Repatriate Games: Sollima & Sheridan Opt for Clear & Present Danger with Tepid Clancy Adaptation
It’s so Clancy, you already know. Although we’ve seen resurgent preoccupations in Tom Clancy’s famed Jack Ryan properties over the past decade, a mantel taken up by his estate wherein other writers are using the Clancy name since his death in 2013, Taylor Sheridan and Will Staples tackle the long hibernating Tom Clancy’s Without Remorse, based on the 1993 novel focusing on spinoff character John Clark nee Kelly (who was portrayed by Willem Dafoe that very next year in 1994’s Clear and Present Danger and later by Live Schreiber in 2002’s The Sum of All Fears).…...

I looked for him, but he was gone. I checked the boozy dives and the greasy spoons and the street corners where the not-nice girls hang out.

Tall guy, fedora, trench coat. You must’ve seen him. Usually smoking. He was always hanging around, poking his nose where it didn’t belong and usually getting it punched.
A real wisenheimer, too, always cracking wise.

If you don’t miss that kind of patois, you’re either too young to remember it, or you’ve got a tin ear. God knows, I miss it.

TNT has already established quite the profitable brand for itself as home to the kinds of square-jawed, retro dramas that the broadcast networks stopped making a long time ago. So it stands to reason that the channel would eventually try getting into another business the networks have largely abandoned: the made-for-tv-movie. And if they can be the kinds of movies that fit comfortably alongside "The Closer" and "Rizzoli & Isles," so much the better. Over the next three weeks, TNT will be airing a half-dozen mystery movies, all based on works by best-selling authors like Sandra Brown and Mary Higgins Clark,...

Grimm's ratings dropped a little this week, but the show still won the 18-49 demo in its timeslot, finishing ahead of CSI: NY, Fringe and Supernatural, and rising by a full frakking ratings point (1.8) after Chuck (0.8). Wake up, Chuck.
Hitfix visited the set in Portland recently and posted a lengthy report. Here is a snippet:
Sasha Roiz on how his character will develop later in the series: "I’m not a Grimm descendent, but I'm a descendent of a long line that dates back just as Grimm does and we have a bit of a history and a past, so my line is a royal line and that will slowly unfold throughout the series."Collider has a longer interview with Sasha and Reggie Lee (more at the link):

If you're feeling a little blue now that the summer TV season is winding down, don't fret, at least if you're a TNT fan. Why? The network has announced return dates for three of its current summer shows, which will allow them to finish out their seasons, and a date for arguably their most critically acclaimed show early next year.
Leverage will be returning on Sunday, November 27th for the first of 8 additional episodes in season four. The following night, The Closer and Rizzoli & Isles will both be returning (9:00 and 10:00, respectively) for 5 episode stints. All three will be coming back summer 2012 for their next full seasons, with The Closer's summer 2012 being its swan song.
Southland may not be joining the party of short episode stints in late fall/early winter, but that's because its fourth season will be premiering on Tuesday, January 17th, 2012 (10:00) for another 10 episode installment.

It looks like Andy Richter will be stepping from behind the podium on Conan to another podium (I am guessing) for a new game show on TBS entitled Pyramid. The show is reportedly a modern-day take on the iconic game show that began asThe $10,000 Pyramid.
I really enjoye watching Men of A Certain Age, and highly recommend it. The new shows don't really catch my interest yet, aside from Pyramid. Check out the full lineup below and share your thoughts on what shows you are most interested in seeing.

Following months of speculation, TNT formally announced on Wednesday morning its plan to follow The Closer‘s upcoming seventh and final season with a spin-off series titled Major Crimes. Touted by the cabler as “television’s next great crime drama,” Major Crimes will star Mary McDonnell (Battlestar Galactica), reprising her recurring Closer role of Captain Raydor.
The Closer‘s final cycle will consist of 21 total episodes — 15 airing this year plus six for summer 2012 — and feed directly into the 10-episode freshman season of Major Crimes, which like its predecessor will be set in the Los Angeles Police Department. The Closer creator...

