Roku Channel.
The two Emmy winners are teaming up for a comedic reworking of a short-lived detective drama from the late 1950s (exclamation point very much included). Burrell will star in and executive produce the six-episode series, while Cranston is an executive producer.
Roku made the announcement Tuesday at its newfronts presentation to advertisers, where it also showcased upcoming programming including a travel series from Tracee Ellis Ross, culinary competition Best Bite Wins hosted by Josh Peck and a talk show from John Cena, among others.
Tightrope! aired for one season in 1959-60 on CBS. The drama starred Mike Connors as an undercover police officer who infiltrated various criminal organizations. Second in a series on broadcast network series renewals. This is a rarity — it’s still mid-April and ABC has already made decisions on all of its existing drama series.
The popular Nathan Fillion cop series The Rookie was the last to get word yesterday with a Season 7 renewal after some intense negotiations with the show’s new lead studio, Lionsgate, which acquired The Rookie producer eOne in December. It joins recently renewed Grey’s Anatomy, 9-1-1 and Will Trent, with The Good Doctor and Station 19 ending their runs.

As this slow broadcast network pilot season continues, ABC has ordered its second comedy pilot of the year: “Forgive and Forget,” a multi-camera comedy set to star Emmy-winning “Modern Family” alum Ty Burrell.
Burrell is also on board as an executive producer (through his Desert Whale Prods. shingle) on “Forgive and Forget,” while Eugene Garcia-Cross is writer/exec producer and Robin Shorr is on board as showrunner and exec producer. 20th Television is behind the project, which stars Burrell as Hank, a perennial “life of the party.” According to the logline, Hank gets an unexpected diagnosis, leading him to reconnect with his responsible adult son Ben.
ABC has also ordered the comedy pilot “Shifting Gears,” starring Tim Allen, for this season. That means both of the network’s comedy pilots are multi-camera sitcoms from 20th TV starring veteran ABC stars.

The cast of Modern Family reunited at the SAG Awards to present the “Ensemble in a Comedy Series” category, which was won by The Bear.
Julie Bowen, Ty Burrell, Ed O’Neill, Sofía Vergara, Eric Stonestreet and Jesse Tyler Ferguson bantered about what they have been up to after the series ended.
But there was a more serious purpose in the appearance for at least one cast member. Jesse Ferguson, who played Mitchell Pritchett on the sitcom, said during a Friday appearance on The Tonight Show that he talked Ty Burrell into attending the ceremony to ward off rumors among fans who thought he’d died.

Last week, the 2024 SAG Awards reunited casts from beloved TV shows and movies including Modern Family, Breaking Bad and The Devil Wears Prada.
While the Modern Family reunion was missing the children from the hit ABC sitcom, the grown-up gathering did include Ty Burrell, who famously missed a previous time the cast gathered since the show wrapped.
Speaking on Friday’s Tonight Show, Jesse Tyler Ferguson said he insisted that Burrell show up after his absence at the last reunion sparked concerns from fans that something had happened to the actor who played Phil Dunphy.
“When the SAG Awards happened, he was supposed to do something else,” Ferguson said. “I was like, ‘Ty! You can’t miss it again! People will really think you’re dead!’ It’s like, ‘We need to present you to show you that you’re not dead!’ So he made it.”

Modern Family Trivia about Sofía Vergara and Ed O’Neill ( Photo Credit – Facebook )
Modern Family is one of the most loved sitcoms. There are 11 seasons but once you start watching it, you can’t get enough of it, ever! The cast includes Ed O’Neill, Sofía Vergara, Ty Burrell, Julie Bowen, Eric Stonestreet, Jesse Tyler, Sarah Hyland, Ariel Winter, Rico Rodriguez, Nolan Gould and Aubrey Anderson-Emmons.
Modern Family is a beloved sitcom because of the comedy, the performances, and the chemistry between the characters. Sometimes, it’s overly funny; sometimes, comedy in tragedy and many overdramatic moments leave us in splits. However, the show is also high on emotions, especially love.
The series has 3 leading couples, but the most loved are Jay Pritchett and Gloria Delgado-Pritchett. The makers never leave a chance to make fun of the drastic age difference between Jay and Gloria. However, the duo are such sweethearts that...

Sofia Vergara is opening up about a Modern Family reboot and is seemingly not ready for a comeback just yet.

“Modern Family” has landed a cable run at Warner Bros. Discovery’s TBS network starting Sept. 25.
The ABC sitcom, which ran for 11 total seasons from 2009 to 2020, will air on TBS for a three-hour block on weekdays — specifically from 12:30-3:30 p.m. on weekdays. The licensing by the cable outlet marks an attempt to bolster its comedy options.
Previously, “Friends” and “Young Sheldon” have occupied the hours that “Modern Family” will run. Both shows will remain on the network. Monday saw longer daily marathons of “The Big Bang Theory” on TBS.
“Our audience continually seeks out popular comedies like ‘Friends,’ ‘The Big Bang Theory’ and ‘Modern Family,’ so now that we have all three of these iconic series on TBS, we can build an even bigger, more engaged audience,” said Julie Taylor, chief of Content Strategy & Insights, US Networks Group, Warner Bros. Discovery. “We have the best in class...

