Neither reps for Playboi Carti nor his openers Ken Carson and Destroy Lonely immediately responded to Rolling Stone‘s requests for comment on the changing of the tour dates.

In the closing weeks of 2023, the first four songs from Playboi Carti’s forthcoming album were delivered as promised and on time — no small feat for any artist right now, but even more impressive given Carti’s track record. The Atlanta rapper’s previous album, 2020’s Whole Lotta Red, was shrouded in years of speculation and delays that added to Carti’s mysterious lore among his rabidly online fanbase. His latest effort so far feels like a throwback to a different time in hip-hop, both in style and apparent promotional schedule.

EntertainmentAs the supporting player to Barbie’s star, Ken unwittingly becomes the locus of little girls’ expectations of and frustrations with masculinity. The ConversationAs first boyfriends go, you could do worse than Ken Carson. Introduced in 1961 by Mattel, the Ken doll was the epitome of the all-American boy next door. Clean cut, athletic and with a sharp haircut, he was the perfect counterpart to his more famous girlfriend, Barbie. Ken’s first item of clothing was a pair of red swimming trunks, indicating his sportiness and reflecting the modern American lifestyle of leisure and penchant for outdoor recreation. Created by Barbie’s inventor Ruth Handler, Ken was a boyfriend designed by women for girls. Just as Barbie was named after Handler’s daughter, so Ken was named after her son. And so the safe, boyfriend-friend dynamic of Barbie and Ken’s relationship was established. Notably designed with no genitalia, he...

If Governors Ball is back, it must be summer in New York. The annual festival returned to Queens in early June in roomy new digs: Flushing Meadows Corona Park, just down the block from its 2021-22 home at Citi Field. The sprawling, tree-lined grounds were reminiscent of Gov Ball’s years on Randall’s Island, for anyone whose memories go back as far as the 2010s, only nicer and easier to get to by public transit. With one rainstorm aside, it was a beautiful weekend made all the more welcome...

If you scrolled through TikTok this year, you’ve probably heard Destroy Lonely’s “Nostylist.” The 21-year-old Atlanta native scored a viral hit when he crooned over a mesmerizing beat, boasting about waking up and “putting that shit on,” shouting out his favorite brands to wear and reminding us all that he needs “no stylist.” When we meet at a studio in New York, he couldn’t be any happier with how he’s spent the past month in the city: shopping and rapping.

Andreas from Pussy Goes Grrr here, to talk about an impromptu musical number that doubles as a historical document. Frank Capra’s Oscar-sweeping screwball comedy It Happened One Night is naturally best remembered for the cute love story that unfolds (over the course of several nights) between stars Clark Gable and Claudette Colbert.
However, it’s also something of a postapocalyptic travelogue, since the odd couple’s odyssey by bus up the East Coast gives them a panoramic view of a nation debilitated by the Depression. They run into purse snatchers, con men, starving children, and crowds of poor families forced together by poverty. For Colbert’s spoiled heiress, it’s a shocking glimpse of how the other half lives. But the world she discovers is not all negative: the bus’s passengers comprise a makeshift community, and it’s one that loves to sing.

Celebrity Couples! What ever happened to Barbie and Ken? A funny but tragic Mattel dolls love story about the history of shallow women and their boy toys -- [Jan. 18 -- Warning: Rated PG-13 content and graphic images of Barbie and Ken intended for viewing by parents, not children] The perfect couple, the perfect pair; despite all the toys and the perfect hair there was no ring ever there. Barbie and Ken, the toy dolls made famous by Matel, had a long romance -- dating since 1961 -- but old Ken never mustered up the courage to take Barbie to the alter for a white wedding (or even for a quickie elopement in the Barbie pink convertible or Rv to a drive through wedding chapel in Las Vegas). After waiting and dreaming and even buying a wedding gown, Barbie got disgruntled with Ken for his lack of interest in being anything other than eye candy on her arm. She dumped conservative and preppy Ken for a skeezy, shifty-eyed surfer named Blaine a...
