- Played the role of Cassio in the 1945 revival of the Paul Robeson "Othello". This production also starred Clanton's future "Cyrano de Bergerac" co-star, José Ferrer. Ferrer portrayed Iago in "Othello" and would later play the title role of "Cyrano" to great success.

Lehman Engel was composer. Samuel Leve was set designer. Lemuel Ayers was costume designer. Margaret Webster was director. Maurice Evans was also producer.