“Poker Face” fan-favorite Natasha Lyonne received a Best Comedy Actress Emmy nomination this year alongside Quinta Brunson (“Abbott Elementary”), Rachel Brosnahan (“The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel”), Christina Applegate (“Dead to Me”) and Jenna Ortega (“Wednesday”). As of this writing, Lyonne is in last place to win at Gold Derby, with less than 3% of our prognosticators backing her. However, the fact that she recently gained the favor of the Television Critics Association proves she should be taken much more seriously. Are we underestimating her at the 2023 Emmys?
Given Lyonne’s status as the very first regular acting Emmy nominee from any Peacock program and her show’s absence from all other major categories, her doubters initially had a leg to stand on, but that isn’t the case anymore. Her TCA Award victory for Individual Achievement in Comedy is an undeniably big deal and gives her many statistical advantages that should cause her competitors and naysayers concern.

The TV academy has honored voice-only performances since 1992, when six cast members from “The Simpsons” collectively became the first actors to receive Emmys for such work. The Best Voice-Over Performance category became an official non-juried one in 2009 and was then split into two categories in 2014: Best Character Voice-Over and Best Narrator. Harry Shearer (“The Simpsons”) was the former category’s first champion, having been nominated once before for the same series.
The 2023 Best Character Voice-Over ballot consists of 148 performances, which is down by 74 from last year. Seeking her third victory is Maya Rudolph, who plays Connie the Hormone Monstress on “Big Mouth.” Also in the mix are former winners Shearer, Hank Azaria (“The Simpsons”), Alex Borstein (“Family Guy”), and Seth MacFarlane (“Family Guy”).

Tige Charity found herself unemployed from an insurance department job during the late-2000s recession. Looking to find a new sense of purpose, she began thinking about a visit she’d once made to a girls group home with her husband, actor Antonio D. Charity (The Orville), and how the home’s director had told her about the rewards of mentorship. In 2009, Tige decided to create Kids in the Spotlight (Kits), a nonprofit that helps empower foster youth through filmmaking. Kits program participants write, direct, shoot, cast and act in projects alongside mentors from the film world. “You give them the arts, create a platform for them to be seen, heard, validated and celebrated,” says Tige.
Now, Kits has grown enough to have opened its first studio. Launched with an open house in April, Kits Production Studio is a 5,300-square-foot space in Van Nuys available to entertainment companies for shoots,...

The phenomenon of at least three and sometimes even four performers earning Emmy nominations from the same situation comedy series used to be pretty rate. But over the course of the past 13 years, with the increase in the number of category nominees to as many as eight, it’s grown increasingly common. In fact, it’s happened 7 times since 2010 in the supporting actor in a comedy series lineup and three times since 2017 among supporting comedy actresses. And in 2021 and 2022, thanks to “Ted Lasso,” there have been same-series threesomes on both sides.
Looking ahead to this year, the show with the best chance of placing three nominees in a supporting comedy series lineup is “Abbott Elementary” and its 1-2-3 punch of last year’s Emmy champ and current frontrunner Sheryl Lee Ralph, NAACP Image Award victor Janelle James and Lisa Ann Walter. They are right now holding down the 1, 3 and 7 spots,...

Roy Kent is here, there and every-f—ing-where, and Brett Goldstein can be all over the Emmy annals soon. The “Ted Lasso” star is gunning for a rare three-peat in Best Comedy Supporting Actor, which has not been accomplished since Jeremy Piven did it 15 years ago.
With 5/1 odds, Goldstein is currently in second place behind “Abbott Elementary’s” Tyler James Williams (9/2), who’s coming off of a Golden Globe win in January. The only time the pair had ever faced off was at last year’s Emmys, which saw Goldstein pick up his second straight statuette.
But don’t be surprised if Goldstein starts inching upward as the third season of “Ted Lasso,” which premiered March 15, rolls out. Roy has been a fan favorite from the jump and Goldstein, who overcame a four-way vote-split in 2021, already has had lots of material to work with as Roy deals with his and Keeley’s (Juno Temple) breakup.

In the nearly three decades since “Chicago Hope” costars Héctor Elizondo and Mandy Patinkin were nominated against each other for the inaugural Best TV Drama Actor SAG Award in 1995, another seven pairs and one trio of cast mates have directly faced off in the category. Including four rematches, this makes for a total of 13 costar battles that have led to two wins for Anthony Edwards and Dennis Franz.
Franz and Smits’s rematch total of three is the second highest across all six of the individual TV SAG Awards categories behind that of comedic “Frasier” pair Kelsey Grammer and David Hyde Pierce (seven). In third place on the overall male list with two each are comedy nominees Jason Alexander and Michael Richards of “Seinfeld” and Ty Burrell and Eric Stonestreet of “Modern Family.”
