The made-for-tv movie was a programming staple for the broadcast networks in the 1970s and 1980s. While it fell out of favor in the 1990s and was even dropped as an Emmy Awards category for three years beginning in 2011, it has been on an upswing as of late. This year, 34 telefilms are in contention for the five nominations that will be revealed on July 12.
All 22,000 plus voting members of the TV academy have until June 25 to cast their ballots for their favorite TV movies. In the past, voters were limited in the number of telefilms that they could put forth. Last year, that cap (which was usually 10 per category) was lifted. And, as opposed to the Oscars, voters for the Emmys do not rank their choices and nominees are determined by a simple tally.

Remember last season on The X-Files, when Mulder took out his frustrations by destroying his iconic “I Want to Believe” poster? As a longtime X-Phile, what I’m about to argue feels like a betrayal of equal magnitude, but here goes:
If Fox’s long-running sci-fi drama is to continue, it’s time for series creator Chris Carter to take a giant step back from the show.
I say this not in reaction to the polarizing twist — Cigarette Smoking Man, and not Mulder, was the father of Scully’s son! — that Carter wrote into the Season 11 premiere and doubled down on in the finale.

X-Files Recap is a weekly column by Keith Uhlich covering Chris Carter's 10-episode continuation of the X-Files television series. This one’s a keeper. The latest X-Files episode—titled “Rm9sbG93ZXJz” (Base64 code for “Followers”), directed by series executive producer Glen Morgan, and co-written by Shannon Hamblin and Morgan’s wife Kristen Cloke—begins with a story surrounding the story. An unseen narrator tells us that an artificially intelligent Talkbot was released on Twitter in 2016. Meant to mimic the half-formed mind and naïve locutions of a teenage girl, it quickly adapted its replies to all responses and retweets, thinking (or perhaps “thinking”) more and more for itself. The problem was that the bot mirrored the worst of us rather than the best of us, promoting half-assed conspiracy theories and spouting racist rhetoric, among many bad virtual behaviors. Its knowledge became, like so many of those who live the majority of their lives online,...

During its original run, The X-Files was ahead of its time in its depiction of technology. Car Phones became cell phones, advanced computer forensics and virtual reality evolved, and The Lone Gunmen were doing Mr. Robot long before it was a twinkle in Sam Esmail’s eye. There were certainly some episodes that played with futurist concepts–Kill Switch and sentient AI come to mind–and alien technology was typically at the forefront of the mythology episodes, but The X-Files often kept its tech grounded in the time period. Psycho escapes from a mental hospital heading to his childhood home, now a sorority house, where he murdered his family years ago to continue with the murdering spree he started back then.
Yet another unnecessary remake that suffers in comparison to the original. The original which was full of ambiguity provided the framework necessary to allow viewers to build a terrifying scenario in their mind and to debate over everything that went on within the context of the film and how it all played out. The film simply didn't just scare audiences. It got inside their head. It effected their psyche while watching the film. It provided a level of terror and panic that almost remains unmatched to this day. So when this remake...

There’s a reason they’re called cult followings—and now the ultra-devoted fan base that is obsessed with Millennium is gaining momentum on a campaign to bring the Chris Carter supernatural show to the big screen. Millennium, which aired for three seasons on Fox from 1996-1999, centered on Frank Black (genre fave Lance Henriksen), an FBI profiler with the ability to see the world through the eyes of murderers, and has arguably influenced many a big-screen thriller since.
Mark Ducker, a staff member at www.tiwwa.info, the largest Millenium on-line community, tells Fango, “While we are very much in the early stages of our campaign, we’re already receiving many accolades. Our campaign was made front-page news on [co-executive producer and writer] Frank Spotnitz’s blog, and we have received messages of support and encouragement from Lance Henriksen and [recurring actress] Kristen Cloke.
