'All My Children' aired its TV finale episode today, (and ended with a shocking cliffhanger) before the beloved soap moves online in 2012. With Susan Lucci guest-hosting, 'The View' (weekdays, syndicated on ABC) bid 'AMC' an emotional farewell.
In a montage that featured backstage footage of the cast and the behind-the-scenes players who made the show possible, 'AMC' producer Julie Hanan Carruthers set the tone. "This isn't a job for those of us who do it ... it's a life choice. It consumes your life in everything you do. So to do it, you have to love it, or you can't do it well," she said.
Series creator Agnes Nixon then read the show's credo as a toast to the entire cast: "The great and the least, for rich and for poor, in tragedy and triumph, you are 'All My Children.'"

September is proving to be a big month for Sarah Michelle Gellar.
The star of CW' thriller "Ringer," which premieres Sept.13, is also making good on her promise to return to her soap roots on "All My Children" before the series ends its 41-year ABC run at the end of the month.
TV Guide reports that Gellar's return to her daytime alma mater takes place during the Sept. 21 pre-penultimate episode -- the same one ABC plans to dedicate to late cast member Mary Fickett.
So who will Gellar be playing? After her own urging that she not touch her previous role of Kendall Hart (now played by Alicia Minshew), Gellar will appear as a delusional hospital patient convinced she's Erica Kane's (Susan Lucci) daughter. Her appearance will also include a run-in with fellow returning cast member and "CSI: Miami" star Eva La Rue.

Carol Burnett has been a long-time fan of "All My Children" - so much so that creator/writer Agnes Nixon created a role for Burnett almost 30 years ago. "Verla Grubbs" made her debut in April 1983 as the long-lost Langley Wallingford (the late Louis Edmonds) who caused trouble for her stepmother Phoebe Tyler-Wallingford (the late Ruth Warrick). Burnett appeared multiple times on the show in the early 1980s.
Burnett reprised her role in 1995 for the 25th anniversary and again in a cameo role in 2005 for the 35th anniversary of the ABC soap. Now Burnett is back as part of the last few weeks leading up to the series finale on Sept. 23.

Agnes Nixon, creator of ABC’s daytime drama All My Children, returns to the show as Agnes Eckhart, a long standing board member of Pine Valley Hospital.
Nixon, often called the “queen of the modern soap opera,” created All My Children in 1970. She was a pioneer in daytime, writing for such shows as Another World, Guiding Light, As The World Turns and Search For Tomorrow before going on to create One Life To Live, All My Children, The City and Loving. It was on these shows where Nixon brought many current and important social issues to the small screen. She was honored in 2010 with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 37th Annual Daytime Emmys.

Real life couple and fan favorites Alexa Havins (Arabella “Babe” Carey Chandler) and Justin Bruening (Jamie Martin) return to ABC’s daytime drama All My Children this September.
Havins was nominated for a Daytime Emmy in 2005 for her role as Babe Chandler, whom she played from 2003 to 2007. In 2008 Babe suffered injuries after a series of tornadoes hit Pine Valley, which ended in her death. Bruening took over the role of Jamie Martin, Tad and Brooke’s son on All My Children, in 2003. When he departed the show in 2007, his character left to work at an AIDS clinic in Africa. Both actors will return in several episodes, scheduled to begin airing this September.
All My Children has been hallmarked for its iconic brand of humor and satire, and has been prized with more than 30 Daytime Emmy Awards over the past four decades, including the three-time top honor of Outstanding Drama Series.

According to TV Guide, All My Children fans won't have to wait long to see the Internet version of the venerable soap opera. The current plan is to launch the new version on Monday, September 26th -- three days after the soap says goodbye on ABC.
Current head writer Lorraine Broderick and executive producer Julie Carruthers are expected to stay. Broderick had been working with series creator Agnes Nixon to wrap up all of the major storylines for the finale but, now that the soap is continuing online, that may not happen.
There's also a report that Susan Lucci has agreed to stay with the daytime drama -- though it's not clear for how long or in what capacity. Most of the other soap's top performers have yet to begin negotiations but it looks unlikely that all of them will sign on. Reportedly, Michael E.

Fans of All My Children and One Life to Live are used to characters being raised from the dead. So maybe it’s fitting that now, apparently, the cancelled soaps themselves are being resurrected.
Confirming a report that appeared in Thursday’s New York Post, ABC announced that AMC and Oltl will continue on the web as part of a multi-year licensing deal with upstart media firm Prospect Park.
It remains unclear what, if any, changes would occur during the transition. For instance, would both ensembles remain in tact? Would the budgets be slashed further? Rest assured, we’re digging for answers.

Josh Duhamel will make an appearance on All My Children to once again play Pine Valley's favorite con artist, Leo du Pres, who allegedly died in 2003. Leo was paired with Rebecca Budig's Greenlee in 2000 and the two characters quickly became a soap super-couple. When Leo went over a waterfall years ago trying to save Greenlee, his body was never found, leaving daytime fans hopeful the character would someday return.
Duhamel was nominated for four Daytime Emmy Awards throughout his time on "All My Children" and won an Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor in 2002 for his role as Leo. Since his exit from the show in 2003, Duhamel has often mentioned his interest to return to the daytime drama credited for his breakthrough as an actor. Along with the homecoming of many other fan favorites, Duhamel's August return promises storyline twists and turns that All My Children fans have grown to know and love.

