Mondo is one of the more fascinating tangents to come out of ‘60s cinema; one part anthropological study, sixteen parts exploitation, these “documentaries” purported to shed light on unusual rituals and practices from around the globe. The big fun with all of them is discerning which ones actually offer up the taboo they claim and which ones are yanking the audiences’ chain. This brings us to Severin Films’ spanking new Blu-ray of two of these “shockers," Mondo Freudo and Mondo Bizarro (1966), both hilarious time capsules of ‘60s exploitative wool-pulling.
Mondo Freudo was released in April, with Bizarro quickly following in August; the brainchildren of filmmakers Bob Cresse (Love Camp 7) and Lee Frost (The Thing with Two Heads), the former had seen an advanced copy of Italy’s Mondo Cane (’62) and realized it was going to be a big hit. And he was right. The biggest difference between Italy’s output and Cresse’s however,...

If you’ve been keeping any eye on the BBFC website this news won’t come as that much of a surprise… However, Lionsgate UK have officially announced today the launch of the Vestron Collectors Series line of Blu-rays here in the UK! Yes, no longer will you have to fork over £30-40 to import the well-received Vestron Blus, instead you can get them right here in Blighty. The catch? It looks, at least from this announcement, that we won’t be getting All the Vestron titles – after all, there’s no Waxwork 2 included on the UK Blu.

It was with great sadness that this Fango contributor learned of the passing of Don Edmonds. You see, ever since I had the pleasure of meeting Don in 2003 (through another Fango writer, Paul Gaita), I have been humbled and honored to call him a friend. Having encountered Ilsa, She Wolf Of The S.S. as a 19-year-old at university in Stirling, Scotland (it was banned in the UK at that time and remains in limbo to this day), I remember being shocked silly by the movie—and eager to find out who on Earth would have made such a thing! Luckily for me, the gentleman behind Ilsa was a gentle, humble and very, very funny soul who was filled with great stories.
Don Edmonds’ legacy includes acting turns (he starred in the drive-in favorite Gidget Goes Hawaiian and the television series Flubber), but it is for the 1975 bad-taste classic Ilsa...
