This author recalls reading an issue of TV Guide in 1994 about the then-upcoming TV series "Star Trek: Voyager," set to debut in January of 1995. The TV Guide noted that Robert Picardo, a Joe Dante repertory player, would play a character named Doc Zimmerman, the holographic doctor on board the U.S.S. Voyager. This name was culled from pre-production notes on the series, and the showrunner fully intended for Zimmerman to be the character's name.
The premise of the show, however, dictated that the Doctor have no name. The Doctor was an Emergency Medical Hologram, only meant to be activated in times of extreme crisis when a chief medical officer is not available. Once the crisis was over, the hologram was meant to be shut off. Thanks to the stranded state of the U.S.S. Voyager, however — it was stranded across the galaxy, 70 years from home — the Doctor was never shut off.

The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert premiered to a rapturous, midnight-screening reception at Cannes on May 15, 1994. The tart, feel-good comedy follows a trio of Sydney drag queens — Terrence Stamp, Hugo Weaving and Guy Pearce — who travel by bus (that’s Priscilla) to a gig in the Outback, finding their way into hijinks and eye-popping outfits along the way. The film became a crossover sensation and even won an Oscar for its costumes (this despite having a costume budget of approximately $5,000). Its writer-director Stephan Elliott joins THR‘s It Happened in Hollywood podcast this week to reveal all about this making of the comedy classic on the cusp of its 30th birthday. Here are five facinating takeaways from the episode:
Guy Pearce Was Desperate to Shed his Soap Opera Image
Pearce was 26 and well-known to Australian and U.K. audiences at the time as the star of Neighbors, the popular soap,...

In the three decades since Kylie Minogue’s debut, the Australian soap actress turned international pop star has released 16 studio albums and, thanks to the recent success of “Padam Padam,” racked up an impressive 35 Top 10 hits in the U.K. Her career trajectory, however, wasn’t always assured.
After her initial breakout success on both sides of the Atlantic, with a cover of Little Eva’s “The Loco-Motion,” Minogue struggled to maintain interest among U.S. audiences. By the mid-1990s, she was eager to shake off her bubblegum-pop image, collaborating with the likes of Nick Cave and Towa Tei, and taking more creative control with the experimental Impossible Princess. The album flopped, but a turn-of-the-century renaissance found the singer embracing her dance-pop roots and cementing her status as a gay icon.

Contains spoilers for Neighbours.
Last year’s announcement that Neighbours was ending prompted the return of its prodigal children. Not just the on-screen ones journeying to Ramsay Street to reunite with lost loves/burn down Lassiters/marry Paul Robinson, but also us – the Aussie soap’s lapsed viewers. We came back too, sticking one last hopeful hand into the cookie jar of nostalgia, hoping to feel… well, anything.
The only problem: Neighbours was unrecognisable. There was no Helen Daniels and Bouncer had long retired to the big farm in the sky. If you’d drifted away at some point between the third Lucy Robinson and the plane crash that turned Harold Bishop into the Erinsborough strangler, then this is for you. Here’s a handy guide to Neighbours’ current plots and characters. Never ask ‘Who’s Paige? again.

Charlene Lee and Claire Koonce want actors to succeed. At Clck casting, which they founded in 2019 after working together on various projects, they share similar work ethics and values. “Charlene and I really focus on inclusivity, authenticity and kindness,” says Koonce. “We feel there’s a lot of talent in this town. And the way that every single person is treated throughout the casting process is important to us. We want to cast authentically and inclusively and do quality work, but kindly.”
That skillset came in handy when the pair were tasked with casting “Beef,” Netflix’s heralded limited series starring Ali Wong and Steven Yeun as Amy and Danny, strangers who continue to antagonize each other after a random road rage incident.

If you’d thought that hell would have to freeze over for a Lifetime thriller to actually remain fairly unpredictable until the climax, the demons mustn’t be very pleased right now. The unthinkable has happened, and To Kill A Stepfather has not just emerged as a far better thriller than the usual trope-fests but also turned out to be more gripping than a lot of big-budget projects with promising premises and pretentious executions. I guess it would have to be a giant, unreasonable stretch to expect a Lifetime movie not to be trope-y. But even with all that in mind, To Kill A Stepfather might actually tickle your brain with suspense that seems well thought out and performances that throw a challenge in the face of some of the big-time mainstream stars. Here’s how the murder mystery went down:

Annie Potts was known in the 1990s for her role in Designing Women. Over the years, she’s appeared in several successful series. Most recently, she’s had a career resurgence on Young Sheldon as Sheldon Cooper’s sassy grandmother, Connie ‘Meemaw’ Tucker. Potts has never shied away from talking about the role, and in one interview, she revealed exactly who influenced Meemaw’s look and style. Potts said that she took inspiration from Dolly Parton’s Steel Magnolias character while figuring out her character’s style.

