- Román Chalbaud was born on October 10, 1931 in Mérida, Venezuela. He was a director and writer, known for Pandemonium, the Hell's Capital City (1997), El pez que fuma (1977) and El caracazo (2005). He died on September 12, 2023 in Caracas, Venezuela.
- In 1990 he was on the jury of the San Sebastián Film Festival.
- Studied for two years at the Teatro Experimental in Caracas.
- Was named President of the Asociación Nacional de Autores Cinematográficos in 1978, and was the Director General of the Fundación Cinemateca Nacional de Venezuela (National Foundation of Venezuelan Cinema) for two years.
- Studied directing under Lee Strasberg in New York.
- Was director of the National Theatre of Venezuela from 1958 to 1960.