Paul Allen co-founded Microsoft with Bill Gates, but quit the company after only eight years. He walked away with enough stock to become a billionaire, but now he's claiming Gates swindled him out of his due. Dan Lyons on what Allen has done with his barely-earned fortune, and how he became a sulky, bitter man.
If there is anyone in the world who needs to be quiet, it's Paul Allen. Allen was a co-founder of Microsoft, but you've probably never heard of him, and for good reason. He quit the company in 1983, long before Microsoft became a powerhouse, and he really had very little to do with the company's success. Nevertheless, he owned enough stock that today he is worth $13 billion.

HollywoodNews.com: Adrian Grenier is happy with all the positive reviews so far for the new season of his “Entourage,” which has been widely applauded as back in top form after one of its lesser seasons. As for reports that the show opened with a 25 per cent ratings drop from last year, well, they don’t even seem to be a blip on his radar.
“I don’t really think about it. You know, the new media and new technology has changed everything, including how people end up coming to watch a show,” he points out. “I know a lot of guys who tiVo it. People wait to for it to come out in a format they can watch. This show in particular is a very communal show – groups of 20 or 30 people get together and watch it. So whatever ratings you mention, they’re going to be inaccurate.

I have a great best friend and she is a wonderful mother to three grown sons in their twenties who choose to live with her. Choose to!
Sue Carswell: My friend is Victoria Gotti who just wrote a memoir called, This Family of Mine: What It Was Like Growing Up Gotti. I've known "Vic" since 1995, when I was an editor at Pocket Books back when they refused to publish her first novel (ironically, fast-forward 14 years, they are her current publishers). It has always been interesting to be a close confidant to Victoria Gotti; sometimes I fill in mob terms that I am her capo, or her Sammy the Bull, as he was to her father, John Gotti -- but without all that backstabbing!
Wherever we go in public, perhaps because of her distinguished looks and that familiar chin with the dimple she shares with her father, people are amazed, or dumbfounded,...

Book publisher Simon & Schuster will offer 5,000 of its titles for sale digitally via document-sharing site Scribd.com, opening a fresh chapter in Amazon's epic struggle to dominate the e-book market with its Kindle e-reader. Best-selling Simon & Schuster editions from scribes like Dan Brown, Steven King, and Mary Higgins Clark will sell on Scribd's site, while thousands of other titles will be searchable in Scribd's database, from which users can sample 10% of those books' content and click through to purchase print editions.
The Scribd model is what Amazon must have seen coming (and feared): while Amazon sets the price of books it sells and restricts the file readability to its own Kindle e-reader, Scribd takes only 20% of whatever price the publisher chooses, granting authors and publishing houses much more leeway. Using anticopying software from Adobe, Simon & Schuster's books are formatted to read on most e-readers (but not the Kindle) and some cell phones.

PARIS -- It was a very British year for French detective thriller fest, the Festival du Film Policier de Cognac, with Donal MacIntyre's "A Very British Gangster" taking the top prize for best film Sunday night.
The festival jury was headed by veteran filmmaker Claude Lelouch, whose "Crossed Tracks" received a long standing ovation after screening out of competition Saturday.
The jury, which also included actresses Lea Drucker, Julie Gayet, Audrey Marnay and Jocelyn Quivrin, actors Bruno Wolkowitch and Pierre Lorit and singer Julien Clerc, awarded their jury prize to two Australian entries: Ray Lawrence's "Jindabyne" and Joe Carnahan's "Smokin' Aces".
"Aces" also took home the international critics prize as the five-day public event wrapped. The audience award went to Bruce Evans' "Mr. Brooks" from the U.S., while the New Blood Jury awarded its top prize to Spanish first film "Night of the Sunflowers" from George Sanchez-Cabezudo.
The fest opened Wednesday with Johnnie To's "Exiled" and featured homage screenings of To's films, movies based on Mary Higgins Clark novels, a special series dedicated to the French thriller genre and a "Prison Break" marathon.