Finally, there was a case resembling one from the Blacklist, and it was good.
Raymond continued his amends tour with Siya in tow on The Blacklist Season 10, Episode 14. Elsewhere, the team worked on a peculiar case involving brides and disappearing husbands.
The Congressman Hudson threat took a backseat at this hour, giving other storylines a chance to develop. That was a good decision because Hudson has been all bite and no bark. It was starting to get boring.
It became clear that Raymond was on an unburdening mission on The Blacklist Season 10, Episode 13, when he sold all his valuable items at a throwaway price. The next logical step was finding people in his life who meant something, and he had amends to make with them.
There were not many left, so the list was pretty thin.

Royal fans know that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have never been shy about showing Pda. In fact, it’s rare to see them not holding each other’s hand or walking arm in arm. Well according to a body language expert, the Duchess of Sussex “needs frequent touches” with her husband and she isn’t the only royal who does.
Here’s who else relies on touching to connect and what the expert noticed the ladies both do in public.

Milf Manor, a new reality show on TLC, has raised eyebrows since its debut in January. Many viewers are divided over the show’s unusual premise, including a gross twist involving mothers and sons. In a recent interview, Milf Manor producer Daniela Neumann addressed the criticism, even revealing that she thought “milf” had a very different meaning than the one many Americans know.
‘Milf Manor’ | Rob DeCamp/TLC What is ‘Milf Manor’?
Those who have seen 30 Rock likely remember the episode about Milf Island, a fictional show where mothers and eighth-grade boys are on an island together. Well, Milf Manor is alarmingly close to that concept. The show features a cast of women in their ’40s and ’50s looking for love at a villa in La Paz, Mexico. Val Kilmer had a bit of a reputation as a difficult actor to work with for much of his career. But if the documentary "Val" taught us anything, it's that he's a real artist with a gentle soul. The image of him adorned with his late mother's jewelry, recovering from throat cancer, creating art at his Los Angeles home directly next door to his daughter's house, is an affecting and tender one that has stayed with me since I saw the 2021 doc.
These days, the actor has had to step away from the limelight due to the illness that robbed him of his voice, health, and much of his career since 2015. I’m a Celebrity viewers have been left unimpressed after Boy George secretly ate an extra banana without consulting his fellow campmates.
During Tuesday’s (22 November) episode, viewers saw the immediate aftermath of Sue Cleaver’s departure, as seen live on Monday’s edition.
When the Coronation Street actor exited the camp, she left behind a banana.
After spotting the extra piece of fruit, Boy George decided to take it for himself to eat in private.
“I had a banana last night and then obviously Sue left this morning and there was an extra one, so I took it and I ate it and I hid the skin in my pocket so I wouldn’t get caught,” the Culture Club singer admitted to camera, before laughing.
Later, Jill Scott and Owen Warner noticed a discrepancy in the banana count and questioned Boy George.

Twenty years in, you know what you’re getting with I’m a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here!. Soap actors will nibble on fried genitals. Spiders will crawl across singers’ foreheads. Black women will be voted out first. In 2019, Adele Roberts was the inaugural camper to be given her marching orders. Eighties pop queen Sinitta placed 11th in 2011. Even This Morning staple and universally adored national treasure Alison Hammond barely squeaked into 10th place in the 2010 series.
After two weeks of the ITV series’ 22nd season, the tradition holds steady: newsreader Charlene White and TV presenter Scarlette Douglas have been the first and second contestants to be eliminated from the competition. It’s not as if other candidates couldn’t have filled those unenviable boots. Matt Hancock’s inclusion in this year’s camp roster has dominated many viewer discussions, while the outspoken singer Boy George has proved a polarising presence.

“I think about you less than I think about climate change,” a colleague tells Harper Stern in the new season of Industry, HBO’s razor-sharp, London-set series about the combative, cocaine-fuelled arena of international banking. The insult reveals as much about the show’s milieu as it does Harper’s ostracised junior banker, who’s been using Covid as an excuse not to show her face on the sales floor.
In reality, Harper (Myha’la Herrold), who works at fictional investment firm Pierpoint, is avoiding the fallout from the ice-cold double-crossing she executed at the end of season one, which saw a progressive female mentor fired in favour of Eric, a company man who thrives on the abusive workplace culture. By comparison, Harper feels performatively ruthless, and Herrold is assiduous in letting the college-dropout’s humanity accidentally reveal itself. Sometimes she even cries.

Princess Charlene of Monaco paid her final respects to Queen Elizabeth II. The former Olympian entered Westminster Abbey in London Sept. 19 arm-in-arm with her husband Albert II, Prince of Monaco to celebrate the life of Her Majesty as she is laid to rest. (You can watch the funeral here.) Charlene, 44, wore a traditional black ankle-length dress with a diamond brooch, a black hat and a veil, while Albert, 64, donned his formal state uniform. She completed the look with black heels and black tights. Her brooch was comprised of red and diamond gems, seemingly a subtle tribute to Monaco's flag. Following the Queen's Sept. 8 death, Charlene paid...

