On the JoBlo Movies YouTube channel, we will be posting one full movie every day of the week, giving viewers the chance to watch them entirely free of charge. Today’s Free Movie of the Day is the 2008 comedy The Deal, starring William H. Macy and Meg Ryan. You can watch it over on the YouTube channel linked above, or you can just watch it in the embed at the top of this article.
Based on a novel by Peter Lecourt, The Deal was directed by Steven Schachter, who also wrote the screenplay with Macy. The film has the following synopsis: A down-and-out film producer agrees to make his nephew’s film about 19th century English statesman Benjamin Disraeli, but can only get financing if he casts a well-known action star. Production is halted however, when the lead actor is kidnapped, so the producer hatches a scheme with a struggling...

Despite being the most well-known cryptid, Bigfoot has surprisingly few horror movies dedicated to it – and even fewer that are worth seeking out. After the infamous Patterson–Gimlin film purportedly captured footage of the creature in 1967, a spate of Bigfoot movies surfaced in the ’70s.
Although not the first, 1972’s The Legend of Boggy Creek is generally considered the best and most influential of the era. I was of that mindset before discovering 1976’s Creature from Black Lake via Synapse Films’ upcoming Blu-ray. While it’s certainly indebted to Boggy Creek for paving the way, Black Lake eschews the docudrama setup in favor of a traditional film narrative.
Shot on location in the Shreveport, LA area, the film follows University of Chicago students Pahoo and Rives on a school-funded expedition down south in an effort to prove the existence of the legendary bipedal primate.

Fresh off starring in the Netflix adaptation of the Stephen King story Mr. Harrigan’s Phone, veteran actor Donald Sutherland has now signed on to star in the coming-of-age thriller Heart Land, which Variety has heard is being described as “28 Days Later meets Lord of the Flies.” Directed by David Carson (Star Trek: Generations), Heart Land is filming in New Zealand and Quebec, Canada. It will go through the post-production process in the UK.
Matthew A. Collins (All That Glitters) wrote the screenplay for this one, crafting a story that centers on two disparate bands of children struggling to survive in the brutal landscape of a pestilent America, where adults have become infected by a mysterious plague and only children are immune. Left to their own devices, the youthful survivors must rely on primal instinct and dwindling resources to fend off the raging infected.

This post contains spoilers for the latest episode of "Star Trek: Lower Decks."
One of the plot elements in the latest episode of "Star Trek: Lower Decks," called "Trusted Sources," is that the U.S.S. Cerritos is going to be scrutinized by a visiting journalist named Victoria (Alison Becker). She is ready to interview crew members, and is always accompanied by a levitating camera. She is on the ship to write a story about a new initiative proposed by Captain Freeman that would direct Starfleet vessels to follow up on alien species that hadn't been heard from in years. The initiative is an excuse for "Lower Decks" to make sequels to any random episode of "Star Trek: The Next Generation" that they pleased under the storytelling auspices of standard operating procedure.
The episode they choose to revisit is "Symbiosis," an episode from NextGen's first season. That episode saw the U.

This post contains spoilers for the latest episode of "Star Trek: Lower Decks."
The eighth episode of "Star Trek: Lower Decks" is one of the show's "let's go hog wild" episodes. Called "Crisis Point 2: Paradoxus," the episode takes place entirely on the holodeck of the U.S.S. Cerritos with the show's four main characters exploring a rather complicated pre-programmed holographic adventure. It also serves as a sequel to the first season episode "Crisis Point", which was also a holodeck-based adventure episode. In the original, Ensign Mariner (Tawny Newsome) took over a program made by Ensign Boimler (Jack Quaid) and transformed it into an adventure "movie," largely as an excuse to play-act the destruction of the ship and the deaths of her friends and family ... and her own holographic self. In so doing, Mariner learned that she had some deep-seated issues she needed to face. The holodeck proved to...