Los Angeles, CA, United States (Celebrity News Service) - Josh Duhamel is making his return to Pine Valley for the first time in eight years. The "Transformers" star is getting back to his acting roots when he appears on an upcoming new episode of "All My Children."
Duhamel is the latest star to announce their return to the show, which so far also includes Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos, before the show officially ends its run in September.
Duhamel will once again play the supposedly dead con artist Leo du Pres, who last appeared back in 2003. His character went over a waterfall but his body was never found, leaving the possibility of a return open.
"Everyone at 'All My Children' is thrilled and excited to welcome Josh back to Pine Valley," said Julie Carruthers, executive producer of "All My Children." "The appearance of Leo is sure to be...

Soap queen Susan Lucci has a few words of encouragement for fans worried about the fate of ABC’s long-running sudser All My Children. “We’ll see, as long as we have these loyal, passionate fans in our corner,” La Lucci offered Monday on Good Morning America. “And we just received a letter from the vice president in charge of finance congratulating us on what great shape we’re in.”

If you've been following TV Land's hit show "Hot In Cleveland," then you know that Wendie Malick's character Victoria Chase is a Emmy Award-winning former soap opera star. Now, art will imitate life imitating art (or something like that) when Malick's Chase shows up on "All My Children" and Susan Lucci on "Hot In Cleveland."
On "Hot In Cleveland," Victoria Chase's industry-nemesis is Susan Lucci. But Tori manages to get a part on "All My Children," where she'll play Gertie, a housekeeper who moonlights as a bartender after she's fired by Lucci's Erica Kane. Confused yet?
Lucci will then appear on "Hot In Cleveland" along with "All My Children" co-stars Michael E. Knight and Darnell Williams. The crossover continues a storyline that's been ongoing since its first season.

ABC's flagship soap All My Children hasn't had a new opening credits sequence in ages — in fact, not since Julie Hanan Carruthers took over as executive producer in the 2002-03 season. But a brand new opener is set to debut Wednesday, December 22. Gone are the archival scrapbook photos seen in the current credits, as well as images of David Canary (Adam) and Ray MacDonnell (Joe), who have retired from the show, and James Mitchell (Palmer), who died early this year. That's not all that's missing: Carruthers decided to drop those stagey glamour shots of the AMC stars and replaced them with actual AMC clips for a fresher, more natural look. "The thought was to be more true to the characters and make their environments and lifestyles more specific in order to give the audience a window into Pine Valley," says Carruthers. TV Guide Magazine brings you this exclusive first look,...

To the surprise of many, Rebecca Budig is returning to All My Children this winter.
It ought to be interesting to see how the actress reprises the role of Greenlee Smythe, considering the character died in a motorcycle crash last year.
Debuting in January on the series, Budig spoke to TV Guide Magazine about the decision and made a humorous comparison to a certain pro quarterback. She said:
"I leave. I come back. [Laughs] I’m the Brett Favre of soaps. I think Greenlee went into a river. Or maybe a lake. I don’t know. Pine Valley is ridiculous. They even have a freakin’ ocean in that town. It’s a contract deal.

Fictional small American soap towns such as Pine Valley, Springfield, and Llanview have historically dabbled in social angst as it relates to abortion, war, and AIDS, but until recently, have avoided directly addressing homosexuality and same-sex relationships, as if shooting an unscripted pregnancy behind a laundry basket.
This has changed in the last decade or so, however, as a few American daytime dramas have introduced gay and lesbian characters, and achieved several important "firsts" in the portrayal of same-sex relationships.
"I certainly think the impact of these stories have been huge," says Michael Fairman, Advocate.com soap reporter and columnist. "These stories have hit mainstream press and have heterosexual men and women, as well as the gay audience, embracing them."

Fact meets fiction in an upcoming All My Children storyline.
The soap opera will air a 10-episode long dance marathon, headlined by Susan Lucci and Cameron Mathison, both of whom have appeared on Dancing with the Stars. Its plot basis will be to pull residents of Pine Vallery together in an effort to help Erica (Lucci) raise funds for starving kids in Africa.
According to the rules of the telethon, couples must maintain physical contact and never stop moving. Breaks will be rewarded to those that deliver major donations from viewers. Naturally, some sex and mayhem ensue.
“We’ve got characters making time for a five-minute quickie, there are fights in the ladies room, a little stalking, a possible murder. It’s fun!” said producer Julie Hanan Carruthers. Things also get a little goofy. “I promise you a chicken dance with full cast participation. You haven’t lived until you...

Eden Riegel departed All My Children (again) this week, and Tamara Braun is scheduled to take her leave next month. But many fans of the long-running ABC daytime drama checked out of this storyline a long time ago.
This might surprise those who have only followed the lesbian headlines from this storyline. It did include the first lesbian wedding on daytime television, after all, and Bianca was allowed to engage in much more on-screen physical affection with her girlfriend/wife this time than she ever has with her previous romantic partners — almost as much as the heterosexual couples this time.
But many queer and straight viewers began heading for the door when it became clear that the kisses and the wedding plans were just new ways to dress up the same old depressing and boring lesbian storylines about sperm donors, custody battles, and sexually confused lesbians. And we already get...