It ends the only way it can end, with two of the toughest men in Los Angeles holding hands as one of them bleeds out on the periphery of Lax’s tarmac. For the greater part of two and a half hours, we’ve watched Neil McCauley — mastermind of heists and bank robberies — and Vincent Hanna — lieutenant in the LAPD’s Major Crimes Unit — circle one another, chase each other, and calmly converse over a cup of coffee. Now, however, these apex predators of the urban jungle have reached their endgame,...

It’s not uncommon to find many animated series in U.S pop culture that focuses on Greek and Roman mythology, like “Blood of Zeus” or “Hercules.” However, there are a few animated series whose creators choose to tell distinct stories like “DC’s Titans,” “Teen Titans Go,” “Gravity Falls,” and of course “Victor and Valentino.”
According to show creator Diego Molano, “Victor and Valentino” is a supernatural adventure comedy that seeks to put a spotlight on the mythologies of the Aztec, Olmec, and Mayan people — Latin-Americans generally.
The show is currently on its third season. In this article, we’ll tell you all that there is to know about the latest season of “Victor and Valentino” and a little about its characters.
What’s “Victor and Valentino” About?
“Victor and Valentino” is an animated television series that made its debut on March 30, 2019 — “Folk Art Foes.” The series follows the adventure of two half-brothers,...

If you’d do it for Eurovision, then my god man, do it for Ramsay Street. On Friday the 29th of July (Thursday the 28th in Australia), open your home and your heart and pour one out for the Erinsborough crew. Because these people deserve a send-off. For 37 years, they’ve been trapped in a washing machine cycle set to stress (intense soil). Kidnappings, drownings, deadly rivalries, adultery, murder, Karl Kennedy… They’ve each had to stand in line and take their turn burning down the Lassiters Complex, getting amnesia and marrying Paul Robinson, and why?
For us, that’s why, to beam some bright Australian sunshine into our grey, grey lives. Throwing them a farewell party is the least we can do in return. But how to go about it? What snacks to prepare, or decorations to rustle up? What’s the playlist and the dress code? Don’t...

Lionsgate announced this afternoon that their Dirty Dancing sequel starring Jennifer Grey will hit theaters on Feb. 9, 2024.
Deadline first reported about the project, which Jonathan Levine is directing off a screenplay by Elizabeth Chomko, Jonathan Levine, Mikki Daughtry, Tobias Iaconis. In part 2, Baby (Grey) takes us back to Kellerman’s Resort for a story of summer, young romance, and dancing. That weekend is the pre-Valentine’s Day weekend and right now Universal has an untitled animation film on the calendar.
In addition, Lionsgate’s feature take of Judy Blume’s 1970 novel Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret will now open April 28, 2023 instead of Sept. 16 this year. Universal recently moved DreamWorks’ Distant off that date to Jan. 27, 2023. While I hear Lionsgate likes the new pre-summer date for the Judy Blume movie, I’m wondering now if New Line’s feature take of Stephen King’s Salem’s Lot in the previous Sept.

Death certainly becomes Hulu thanks to Only Murders in the Building, a 10-episode comic mystery starring Steve Martin, Martin Short and Selena Gomez as three inhabitants of a New York City apartment complex who team up to investigate the death of a neighbor. Co-created by Martin and John Hoffman, the star-filled drama returns June 28 on the streamer, and now Gomez’s acerbic Mabel has become a murder suspect. Here, Gomez joins Martin and Short (his Oliver is a bankrupt Broadway producer) to riff about the dramedy’s successful first season, those intimate moments on screen, and what it’s like to work with each other. (Hint: it’s a constant knee slapper.)
Deadline: Your show is so important to Hulu, that you made an appearance at the Disney Upfront presentation in New York last month. How did that go?

Is that a busker? Nope! It's Miley Cyrus! And Steven Tyler. And U2. And you can keep your money. Those are just a few stars who have given impromptu performances at subway stations and even on the street. See, commuting doesn't have to suck! Cyrus and former guitar comic Jimmy Fallon recently went incognito as subway buskers at Rockefeller Center for a Tonight Show gag. Wearing cowboy hats and wigs, they sang Dolly Parton's 1973 classic "Jolene," one of Cyrus' favorite songs, under the names "Charlene" and "Bart." This is my first time at the subway station," the singer said. "This is exciting s--t for...

Wednesday's commute wasn't so bad for a few lucky New Yorkers. That's because Miley Cyrus and Jimmy Fallon decided to go undercover as subway singers at Rockefeller Center. "No one knows that this is going to happen," the Tonight Show host told viewers before he began busking with Cyrus. "No one knows that it's Miley Cyrus. Let's do this." "All right!" Cyrus said. "Let's party!" Wearing cowboy hats and wigs, Cyrus and Fallon then sang Dolly Parton's 1973 classic "Jolene." To make it fun, they created new identities, with Cyrus playing Charlene and Fallon playing Bart. Even though she hid behind sunglasses, the singer's husky...