May the wind be at our backs! Although that nautical seafaring line sounds like something Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) might have said to the crew of the USS Enterprise 1701-d, the truth is, that line comes from Admiral James T. Kirk (William Shatner) in Star Trek III: The Search For Spock. And now, as Picard season 3 comes to us at warp speed, it seems that The Next Generation crew is getting their own version of the classic series movies.
Here’s why the visual homages in the new “Star Trek Day” Picard season 3 trailer are as much about the Kirk, Spock, and Bones era, as it is about The Next Generation.

Chicago – Jerry Lewis had a long and winding life, dying last week at the age of 91. Through that life he had many show business lives – including the inevitable addictions – surviving all of the them with his signature comic style. He also was featured in over 70 films, and HollywoodChicago.com remembers three of them.

When the gawky 19 year-old Lewis met the suave singer Dean Martin in 1946, little did they know that they would become the most popular act in America for several years, and make 16 films together between 1949 through 1956. Their box office draw was white-hot, so much so that neither of them could keep up with the blur of what happened to them. “Martin & Lewis” eventually broke up at the height of their fame in 1956, during which Martin famously said, “Jer, when I look at you,...

Schlock should never be a dirty word in the world of cinema. Some of my favorite films are utterly devoid of taste and frequently, refinement. The majority of drive-in treasures lie somewhere between perspiration and inspiration, covered in flop sweat and trying desperately to entertain. This is often where you’ll find the films distributed by American International Pictures, and always where you’ll see director Bert I. Gordon’s oeuvre. Empire of the Ants (1977) is no exception.
Released by Aip in July and bringing in $2.5 million, Empire was the follow up to Gordon and producer Samuel Z. Arkoff’s success from the previous year, The Food of the Gods, another “loose” H.G. Wells adaptation, and was an even bigger hit (in B.I.G. terms, anyway—everything’s relative, folks). Naturally dismissed by critics, Empire continues the winning Gordon formula of B stars and groovy, goofy, rear projection grisliness.

Las Vegas – For Jerry Lewis, the “King of Comedy” wasn’t just a mere nickname, but an apt description for his long career and influence. He went from being the most popular entertainer of an era, to notable and studied filmmaker, to charity spokesperson and finally to comic legend. Jerry Lewis died in Las Vegas on August 20th, 2017. He was 91.

By the late 1970s, Jerry Lewis was becoming perilously close to being a has-been. After decades of celebrity – first in his successful partnership with Dean Martin, then later on his own as the star of comedies like Rock-a-Bye Baby and as the auteur behind epochal hits such as The Nutty Professor – the gifted comic filmmaker and host of the annual Labor Day Muscular Dystrophy telethon started experiencing a series of stumbles. He shelved his much-ballyhooed drama The Day the Clown Cried, about a German clown living in the Nazi concentration camps,...

Pretty Maids All In A Row
by Randall Unger
In a time where sexual promiscuity was all the rage, one of many films was released during the 1970s, Pretty Maids All in a Row. Based on Francis Pollini’s novel of the same name, the film takes place at a California high school where sex and murder seem to be popular extracurricular activities.
We are introduced to Ponce de Leon Harper (John David Carson), a timid high school student who doesn’t have much luck with the ladies. He stumbles upon a dead girl’s body in a bathroom stall...

If you were outraged by those risque photos of the cast of "Glee" in GQ, I must warn you: never ever, watch "Pretty Maids All in a Row." You know what? Don't even read this piece. If you do, your brain might explode.
Somehow, the director of "Barbarella," Roger Vadim, and the creator of "Star Trek," Gene Roddenberry, got together in the early 1970s and made one of the weirdest movies ever released by a mainstream Hollywood studio (in this case MGM). Long out of circulation, with a reputation as one of the cultiest cult movies ever, it is finally available on DVD from the Warner Archive. And it is wild.
With "Pretty Maid"'s creative pedigree, you might expect it to be science-fiction. Nope; Vadim and Roddenberry chose to collaborate on a mashup high school sex comedy and slasher film. The result is like watching someone try to make...
