Michael Capiraso
- Location Management
- Producer
Michael Capiraso began his illustrious career working in commercial advertising and the film industry. After earning his MBA from Fairleigh Dickinson University in Madison, NJ, in 1991, he went on to study film at New York University from 1992-1993.
From there, he was hired as a commercial producer with Posnick & Kolker Advertising in New York City, where he worked from 1993 to 1994.
It was during this time that he first began to dabble in the film industry. Between 1993 and 1999, he worked on four films, starting with Dangerous Affairs from Writer/Director John Brenkus. He did location management for this film, as well as his next film credit, 1995's spoof Backfire!, which was written and directed by A. Dean Bell.
Michael then moved into producing roles, serving as associate producer on 1998's thriller Eye of the Storm/The Farmhouse, from writer and director Marcus Spiegel. It tells the story of a rural family that shelters a stranded young woman during a storm, a story in which secrets would emerge to threaten them all.
Next, he served as executive producer on the 1999 short Freakshow, directed by Marcus Wagner and written by Wagner and Lynton V. Harris. Starring Eric Frandsen, Sean Whalin, and Alissa Dean in her acting debut - and featuring a special guest appearance by Alice Cooper - this short film follows a teenage girl and her little brother as they sneak into a carnival sideshow and face the consequences of their actions.
During his time working on film projects, Michael Capiraso also served as producer, director, and eventually, VP of Creative Services and Broadcast for Calvin Klein (1994-2001). In his role, he not only collaborated with Calvin Klein on conceptualizing, directing, and executing global product campaigns, but he also launched the company's first interactive digital campaign, reliant on email-based, organic, user-generated content.
He went on to consult on advertising campaigns for the MLB from 2002-2003, after which he served as the VP of Marketing and executive creative director for the NFL from 2003-2007.
His efforts on behalf of the NFL included launching the NFL network, modernizing league branding elements, managing and growing $200 million in traditional and digital media assets, and leading league-wide marketing, creative, and branding activities. He moved to WPP - Prism as the CEO of North American operations from 2007-2008 before a short stint with shoe brand Cole Haan from 2008-2009, during which time he held the title of chief marketing officer.
From 2009-2012, Michael managed his own business, Michael Capiraso Consulting, a firm that specialized in advising clients on strategic growth, branding, and communications strategies.
Following that, he went on to work with New York Road Runners (NYRR), a non-profit responsible for producing the New York City Marathon. From 2012-2015, he served as the COO/EVP of Operations, Administration & Strategy, and from 2015-2020, he was the CEO & president as well as a board member.
He doubled both revenue and member participation in organization events during his time with NYRR.
In 2021, Michael Capiraso joined the JoggingBuddy platform as an advisor, board member, and shareholder. In his spare time, Michael loves to run and has completed 28 consecutive NYC marathons.
