- Maurice Clavel was born on November 10, 1920 in Frontignan, Hérault, France. He was a writer and director, known for Mina de Vanghel (1953), The Swashbuckler (1971) and Les crimes de l'amour (1953). He was married to Elia Loyer, Sylvia Monfort and Nina Peinado. He died on April 23, 1979 in Asquin, Yonne, France.

- Résistant in the Chartres region during WWII, he became known as a journalist while being also a philosophy professor and author. His polemical actions can be shown in his famous « Messieurs les censeurs, bonsoir ! » on French TV in December 1971. He was one of the founders of Libération newspaper. He won the Médicis prize for one of his novels.
