JuntoBox Films wants to revolutionize the Hollywood casting process by allowing actors to submit for feature leads online. The online submissions process, which still involves a casting director, is meant to discover unrepped talent and foster a sense of community engagement around an upcoming feature, according to Philippe Caland, founder of JuntoBox Films, which is co-chaired by Forest Whitaker. “There are many more talents out there than are in Hollywood,” said Caland, a screenwriter, producer, and director. “I’ve oftentimes cast people at street corners who have never acted before, and very often I discovered some gems.” The online process, which is free and began Sept. 3, is designed to find lead male and female actors for “The Driver,” a film about a middleweight prizefighter named Eddie who will do anything to keep his money-hungry girlfriend Aspen happy. Having two unknown performers take top billing in a feature is risky, but...

Repentance is not your typical revenge film. Anthony Mackie and Mike Epps play Tommy and Ben, brothers whose lives take very different directions after a car accident nearly kills both of them. Tommy becomes a self-help guru and best-selling author, while Ben is in and out of jail and deeply in debt to some unsavory characters. To help his brother and make some fast cash, Tommy agrees to take on a private client, Angel (played by Forest Whitaker), who is having a hard time getting over the sudden death of his mother.
The film, directed by Philippe Caland, is a loose “remake” of Caland’s own film, The Guru & the Gypsy. Whitaker, who starred in Caland’s The Ripple Effect, describes it as a “re-envisioning” of that early film. “It deals with karma and people’s subconscious.” But he also believes that there is a touch of the supernatural in Repentance.

In this exclusive clip from Repentance, Forest Whitaker shows Anthony Mackie why he should never reject the kind offer of a drink. Repentance, directed by Philippe Caland, opens in theaters February 28th.
Official synopsis: Years after a drunken car crash that almost took his life, Thomas Carter (Anthony Mackie) has reinvented himself as a therapist/spiritual advisor who advocates a synthesis of world religions and positivity. He's parlayed this vocation into a successful book release that one day draws the attention of Angel Sanchez (Forest Whitaker), a profoundly troubled man fixated on the "untimely" death of his mother. When Carter takes on Sanchez as a personal client in an effort to raise funds for his indebted brother Ben (Mike Epps), things quickly take a turn for the worse. Angel needs much more than a simple life coach.

It's always an exciting thing when big name stars are attached to genre films, and the upcoming flick Repentance is full of them. Produced by and starring Academy Award winner Forest Whitaker, the thriller also stars Anthony Mackie, Mike Epps and Sanaa Lathan as four characters whose lives intersect and are forever changed as a result.
Directed by Philippe Caland, the psychological thriller centers around Mackie's Tommy Carter, a therapist and spiritual advisor who's still dealing with the trauma of an alcohol-induced car crash that nearly took his life. In an effort to raise funds to help his brother (Mike Epps), Tommy takes on a troubled man named Angel Sanchez (Whitaker) as a personal client, and soon finds that Sanchez's problems are a danger to his well-being, to say the least.

Anthony Mackie and Sanaa Lathan have joiend the cast of Vipāka. Variety reports that the thriller is being directed by Philippe Caland and also stars Forest Whitaker. Filming began yesterday in New Orleans. Mackie and Whitaker play "enemies whose conflict occurs against the voodoo backdrop of the city." At this time we do not know how the psychological aspect will play a part in the plot, but the title refers to "a Buddhist concept wherein vipāka is the direct result of a karmic act."

Let us be clear. Forest Whitaker is a frightening man. His intensity and ability to pull off some of the most insanely sweaty roles in the history of cinema is staggering! And now? He's about to get a whole lot scarier.
According to Variety Forest Whitaker (pictured menacingly on the right) will bring to life voodoo-themed Vipaka, producing and starring in the psychological thriller alongside Anthony Mackie.
Sanaa Lathan (Something New) also co-stars in the elevated genre film (there's that weird new term again floating around Hollywood, meaning it will focus more on scares than violence), which follows two adversaries who go head-to-head in a game that will test each man's belief in what they're certain is the truth.
Whitaker and Nina Yang are producing through his Significant Prods. banner, while French/Lebanese helmer Philippe Caland (Boxing Helena) is directing, having previously worked with Whitaker on the 2007 indie drama Ripple Effect.

Voodoo and horror mix well together. You've got the awesome scene in the second Children of the Corn. And there's Wes Craven's Serpant and the Rainbow, one of the my all time favorite horror films. Chucky has even made a killing wth his voodoo-themed slasher Child's Play. Even the 2005 Skeleton Key is pretty badass. Forest Whitaker is hoping to pin some needles into your wallets with the voodoo-themed Vipaka, producing and starring in the psychological thriller alongside Anthony Mackie (Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter), reports Variety.
